Este proyecto consiste en la construcción de un prototipo para la gestión de proyectos, destinada a usuarios del entorno profesional. La herramienta pretende servir de soporte a los equipos que realicen un proyecto dotando al usuario con la posibilidad de gestionar los tiempos del proyecto, gestión de requisitos, gestión de recursos, gestión de la documentación, etc. Adicionalmente, este trabajo llevará asociado un plan de negocio para poder estudiar la viabilidad del proyecto, en este plan de negocio se analizará; el entorno externo (competencia); análisis de las debilidades, fortalezas, amenazas y oportunidades; plan de marketing; plan económicofinanciero; análisis de riesgos del proyecto. A grandes rasgos, la herramienta desarrollada se compone de dos bases de datos (una relacional y otra no relacional), un conjunto de módulos que implementan la funcionalidad y una interfaz gráfica que proporciona a los usuarios una forma cómoda de interactuar con el sistema, principalmente ofrecerá las siguientes opciones:  Gestión de proyectos  Gestión de usuarios.  Gestión de recursos  Gestión de tiempos  Cuadro de mando y notificaciones. ---ABSTRACT---This Project consist of the construction of a prototype for Project management, intended for users of the profesional environment. The software aims to support teams conducting a project by providing the user with the ability to manage time, requirements management, resource management, document management, etc. In addition, this work includes a business plan to study the viability of the project. This business plan addresses the following; analysis of the external enviroment; analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats; marketing plan; economic and financial plan; analysis of project risks. In general terms, the developed tools are composed of two databases (relational and nonrelational), a set of modules that implement the functionality and a web interface that gives users a convenient way to interact with the system. Today?s knowledge management (KM) systems seldom account for language management and, especially, multilingual information processing. Document management is one of the strongest components of KM systems. If these systems do not include a multilingual knowledge management policy, intranet searches, excessive document space occupancy and redundant information slow down what are the most effective processes in a single language environment. In this paper, we model information flow from the sources of knowledge to the persons/systems searching for specific information. Within this framework, we focus on the importance of multilingual information processing, which is a hugely complex component of modern organizations.

El Sistema Integrado de Gestión Académica consiste en una plataforma software modular orientada a apoyar la labor del profesorado en la gestión docente de las asignaturas impartidas por el Departamento de Mecánica de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería y Diseño Industrial de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Durante los últimos 5 años se ha trabajado en la creación de esta plataforma que se encuentra ahora en su recta final. Es necesario aclarar que toda la plataforma desde su inicio ha sido creada por el mismo autor y que debido al tiempo disponible para la realización del TFG, éste se ha centrado en realizar mejoras sobre lo ya desarrollado y en implementar uno de los módulos. El trabajo desarrollado comienza con un estudio de plataformas educativas online. Se han valorado las alternativas de Moodle y ATutor como posibles soluciones a los requisitos planteados llegando a la conclusión de que era necesario realizar un desarrollo a medida. La plataforma consta de 3 módulos principales:  Plataforma de Gestión Docente en Internet (PGDNet)  Aplicación de Notas (AdN)  Plataforma de Entrega de Prácticas Académicas (PEPA) PGDNet está orientado a la realización de pruebas de evaluación online. El profesor tiene a su alcance un conjunto de opciones que le permiten la creación de actividades y ejercicios de diferente índole, gestionar alumnos y establecer periodos de evaluación. El sistema recoge los resultados y corrige automáticamente permitiendo además exportar los resultados, manteniendo de esta manera la compatibilidad con otros sistemas informáticos de la UPM. PGDNet ofrece además un servicio de correo electrónico para realizar comunicaciones con grupos predefinidos de alumnos, un gestor documental enlazado con las diferentes actividades y un gestor de encuestas programable a medida. AdN se integra en la plataforma como un sistema para la gestión de calificaciones y permite mantener un historial del alumno. Las materias pueden dividirse en diferentes evaluaciones con un determinado peso sobre la calificación final. La nota total se calcula en tiempo real y de forma automática. El alumno puede entrar a consultar sus calificaciones en cualquier momento. El módulo ofrece a los profesores acceso simultáneo a introducir las calificaciones e importar notas guardadas de convocatorias pasadas. PEPA es el nuevo módulo que se añade a la plataforma y el que concentra los esfuerzos de desarrollo de este TFG. Se trata de un sistema de entrega de prácticas online que permite al profesor centralizar la recogida de documentación para su posterior corrección. PEPA dispone de un sistema de plantillas de respuestas fijas utilizadas en los laboratorios que son corregidas de forma automática en la entrega. Los 3 módulos se complementan entre sí compartiendo datos y permitiendo realizar importaciones y exportaciones de información con las aplicaciones actuales de Secretaría de alumnos como puede ser la introducción de listas de alumnos.---ABSTRACT---Academic Management Framework (Sistema Integrado de Gestión Académica) is a module‐oriented software application that aims to help teachers from ETSIDI Department from UPM to manage all information related to graduate courses. The software, which has been in continuous developing during the last 5 years, is now about to be finished. It must be pointed out the fact that the entire application has been designed and implemented by the same author. However, due to time schedule restrictions in this TFG (spanish acronym for “Graduation Project”), it has been focused on developing a few improvements in the software already implemented and creating a specific new module. In the beginning, this TFG includes an educational software comparative study. Moodle and ATutor have been selected as plausible assembled solutions that would fit the requirements given. Nonetheless, the conclusion ends up with rejecting both possibilities and moving the project towards a custom‐developed software. The application is divided in 3 modules:  Network Based Academic Management Platform (Plataforma de Gestión Docente en Internet ‐ PGDNet)  Evaluation Aid Tool (Aplicación de Notas ‐ AdN)  Academic Lab‐Work Delivery Platform (Plataforma de Entrega de Prácticas Académicas ‐ PEPA) PGDNet main purpose is handling online tests for students. There are a bunch of tools available for teachers that allow them to create activities and different types of exercises, manage students and set examination schedules. The system gathers the results and marks exercises automatically. Moreover, the teacher is able to export this information which is compatible with other UPM systems. PGDNet offers a mail service, a document management system and a survey application among others. AdN adds new features to the system. It helps teachers to manage student marks by keeping a history over the years. Subjects can be divided into little parts with a different weight in the final mark. Eventually, the mark is automatically calculated and published. The application can be accessed by both students and teachers simultaneously. This module is also ready to import old marks into the current course and allow all teachers to fill in the results at the same time. PEPA, which is a new module added from scratch, concentrate this TFG efforts. It consists of a practice delivery system that gathers all student documentation in a single site for easy correction. Besides, PEPA deploys an answer template repository for laboratory training. Students fill the templates and PEPA corrects them automatically on sending. These 3 modules are integrated in a single system that allows them to share data and import information such as student lists from the Administration Department.

