The primary and secondary threshold intensities of ultraviolet-laser-induced preferential domain nucleation in nearly stoichiometric LiTaO3 is observed. The primary threshold is the minimum intensity to achieve the instantaneous preferential domain nucleation within the focus by the combined action of irradiation and electric fields. The secondary threshold is the minimum intensity to achieve the memory effect without any irradiation within the original focus. The space charge field created by the photoionization carriers is thought to be responsible for the instantaneous effect. The explanation based on the formation and transformation of extrinsic defect is presented for the memory effect. (c) 2008 American Institute of Physics.

对紫外激光诱导近化学计量比钽酸锂晶体铁电畴反转进行了实验研究。波长为351 nm的连续紫外激光被聚焦在近化学计量比钽酸锂晶体的-z表面,同时沿与晶体自发极化相反的方向施加均匀外电场。实验证实紫外激光辐照可以有效地降低晶体畴反转所需的矫顽电场,采用数字全息干涉测量技术检测证实在激光辐照区域实现局域畴反转。研究表明采用紫外激光诱导可以实现对近化学计量比钽酸锂晶体铁电畴反转的局域控制。提出了物理机理的理论分析,认为外电场和激光辐照场的共同作用在晶体内部产生高浓度、大尺寸的缺陷结构,缺陷一定程度上降低畴体成核和畴

在同成分LiTaO3熔体中掺入一定剂量的K2O,采用顶部籽晶提拉法生长掺镁近化学计量比LiTaO3晶体。对晶体分别进行光谱分析,畴结构和抗光损伤阈值的测定。结果表明:与同成分掺镁LiTaO3晶体相比较,其紫外吸收边出现明显蓝移,红外吸收峰变弱。腐蚀晶片的晶相显微镜观察结果表明:掺镁近化学剂量比晶体的畴结构是较为规则的六边形;晶体的抗光致散射能力明显提高。

根据准相位匹配理论计算了周期极化LiTaO3(PPLT)晶体中0类准相位匹配过程(e+e→e)的增益曲线.在此基础上,使用数百心的低抽运能量获得了-10^6的增益和-10.3%的转换效率,实现了中心波长位于1064nm的基于简并光学啁啾脉冲参量放大(OPCPA)技术的高增益放大,为产生超短超强激光脉冲提供了新的技术手段.实验结果与理论预期基本符合.

A stoichiometric Gd2O3-x thin film has been grown on a silicon (10 0) substrate with a low-energy dual ion-beam epitaxial technique. Gd2O3-x shares Gd2O3 structures although there are many oxygen deficiencies in the film. The photoluminescence (PL) measurements have been performed in a temperature range 5-300 K. The detailed characters of the peak position, the full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) and the peak intensity at different temperature were reported. An anomalous intensity behavior of the PL spectra has been observed, which is similar to that of some other materials such as porous silicon and silicon nanocrystals in silicon dioxide. Therefore, we suggest that the nanoclusters with the oxygen deficiencies contribute to the PL emission and employ the model of singlet-triplet exchange splitting of exciton to discuss the four peaks observed in the experiment. Stoichiometric gadolinium oxide thin films have been grown on silicon (100) substrates with a low-energy dual ion-beam epitaxial technique. Gadolinium oxide shares Gd2O3 structures although the ratio of gadolinium and oxygen in the film is about 2:1 and a lot of oxygen deficiencies exist. Photoluminescence (PL) measurements have been carried out within a temperature range of 5-300 K. The detailed characters of the PL emission integrated intensity, peak position, and peak width at different temperature were reported and an anomalous photoluminescence behavior was observed. The character of PL emission integrated intensity is similar to that of some other materials such as porous silicon and silicon nanocrystals in silicon dioxide. Four peaks relative to alpha band and beta band were observed also. Therefore we suggest that the nanoclusters with the oxygen deficiencies contribute to the PL emission and the model of singlet-triplet exchange splitting of exciton was employed for discussion. The deviation from the stoichiometric composition of single-crystal 'Er2Co17' has been determined by theoretical analysis. It is found that the composition of this single-crystal 'Er2Co17' is rich in cobalt, and its real composition is suggested to be Er2-deltaCo17+2 delta (delta = 0.14) on the basis of a comparison of calculations based on the single-ion model with a series of experiments. The values of the Er-Co exchange field H-ex and the crystalline-electric-field (CEF) parameters A(n)(m) at the rare-earth (R) site in the 'Er2Co17' compound are also evaluated at the same time. The experiments provide the following data: the temperature dependence of the spontaneous magnetization of the compounds and the normalized magnetic moment of the Er ion, the magnetization curves dong the crystallographic axes at 4.2 K and 200 K, and the temperature dependence of the magnetization along the crystallographic axes in a field of 4 T.

