Pipeline Corrosion Analyzed by Fuzzy Reliability Methods

Fuzzy reliability methods are used to study the corrosion of pipelines. Three methods are used. They consist of using fracture failure modes, failure assessment diagram (FAD) and residual strength for establishing fuzzy reliability. Calculations are made by application of JC, improved GA-JC and Mente-carlo methods. Examples for oilfield injecting water pipeline show the residual strength well agree with field data. Mente-carlo methods appear to yield results that have better agreement with field data.

Phase unwrapping based on branch cut placing and reliability ordering

A new 2-D quality-guided phase-unwrapping algorithm, based on the placement of the branch cuts, is presented. Its framework consists of branch cut placing guided by an original quality map and reliability ordering performed on a final quality map. To improve the noise immunity of the new algorithm, a new quality map, which is used as the original quality map to guide the placement of the branch cuts, is proposed. After a complete description of the algorithm and the quality map, several wrapped images are used to examine the effectiveness of the algorithm. Computer simulation and experimental results make it clear that the proposed algorithm works effectively even when a wrapped phase map contains error sources, such as phase discontinuities, noise, and undersampling. Effects of damming on population sustainability of Chinese sturgeon, Acipenser sinensis: evaluation of optimal conservation measures

The numbers of spawning sites for Chinese sturgeon have been drastically reduced since the construction of the Gezhouba Dam across the Yangtze River. This dam has blocked migration of Chinese sturgeon to their historic spawning ground causing a significant decline of the Chinese sturgeon population. We conducted a VORTEX population viability analysis to estimate the sustainability of the population and to quantify the efficiency of current and alternative conservation procedures. The model predicted the observed decline of Chinese sturgeon, resulting from the effect of the Gezhouba Dam. These simulations demonstrated the potential interest of two conservation measures: increasing spawning area and reducing predation on sturgeon eggs. The simulations also demonstrated that the actual restocking program is not sufficient to sustain sturgeon population as the artificial reproduction program induce the loss of more wild mature adults that the recruitment expected by the artificial reproduction.

Detecting a set of entanglement measures in an unknown tripartite quantum state by local operations and classical communication

We propose a more general method for detecting a set of entanglement measures, i.e., negativities, in an arbitrary tripartite quantum state by local operations and classical communication. To accomplish the detection task using this method, three observers do not need to perform partial transposition maps by the structural physical approximation; instead, they only need to collectively measure some functions via three local networks supplemented by a classical communication. With these functions, they are able to determine the set of negativities related to the tripartite quantum state.

An Improved Driving Circuit for Thermo-Optical Switch to Improve the Reliability of Thermo-Optical Switch Matrix

The influence of the heaters on the reliability of the thermo-optic (TO) switch matrix is analyzed and an improved driving circuit based on the analyzed results is designed and fabricated. The circuit can improve the reliability of the switch matrix device from 78.87% to 97.04% for a 4×4 optical switch device with a simplified tree structure. The simulation and experimental results show the circuit can provide suitable driving current for TO switch matrix.

Dependence of ultra-thin gate oxide reliability on surface cleaning approach

In this paper, we investigate the effect of silicon surface cleaning prior to oxidation on the reliability of ultra-thin oxides. It is demonstrated that chemical preoxide grown in H2SO4/H2O2 (SPM) solution prior to oxidation provides better oxide integrity than both HF-based solution dipping and preoxide grown in RCA SC1 or SC2 solutions. It is also found that the oxides with SPM preoxide exhibit better hot-carrier immunity than the RCA cleaned oxides.