Teamwork, is one of the abilities that today is highly valued in the professional arena with a great importance for various personal and interpersonal skills associated with it. In this context, the Technical University of Madrid, is developing a coordinated educational innovation project, which main objective is to develop methodological and assessment tools for the acquisition of personal skills necessary to improve the employability of graduates and their skills for project management. Within this context, this paper proposes a methodology composed of various activities and indicators, as well as specific assessment instruments linked to the teamwork competence. Through a series of systematic steps it was allowed the design of an instrument and construction of a scale for measuring the competence of teamwork. The practical application of the methodology has been carried out in Projects lectures from different Schools of Engineering at the Technical University of Madrid, which results are presented in this document as a pilot experience. Results show the various aspects and methods that teachers should consider in evaluating the competence of the work, including analysis of the quality of results, through reliability and construct validity. On the other hand, show the advantages of applying this methodology in the field of project management teaching.

This document presents an innovative, formal educational initiative that is aimed at enhancing the development of engineering students’ specific competences when studying Project Management (PM) subject. The framework of the experience combines (1) theoretical concepts, (2) the development of a real-case project carried out by multidisciplinary groups of three different universities, (3) the use of software web 2.0 tools and (4) group and individual assignments of students that play different roles (project managers and team members). Under this scenario, the study focuses on monitoring the communication competence in the ever growing PM virtual environment. Factors such as corporal language, technical means, stage, and PM specific vocabulary among others have been considered in order to assess the students’ performance on this issue. As a main contribution, the paper introduces an ad-hoc rubric that, based on previous investigations, has been adapted and tested for the first time to this new and specific context. Additionally, the research conducted has provided some interesting findings that suggest further actions to improve and better define future rubrics, oriented to communication or even other competences. As specific PM subject concerns, it has been detected that students playing the role of Project Managers strengthen their competences more than those ones that play the role of Team Members. It has also been detected that students have more difficulty assimilating concepts related to risk and quality management. However those concepts related with scope, time or cost areas of knowledge have been better assimilated by the students.

