In this paper, two new dual-path based area efficient loop filtercircuits are proposed for Charge Pump Phase Locked Loop (CPPLL). The proposed circuits were designed in 0.25 CSM analog process with 1.8V supply. The proposed circuits achievedup to 85% savings in capacitor area. Simulations showed goodmatch of the new circuits with the conventional circuit. Theproposed circuits are particularly useful in applications thatdemand low die area.

The presence of an inert immiscible organic phase in gasliquid dispersions in stirred vessels influences the interfacial area in a more complex fashion than hitherto reported. As the organic phase fraction is increased, the interfacial area expressed on the basis of a unit volume of dispersion or aqueous phase, first increases, passes through a maximum and then decreases. This trend is observed irrespective of whether the area is determined by chemical means or by physical method. It is found that for low values of inert phase fraction, the average bubble size decreases whereas the gas holdup increases, resulting in increased interfacial area. The lower average bubble size is found to be due to partial prevention of coalescence as the bubbles size generated in the impeller region actually increases with the organic phase fraction. The actual values of interfacial areas depend on the nature of the organic phase. It is also found that the organic phase provides a parallel path for mass transfer to occur, when the solubility of gas in it is high.

The operation of thyristor-controlled static VAR compensators (SVCs) at various conduction angles can be used advantageously to meet the unablanced reactive power demands in a system. However, such operation introduces harmonic currents into the AC system. This paper presents an algorithm to evaluate an optimum combination of the phase-wise reactive power generations from SVC and balanced reactive power supply from the AC system, based on the defined performance indices, namely, the telephone influence factor (TIF), the total harmonic current factor (IT) and the distortion factor (D). Results of the studies conducted on a typical distribution system are presented and discussed.

The authors examine the critical divergence of the low-frequency conductivity of the noninteracting Fermi glass and interacting electron glass models of the insulating phase of a disordered system as the metallic phase is approached. Results for the two are found to be rather different, which can be tested experimentally. In particular, for the electron glass, there exists a nonvanishing contribution to the dielectric constants from the low-frequency (hopping) conductivity even at low temperatures, which scales with the high-frequency (optical) contribution, and diverges with the same exponent at the insulator-metal transition.

We have used phase field simulations to study the effect of misfit and interfacial curvature on diffusion-controlled growth of an isolated precipitate in a supersaturated matrix. Treating our simulations as computer experiments, we compare our simulation results with those based on the Zener–Frank and Laraia–Johnson–Voorhees theories for the growth of non-misfitting and misfitting precipitates, respectively. The agreement between simulations and the Zener–Frank theory is very good in one-dimensional systems. In two-dimensional systems with interfacial curvature (with and without misfit), we find good agreement between theory and simulations, but only at large supersaturations, where we find that the Gibbs–Thomson effect is less completely realized. At small supersaturations, the convergence of instantaneous growth coefficient in simulations towards its theoretical value could not be tracked to completion, because the diffusional field reached the system boundary. Also at small supersaturations, the elevation in precipitate composition matches well with the theoretically predicted Gibbs–Thomson effect in both misfitting and non-misfitting systems.

A recent theoretical model developed by Imparato et al. Phys of the experimentally measured heat and work effects produced by the thermal fluctuations of single micron-sized polystyrene beads in stationary and moving optical traps has proved to be quite successful in rationalizing the observed experimental data. The model, based on the overdamped Brownian dynamics of a particle in a harmonic potential that moves at a constant speed under a time-dependent force, is used to obtain an approximate expression for the distribution of the heat dissipated by the particle at long times. In this paper, we generalize the above model to consider particle dynamics in the presence of colored noise, without passing to the overdamped limit, as a way of modeling experimental situations in which the fluctuations of the medium exhibit long-lived temporal correlations, of the kind characteristic of polymeric solutions, for instance, or of similar viscoelastic fluids. Although we have not been able to find an expression for the heat distribution itself, we do obtain exact expressions for its mean and variance, both for the static and for the moving trap cases. These moments are valid for arbitrary times and they also hold in the inertial regime, but they reduce exactly to the results of Imparato et al. in appropriate limits. Detailed ESR investigations of Mn2+ substituting for Ca2+ in Ca2Sr(C2H5COO)6, (DSP) and Ca2Pb(C2H5COO)6, (DLP) and Ca2Ba(C2H5COO)6, (DBP), in single crystals and powders, over the temperature range from 300°C to -180°C have been carried out to study the successive phase transitions in these compounds. Spectra have been analyzed in terms of axial spin Hamiltonians and the temperature dependences of the parameters studied. Across the I-II transition, new physically and chemically inequivalent sites appear indicating the disappearance of the diad axes on which the propionate groups are located, bringing out the connection between the motional states of the propionate groups and the occurrence of ferroelectricity. The II-III transition also causes chemically inequivalent sites to develop, indicating that the transitions may not be isomorphous as believed previously. Similarities and dissimilarities of the ESR spectra of DLP, DSP and DBP are discussed in relation to the phase transitions.

