In order to measure the diffraction-limit wavefront, we present three types of common-path double-shearing interferometers based on the theory of double shearing. Two pairs of half-aperture or whole-aperture wedge plates are used to introduce opposite tilt to realize the double-shearing function. By comparing the fringe widths in two fields, the marginal wavefront aberration can be obtained. In the paper, we give three different configurations: half-aperture configuration, whole-field configuration and double-interferometer configuration. The half-aperture configuration has the features of high sensitivity, stabilization and easy alignment. For the whole-field configuration, the interference fringes are displayed in two whole fields. Consequently, the divergent or convergent characteristic and aberration types of a wavefront can be identified visually. The whole-field configuration can be changed to the double-interferometer configuration for continuous test. Both small and large wavefront aberrations can be measured by the double-interferometer configuration. The minimum detectable wavefront aberration (W-0)(min) comes to 0.03 lambda. Lastly, we present the experimental results for the three types of double-shearing interferometers.

The polarization characteristics of electro-optical (EO) switches using fiber Sagnac interferometer (FSI) structures are theoretically investigated. Analytical solutions of output fields are presented when the twists and birefringence in a Sagnac loop are considered. Numerical calculations show that the twists of fiber, the orientation of the inserted phase retarder, and the splitting ratio of the coupler will influence both the output intensity and the output polarization properties of the proposed switch. A polarization-independent EO switch based on a Sagnac interferometer and a PUT bar was experimentally implemented, which showed good coincidence with the analytical results. The experiment showed a switch with 22 dB extinction ratio and less than 31.1 ns switching time. (c) 2006 Optical Society of America.

We design and experimentally demonstrate some negative dispersion mirrors with optimized Gires-Tournois interferometers. The mirror structure is composed of 38 alternating Ta2O5 and SiO2 layers and could be regarded as two sections: high-reflectivity section consisting of a series of quarter-wavelength optical thickness stacks and negative-dispersion section consisting of only 13 layers. The designed mirrors exhibit the expected performance. These mirrors were fabricated by using ion beam sputtering. By adopting such mirrors, dispersion of a mode-locked femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser has been compensated for mostly. With two series of the mirrors, 32 fs and 15 fs pulses have been obtained respectively.

Modulation arms with different widths are introduced to Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) to obtain improved performance. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation have shown that when the widths of the two arms are properly designed to achieve an inherent m pi/2 (m is an odd integer) optical phase difference between the arms, the asymmetric MZI presents higher modulation speed. Furthermore, the carrier-absorption induced divergence of insertion losses in silicon-on-insulator (SOI) based MZI optical switches can be obviously improved.

Micro Fabry-Perot (F-P) interferometers (MFPIs) are machined in a single-mode fiber (SMF) and a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) by using a near-infrared femtosecond laser, respectively. The strain and temperature characteristics of the two MFPIs with an identical cavity length are investigated and the experimental results show that the strain sensitivity of the PCF-based MFPI is smaller than that of the SMF-based MFPI due to their different waveguide structures, while the two MFPIs have close temperature sensitivities which are much smaller than that of an in-line SMF etalon sensor reported previously. These MFPIs in silica fibers are compact, stable, inexpensive, capable for mass-production and easy fabrication, offering great potentials for wide sensing applications. 现有的半导体激光干涉仪存在测量精度与测量范围的矛盾。本文提出一种新的实时位移测量半导体激光干涉仪,并分析了干涉仪的测量原理。首先提出一种新的解相算法,它通过两路实时相位探测电路从干涉信号中得到待测量相位,消除了光强波动、初始光程差、电路放大倍数、调制深度、Bessel函数等参数对测量精度的影响,提高了测量精度。其次,提出一种扩大测量范围的技术,并用解包裹电路得到真实相位和待测量的位移, 将测量范围从半个波长提高到几个波长。在实验中,测得喇叭的峰峰值为2361.7nm,重复测量精度为2.56nm,测量时间为

We propose a sinusoidal phase-modulating laser diode interferometer for measuring small angular displacement. The interferometer is based on a Fabry-Perot plate. It has a simple structure and is insensitive to external disturbance. Sinusoidal phase-modulating interferometry is used for improving the measurement accuracy. A charge-coupled device (CCD) image sensor is used for measuring the distance between the reflected beams from two faces of the Fabry-Perot plate. From the distance, the initial angle of incidence is calculated. Compared with Michelson interferometers and autocollimators, this interferometer has the advantage of compact size and simple structure. 提出一种基于平行平板干涉仪的改进型角度测量方法。为了实现较大的偏转角度测量,该平行平板干涉仪引入了一位置探测系统。平面反射镜的引入提高了角度测量的分辨率。实验验证了可在近3度的范围内实现被测偏转角度的高精度测量。并且作为一位相调制型干涉仪,其小角位移测量实验的重复精度可达5.5×10^(-8)rad。

在光纤无线电系统(ROF)中,提出了一种利用法布里-珀罗干涉仪来实现将一个光学脉冲转换为毫米波频率调制的光学脉冲的方法。在这种方法中,毫米波调制的频率是由法布里-珀罗干涉仪的腔长来决定的,而脉冲序列振幅衰减和能量转移效率则是由法布里-珀罗干涉仪的腔镜反射率决定的。同时,文中对输出脉冲宽度的扩展所导致的脉冲间的干涉问题也进行了详细阐述。

提出一种新的步进扫描投影光刻机工件台方镜不平度测量方法。以方镜平移补偿量与旋转补偿量为测量目标,使用两个双频激光干涉仪分别测量工件台在x和y方向的位置和旋转量;将方镜不平度的测量按照一定的偏移量分成若干个序列,每一个序列包括对方镜有效区域的若干次往返测量;根据所有序列的测量结果计算出方镜的旋转补偿量;为每一个序列建立临时边界条件,并据此计算出每一序列所测得的方镜粗略平移补偿量;采用三次样条插值与最小二乘法建立每一个序列间的关系,以平滑连接所有测量序列得到精确的方镜平移补偿量。结果表明,该方法用于测量方镜平

Topography of a granite surface has an effect on the vertical positioning of a wafer stage in a lithographic tool, when the wafer stage moves on the granite. The inaccurate measurement of the topography results in a bad leveling and focusing performance. In this paper, an in situ method to measure the topography of a granite surface with high accuracy is present. In this method, a high-order polynomial is set up to express the topography of the granite surface. Two double-frequency laser interferometers are used to measure the tilts of the wafer stage in the X- and Y-directions. From the sampling tilts information, the coefficients of the high-order polynomial can be obtained by a special algorithm. As there exist some problems with the previous laser diode (LD) real-time microvibration measurement interferometers, such as low accuracy, correction before every use, etc., in this paper, we propose a new technique to realize the real-time microvibration measurement by using the LD sinusoidal phase-modulating interferometer, analyze the measurement theory and error, and simulate the measurement accuracy. This interferometer utilizes a circuit to process the interference signal in order to obtain the vibration frequency and amplitude of the detective signal, and a computer is not necessary in it. The influence of the varying light intensity and light path difference on the measurement result can be eliminated. This technique is real-time, convenient, fast, and can enhance the measurement accuracy too. Experiments show that the repeatable measurement accuracy is less than 3.37 nm, and this interferometer can be applied to real-time microvibration measurement of the MEMS. (C) 2007 Elsevier GmbH.
