By considering all possible high order diffracted waves, the authors calculate the coupling efficiency of long period gratings for 3-5 mu m quantum-well infra-red photodetectors (QWIPs) on the basis of the modal expansion model (MEM). A large coupling efficiency for 3-5 mu m QWIPs has been demonstrated. This greatly reduces the difficulties in fabricating 3-5 mu m grating coupled QWIPs and opens the way to fabricate high performance 3-5 mu m and two colour QWIPs image arrays.

Triplexers are designed based on SOl flattop arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs). Three wavelengths (1310, 1490,and 1550nm) operate at three diffraction orders of AWGs. Simulation shows that the 3dB bandwidth,crosstalk, and loss are 6nm,less than -40dB, and 5dB, respectively. The output optical fields of the device fabricated in our laboratory are clear and show a good triplexing function.

A novel distribute feedback (DFB) laser which gave two different wavelengths under two distinct work conditions was fabricated. The laser consists of two Bragg gratings with different periods corresponding to wavelength spacing of 20 nm in an identical active area. When driving current was injected into one of the different sections separately, two different wavelengths at 1542.4 and 1562.5 nm were realized. The side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of 45 dB or more both for the two Bragg wavelengths were achieved. The fabricating process of the laser was just the same as that of traditional DFB laser diode. This device can be potentially used in coarse wavelength division multiplexer (CWDM) as a promising light source and the technology idea can be used to enlarge the transmission capacity in metro area network (MAN).

The tunable BIG-RW distributed Bragge reflector lasers with two different coupling coefficient gratings are proposed and fabricated.The threshold current of the laser is 38mA and the output power is more than 8mW.The tunable range of tthe laser is 3.2nm and the side moded suppression ratio is more than 30dB.The variation of the output power within the tunable wavelength range is less than 0.3dB

The principle of optical scanning holography with circular gratings (CG) as the scanning field is presented. The generation and reconstruction processes of the scanning holography are described. These processes are numerical simulated by computer and the results are achieved. It is shown that the resolution power of the reconstructed image of CG scanning hologram is higher than that of FZP scanning hologram.

We fabricated a bandpass filter based on Moire Bragg grating in fiber with a uniform phase mask We employed a stretch and two-exposure technique, in which the fiber was exposed to UV light from a KrF excimer through a phase mask and then the fiber is stretched and given another exposure at the same region. Due to the stretch, the periods of these two grating are slightly different, and there is a transmission between two reflection peaks at the Bragg wavelength of these two gratings.Applying different stretch can control the bandpass width of the filter. We measured the stretch characterization of a uniform Bragg grating and found the Bragg wavelength of the grating shifts linearly with the stretched length.We theoretically analyzed the grating structure and its reflection spectrum. The filter's characteristics can be optimized by choosing appropriate parameters. We will give a theoretical discussion concerning which parameters and how they affect the filter's operation.

本文介绍了近几年来中国科学院力学研究所开展的结构健康监测(StructuralHealth Monitoring,SHM)研究的进展。主要包括:基于光纤光栅(Fiber Bragg Gratings,FBG)的SHM传感技术,涉及到系列光纤传感器(应变、温度、加速度、位移)开发、应变分布测量算法和技术、低温应变和温度测量及SHM应用;模态空间SHM理论和FBG应变模态测量技术;状态空间SHM理论和技术,如结构静载监测和非线性系统相空间损伤识别技术。此外还介绍了SHM系统的集成及在实际结构中的应用。最后对SHM的重要研究方向进行了展望。

Isotactic polypropylene in its a modification (alpha iPP) crystallises epitaxially on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and several hemiacids or salts of substituted benzoic acids via a novel contact plane, namely (110): so far, the only known contact plane involved in alpha iPP homo- and hetero-epitaxies was (010). In spite of its complicated architecture (alternation of antichiral helices with different azimuthal settings), the (110)(alpha iPP) contact plane displays well defined, if not prominent, rows of methyl side chains parallel to the crystallographic (112) direction (at 57 degrees to the c-axis) and approximate to 5.5 Angstrom apart. The matching contact planes of the substrates display linear gratings made of rows of e.g. chlorine atoms or PTFE chains with similar approximate to 5.5 Angstrom inter-row or interchain distances. Various morphologies are observed in iPP thin films crystallised at different cooling rates in the presence of PTFE; they can be analysed in terms of a succession and interplay of successive epitaxies: initial alpha iPP/PTFE heteroepitaxy, followed by alpha iPP/alpha iPP and gamma iPP/alpha iPP homoepitaxies. Developmental dyslexia (DD) is a common kind of learning disorder, which affects 5-18% of people. It seems important to explore the deficit in visual magnocellular pathway in Chinese developmental dyslexia, for many researches demonstrated that one of the core deficits of Chinese developmental dyslexia was orthographic deficit which was associated with the deficit in visual magnocellular pathway. Two studies were done to detect the differences among Chinese developmental dyslexics, average readers of the same chronological age (CA controls) and average readers of the same reading level (RL controls) in reaction time, accuracy and visual mismatch negativity (vMMN) elicited by the moving gratings responded by visual magnocellular pathway. There were two grating-conditions which were low contrast/low spatial frequency condition and high contrast/high spatial frequency condition respectively. In ERP study, a modified “cross-modal delayed response” paradigm was used to elicit the vMMN. The results showed that the developmental dyslexics responded slower than CA controls, had more errors than RL controls, and had smaller amplitudes of vMMNs than the two controls in visual magnocellular pathway condition, but not in control condition. That is to say, Chinese developmental dyslexics had deficits in visual magnocellular pathway.