A study of the phase transitions in (NH4)2SO4 and (NH4)2SO4---K2SO4 mixed crystals by EPR of the CrO3- ion is reported. The results indicate a bilinear coupling of the order parameter with spontaneous polarization and a crossover from a discontinuous to a continuous nature of the phase transition in mixed crystals.

The seizure resistance of cast graphite-aluminium composite alloys containing graphite particles of various sizes was studied using a Hohman wear tester. If the graphite content is more than 2% these alloys can be selfmated without seizure under conditions of boundary lubrication. The size and shape of the graphite particles had no significant effect on seizure resistance. Owing to the extensive deformation and fragmentation of graphite, the low yield strength of the aluminium matrix and the low flow stress of the graphite particles, a continuous layer of graphite is formed on the mating surfaces even after a short running-in period. This layer persisted even after extensive wear deformation.

Detailed ESR investigations of Mn2+ substituting for Ca2+ in Ca2Sr(C2H5COO)6 (DSP), Ca2Pb(C2H5COO)6 (DLP) and Ca2Ba(C2H5COO)6 (DBP), in single crystals and powders, over the temperature range from 200°C to -180°C have been carried out to study the successive phase transitions in these compounds. (DSP: [Tetragonal] ← 8.5°C → [tetragonal, ferroelectric] [tetragonal] ← -169°C → [monoclinic, ferroelectric]; DLP : [tetragonal] ← 60°C → [tetragonal, ferroelectric] ← -71.5°C → [monoclinic, ferroelectric]; [Cubic] ← -6°C → [orthorhombic] ← -75°C → [?]). Spectra have been analysed in terms of axial spin Hamiltonians and the temperature dependences of the parameters studied. In DSP and DLP across the I ↔ II transition, new physically and chemically inequivalent sites appear indicating the disappearance of the diad axes on which the propionate groups are located, bringing out the connection between the motional states of the propionate groups and the occurence of ferroelectricity. The II ↔ III transition also causes chemically inequivalent sites to develop, indicating that the transitions may not be isomorphous as believed previously. In DBP, the -6°C transition leads to (i) a doubling of both physically and chemically inequivalent sites (ii) a small (150 G at -6°C to 170 G at -8°C), but abrupt change in the magnitude of the zero-field splitting tensor D, and (iii) displacements of the orientations of the D tensors. Results are interpreted in terms of alternate rotations of the oxygen octahedra, showing participation of the carboxyl oxygens in the transition. No drastic changes in the parameters occur across the -75°C transition consistent with its second order nature. Similarities and dissimilarities of the ESR spectra of the three compounds in relation to the phase transitions, are discussed.

The oxidation of sodium sulphide in the presence of fine activated carbon particles (4.33 μm) has been studied at 75°C in a foam bed contactor. The existing single-stage model of a foam bed reactor has been modified to take into account the effect of heterogeneous catalyst particles and the absorption in the storage section. The variables studied are catalyst loading, initial sulphide concentration and the average liquid hold-up in the foam bed. It is seen that the rates of oxidation of sodium sulphide are considerably enhanced by an increase in the loading of activated carbon particles. The rate of conversion of sodium sulphide also increases with an increase in the average liquid hold-up in the foam. The modified model predicts these effects fairly well. The contribution of reaction in the storage section is found to be less than 2% of the overall rate of conversion in the contactor.
