In this paper, a serial of Bi3.4Yb0.6Ti3-xVxO12 (BYTV) thin film with different V5+ contents were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by chemical solution deposition (CSD). The crystallized phase and electrical properties of the films were investigated using X-ray diffraction, polarization hysteresis loops, leakage current-voltage, and fatigue test. From our experimental results, it can be found that the ferroelectric properties can be improved greatly using V5+-doped in Bi3.4Yb0.6Ti3O12 (BYT) thin film, compared with the reported BYT thin film. The remanent polarization was enhanced and excellent leakage current characteristic with 10(-11)A at the bias voltage of 4V, which is much lower than the BYT thin film or some reported bismuth layer-structure ferroelectric films. Fatigue test shows that the fabricated films have good anti-fatigue characteristic after 10(10) switching cycles. (c) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.

We have performed an experiment on near threshold double ionization of helium by 106 eV electron impact with an improved reaction microscope. In this experiment the momenta of three particles after ionization were measured, and the information on correlation of emitted electrons was obtained. Detailed descriptions of the experimental setup and the methods of reconstruction of electron momentum were given. We focused on the analysis of momentum and energy distributions and the angular correlation of the emitted electrons. The experimental results were compared with Wannier's prediction, and it was found that the experimental results showed some characteristic features predicted by Wannier theory.

Within the framework of the improved isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (ImIQMD) model, the dynamics of strangeness (K-0,K-+, Lambda, and Sigma(-,0,+)) production in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies is investigated systematically, with the strange particles considered to be produced mainly by inelastic collisions of baryon-baryon and pion-baryon. Collisions in the region of suprasaturation densities of the dense baryonic matter formed in heavy-ion collisions dominate the yields of strangeness production. Total multiplicities as functions of incident energies and collision centralities are calculated with the Skyrme parameter SLy6. The excitation function of strangeness production is analyzed and also compared with the KaoS data for K+ production in the reactions C-12 + C-12 and Au-197 + Au-197.

The vibrationally resolved spectra of selected rotamers of m-aminophenol have been recorded by mass analyzed threshold ionization spectroscopy in connection with two-color resonant two-photon excitation scheme. The adiabatic ionization energies of the cis and trans rotamers are 61460 +/- 5 and 61734 +/- 5 cm(-1), respectively. The frequencies of modes 1 (breathing) and 18a (in-plane CH bending) are measured to be 744 and 1097 cm(-1) for the cis, and 736 and 1104 cm(-1) for the trans rotamer, respectively. This indicates that different orientation of the OH with respect to the NH2 substituent only slightly influences these two modes. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We demonstrate a low threshold polymer solid state thin-film distributed feedback (DFB) laser on an InP substrate with the DFB structure. The used gain medium is conjugated polymer poly[2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1, 4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) doped polystyrene (PS) and formed by drop-coating method. The second order Bragg scattering region on the InP substrate gave rise to strong feedback, thus a lasing emission at 638.9nm with a line width of 1.2nm is realized when pumped by a 532nm frequency-doubled Nd: YAG pulsed laser. The devices show a laser threshold as low as 7 nJ/pulse.

Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) characteristics of a blue dye coumarin 151 encapsulated in a highly ordered mesoporous SBA-15 were studied. The spectra narrowing was observed and found that the threshold and loss were greatly reduced, and the gain is significantly increased compared with spin-coated coumarin 151 doped poly(4-vinylphenol) film. The ASE threshold, gain, and loss, respectively, reached 0.55 mJ pulse(-1) cm(-2), 44.78 cm(-1), and 8.9 cm(-1) for the coumarin 151 encapsulated in mesoporous SBA-15 film. The optimized lasing action owes much to the effects of the better spatial confinement of the molecules in the ordered mesoporous structure of the host SBA-15.

Flexural fatigue tests were conducted on injection-molded short fiber composites, carbon fiber/poly(phenylene ether ketone) (PEK-C) and glass fiber/PEK-C (with addition of polyphenylene sulfide for improving adhesion between matrix and fibers), using four-point bending at stress ratio of 0.1. The fatigue behavior of these materials was presented. By comparing the S-N curves and analyzing the fracture surfaces of the two materials, the similarity and difference of the failure mechanisms in the two materials were discussed. It is shown that the flexural fatigue failure of the studied materials is governed by their respective tensile properties. The matrix yielding is main failure mechanism at high stress, while at lower stress the fatigue properties appear fiber and interface dominated. (C) 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

The present work investigates the effects of cyclic fatigue loading on the residual properties of an injection-molded composite, carbon-fiber-reinforced poly(phenylene ether ketone) (CF/PEK-C), and damage development in this material under fatigue lending. Test specimens, which had been conditioned to various preselected fatigue damage stages, were measured for their residual properties. The results indicated that cyclic fatigue loading alters the constitutive behavior of the injection-molded composite, especially in the non-linear portion of the stress/strain curve. The residual strength decreases with increase in the number of fatigue cycles as a consequence of the accumulation of fatigue damage, which is dominated by the growth of microcracks. While the residual modulus increases slightly with cyclic fatigue loading, this is probably due to the oriented hardening resulting from creep deformation which is induced during cyclic loading. Tension-tension fatigue tests were conducted on unnotched injection moulded poly(phenylene ether ketone) (PEK-C) specimens with two stress ratios, R. The fatigue behaviour of this material is described. The S-N curves (S = alternating stress, N = number of cycles to failure) for different R values have the same general shape, but the curve for bigger R is shifted to long cycles. A fatigue lifetime inversion is observed from constructed S-N curves. Examinations of failure surfaces and analyses of the fatigue data reveal that the fatigue failure mechanism of the material studied is crack growth dominated. But the manner of the fatigue crack initiation and propagation depends on the maximum cyclic stress applied. At higher stresses, the fatigue crack originates at the corner of the specimen and propagates inward; at lower stresses, the fatigue crack nucleates at an internal flaw of the specimen and propagates outward. The fatigue lifetime inversion corresponds to the transition of crack initiation and propagation from one mode to the other. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Flexural fatigue tests were performed on an injection-moulded glass-fiber reinforced blend of polyphenylene ether ketone and polyphenylene sulfide composite using four-point bending at a series of fixed mean stress levels with varying stress amplitude. Attention was given to identifying the effects of mean stress and stress amplitude on the fatigue life and failure mechanisms. It was found that the fatigue life of the studied material decreased sharply with increasing stress amplitude at a constant mean stress level and also decreased at a fixed stress amplitude with increasing mean stress. However, analyses of the fatigue data and failure behaviour reveal that, for the studied material, fatigue failure mechanisms depend on the relative importance of mean stress and stress amplitude. At a mean stress level of 80% ultimate flexural strength, the failure results from accumulation of creep strain, while at mean stress levels of 40%, 50% and 60% ultimate flexural strength, the magnitude of stress amplitude influences the type of failure mechanism. As stress amplitude is reduced, the fatigue failure mechanism changes from matrix yielding dominated to crack growth dominated fracture.

Experiments on the corrosion fatigue behaviour of welded joints of the steel for marine platform in air and seawater, and of the joints in seawater with cathodic protection, yielded data for linear regression to obtain fatigue life curves (Delta S-N-f). The laws of corrosion fatigue in welded joints of test steel are discussed with reference to those of A(587) and A(131) steel. In these experiments, the fatigue damage occurring at all welded joints around the weld interface resulted in the cracks and fractures. The fatigue life of the specimens in seawater with cathodic protection is longer than that in seawater Without protection.
