Travel, back and forth, to the myth. Cinema´s contribution to the formation of the tourist iconography of Mallorca

Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, is a well-known summer holidays destination; an ideal place to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea. That tourist gaze reflected on postcards results from advertising campaigns, where cinema played an important role with documentaries and fiction films. The origins of that iconography started in the decades of the 1920’s and 1930’s, reflecting the so-called myth of the “island of calm”. On the other hand, the films of the 1950’s and 1960’s created new stereotypes related to the mass tourism boom. Busy beaches and the white bodies of tourists replaced white sandy beaches, mountains and landscapes shown up in the movies of the early decades of the 20th century. Besides, hotels and nightclubs also replaced monuments, rural landscapes and folk exhibitions. These tourist images mirror the social and spatial transformations of Mallorca, under standardization processes like other seaside mass tourist destinations. The identity was rebuilt on the foundations of "modernity". Although "balearization" has not ceased, nowadays filmmaking about Mallorca is advertising again a stereotype close to that one of the 1920s and 1930s, glorifying the myth of the "island of calm". This singular identity makes the island more profitable for capital that searches socio-spatial differentiation in post-fordist times.

Model for integrates community tourism in Ecuador, case study Pastaza

The tourism industry globally has grown steadily in recent decades, showing a progressive interest oriented toward rural areas due to characteristics of tranquility, nature, biodiversity, traditions and culture. Therefore, such aspects should be preserved and can be leveraged through adequate strategic orientation. Within the framework of global tourism trends community tourism is among the options that arise in the tourism market, and is one that is more likely to grow in the future. In the case of Ecuador, community tourism has become more dynamic over the years since many of the natural reserves in the country are in the hands of indigenous communities. Sustainable tourism in this sense is concerned with the maintenance of ethnic, cultural and biological diversity of the country, and current projects and regulatory laws support its development. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present a strategy for the integrated management of community tourism following the principles of cooperation and collaboration between stakeholders, this study focuses on the Amazon region of Ecuador, specifically the province of Pastaza, in respect to how community tourism contributes to local development

Turismo rural y paisaje en zonas de montaña. Propuesta metodológica para identificar sus relaciones en las Sierras Meridionales de la Provincia de Albacete

Las zonas de montaña cuentan con especificidades geográficas y socioeconómicas. En ellas, a partir del patrimonio territorial natural y cultural, se ha producido un considerable impulso del turismo rural, que ha centrado el interés en la valoración de la singularidad y variedad de los paisajes. En este caso se presta atención a las sierras meridionales de la provincia de Albacete. El trabajo se apoya en una metodología que combina el uso de encuestas de preferencias de turistas y técnicas cartográficas a partir de algunas variables del sistema turístico en el medio rural. El trabajo se inserta dentro de los paradigmas del desarrollo local y el desarrollo sostenible, aplicado a los espacios rurales y a las zonas de montaña media del sureste de Castilla-La Mancha. La hipótesis se centra en la consideración del paisaje como elemento medular del turismo rural.

El uso de los yacimientos arqueológicos musealizados. Contextualización y caracterización de sus visitas en el ámbito de la Costa Brava

A principios del siglo XX el yacimiento arqueológico de Empúries abrió sus puertas a las visitas. Desde aquellos momentos hasta nuestros días numerosos yacimientos de la zona están preparados para ser visitados. Estas actuaciones, en muchas ocasiones, se encuentran relacionadas con su uso como elementos de atracción turística. En este trabajo se analizan las características del uso de estos yacimientos por parte de sus visitantes y se hace un especial hincapié en el interés de situar estas visitas en el contexto más general de las estancias turísticas o las salidas excursionistas.