The influences of arsenic interstitials and dislocations on the lattice parameters of undoped semi-insulating (SI) GaAs single crystals were analyzed. It was shown that the dislocations in such crystals serve as effective gettering sites for arsenic interstitials due to the deformation energy of dislocations. The average excess arsenic in GaAs epilayers grown by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) at low temperatures (LT) is about 1%, and the lattice parameters of these epilayers are larger than those of liquid-encapsulated Czochralski-grown (LEG) SI-GaAs by about 0.1%. The atomic ratio, [As]/([Ga] + [As]), in SI-GaAs grown by low-pressure (LP) LEC is the nearest to the strict stoichiometry compared with those grown by high-pressure (HP) LEC and vertical gradient freeze (VGF). After multiple wafer annealing (MWA), the crystals grown by HPLEC become closer to be strictly stoichiometric.

We present an analysis of extensive nutrient data sets from two river-dominated coastal ecosystems, the northern Adriatic Sea and the northern Gulf of Mexico, demonstrating significant changes in surface nutrient ratios over a period of 30 years. The silicon:nitrogen ratios have decreased, indicating increased potential for silicon limitation. The nitrogen:phosphorus and the silicon:phosphorus ratios have also changed substantially, and the coastal nutrient structures have become more balanced and potentially less limiting for phytoplankton growth. It is likely that net phytoplankton productivity increased under these conditions and was accompanied by increasing bottom water hypoxia and major changes in community species composition. These findings support the hypothesis that increasing coastal eutrophication to date may be associated with stoichiometric nutrient balance, due to increasing potential for silicon limitation and decreasing potential for nitrogen and phosphorus limitation. On a worldwide basis, coastal ecosystems adjacent to rivers influenced by anthropogenic nutrient loads may experience similar alterations.

Nearly monodisperse Pd nanocubes with controllable sizes were synthesized through a seed-mediated growth approach. By using Pd nanocubes of 22 nm in size as seeds, the morphology of the as-grown nanostructures was fixed as single-crystalline, which enabled us to rationally tune the size of Pd nanocubes. The formation mechanism of initial 22 nm nanocubes was also discussed. The size-dependent surface plasmon resonance properties of the as-synthesized Pd nanocubes were investigated. Compared with previous methods, the yield, monodispersity, perfection of the shape formation, and the range of size control of these nanocubes are all improved.

By incorporating two phosphorescent dyes, namely, iridium(III)[bis(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,C-2']picolinate (Flrpic) for blue emission and bis(2-(9,9-diethyl-9H-fluoren-2-yl)-1-phenyl-1 H-benzoimidazol-N,C-3) iridium(acetylacetonate) ((fbi)(2)Ir(acac)) for orange emission, into a single-energy well-like emissive layer, an extremely high-efficiency white organic light-emitting diode (WOLED) with excellent color stability is demonstrated. This device can achieve a peak forward-viewing power efficiency of 42.5 lm W-1, corresponding to an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 19.3% and a current efficiency of 52.8 cd A(-1). Systematic studies of the dopants, host and dopant-doped host films in terms of photophysical properties (including absorption, photoluminescence, and excitation spectra), transient photoluminescence, current density-voltage characteristics, and temperature-dependent electroluminescence spectra are subsequently performed, from which it is concluded that the emission natures of Flrpic and (fbi)(2)Ir(acac) are, respectively, host-guest energy transfer and a direct exciton formation process. These two parallel pathways serve to channel the overall excitons to both dopants, greatly reducing unfavorable energy losses.

The La0.85MgxNi4.5Co0.35Al0.15 (0.05less than or equal toxless than or equal to0.35) system compounds have been prepared by are melting method under Ar atmosphere. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis reveals that the as-prepared alloys have different lattice parameters and cell volumes. The electrochemical properties of these alloys have been studied through the charge-discharge recycle testing at different temperatures and discharge currents. It is found that the La0.85Mg0.25Ni4.5Co0.35Al0.(15) alloy electrode is capable of performing high-rate discharge. Moreover, it has very excellent electrochemical properties as negative electrode materials in Ni-MH battery at low temperature, even at -40degreesC.