This paper focuses on identifying and analysing the elements of Strategic Management for infrastructure and engineering assets. These elements are contended to involve an understanding of governance, corporate policy, corporate objectives, corporate strategy and interagency collaboration and will in turn, allow the ability determine a broader and more comprehensive framework for engineering asset management, ie a ‘staged approach’ to understanding how assets are managed within organisations. While the assets themselves have often been the sole concern for good management practices, other social and contextual elements have come into the mix in order to promote strategic asset management. The development of an integrated approach to asset management is at the base of the research question. What are the considerations and implications for adopting and implementing an integrated strategic asset management (ISAM) framework? While operational matters have been given prominence, a subset of corporate governance, Asset Governance, details the policies and processes needed to acquire, utilise, maintain and account for an organisation’s assets. Asset governance stems from the organisation’s overarching corporate governance principles; as a result it defines the management context in which engineering asset management is implemented. This aspect will be examined to determine the appropriate relationship between organisational strategic management and strategic asset management to further the theoretical engagement with the maturity of strategy,policy and governance for infrastructure and engineered assets. The research proceeds by a document analysis of corporate reports and policy recommendations in terms of infrastructure and engineered assets. The paper concludes that incorporating an integrated asset management framework can promote a more robust conceptualisation of public assets and how they combine to provide a comprehensive system of service outcomes.

The subject of project management is the common theoretical and practical framework that articulates an experience that is carried out by multidisciplinary groups. Full utilization of Web 2.0 platforms and Project Based Learning constitutes the applied methodology. More specifically, this study focuses on monitoring communication competence when working in virtual environments, providing an ad-hoc rubric as a final result.

This paper describes a particular knowledge acquisition tool for the construction and maintenance of the knowledge model of an intelligent system for emergency management in the field of hydrology. This tool has been developed following an innovative approach directed to end-users non familiarized in computer oriented terminology. According to this approach, the tool is conceived as a document processor specialized in a particular domain (hydrology) in such a way that the whole knowledge model is viewed by the user as an electronic document. The paper first describes the characteristics of the knowledge model of the intelligent system and summarizes the problems that we found during the development and maintenance of such type of model. Then, the paper describes the KATS tool, a software application that we have designed to help in this task to be used by users who are not experts in computer programming. Finally, the paper shows a comparison between KATS and other approaches for knowledge acquisition.

This document contains detailed description of the design and the implementation of a multi-agent application controlling traffic lights in a city together with a system for simulating traffic and testing. The goal of this thesis is to design and build a simplified intelligent and distributed solution to the problem with the traffic in the big cities following different good practices in order to allow future refining of the model of the real world. The problem of the traffic in the big cities is still a problem that cannot be solved. Not only is the increasing number of cars a reason for the traffic jams, but also the way the traffic is organized. Usually, the intersections with traffic lights are replaced by roundabouts or interchanges to increase the number of cars that can cross the intersection in certain time. But still there are places where the infrastructure cannot be changed and the traffic light semaphores are the only way to control the car flows. In real life, the traffic lights have a predefined plan for change or they receive information from a centralized system when and how they have to change. But what if the traffic lights can cooperate and decide on their own when and how to change? Using this problem, the purpose of the thesis is to explore different agent-based software engineering approaches to design and build a non-conventional distributed system. From the software engineering point of view, the goal of the thesis is to apply the knowledge and use the skills, acquired during the various courses of the master program in Software Engineering, while solving a practical and complex problem such as the traffic in the cities.

La gestión de las tecnologías de la información tiene cada vez más importancia dentro de un mundo totalmente digitalizado y donde la capacidad de respuesta al cambio puede marcar el devenir de una compañía, y resulta cada vez más evidente que los modelos de gestión tradicionales utilizados en la mayoría de las compañías no son capaces de dar respuesta por si solos a estas nuevas necesidades. Aun teniendo identificado este área de mejora, son muchas las empresas reacias a abordar estos cambios, principalmente por el cambio rupturista que significa a nivel interno. De cara a facilitar esta transformación, se propone en este documento un modelo de transición controlada donde las grandes compañías puedan incorporar nuevas alternativas y herramientas ágiles de forma paulatina y asegurando que el proceso de cambio es seguro y efectivo. Mediante una modificación del ciclo de vida de proyecto dentro de la compañía, se incorporan en las áreas, equipos o dominios de la empresa que se identifiquen los nuevos modelos de gestión ágil, permitiendo así una transición gradual y controlada, y pudiendo además analizar los detalles sobre todo en etapas tempranas de la transformación. Una vez seleccionada el área o dominio objeto de la transformación, se realiza un análisis a nivel de Portfolio de proyectos, identificando aquellos que cumplen una serie de condiciones que les permiten ser gestionados utilizando modelos de gestión ágil. Para ello, se plantea una matriz de decisión con las principales variables a tener en cuenta a la hora de tomar una decisión. Una vez seleccionado y consensuado con los interesados el modelo de gestión utilizando la matriz de decisión, se plantean una serie de herramientas y métricas asociadas para que la gestión ágil del proyecto dé una visibilidad completa y detallada del estado en cada momento, asegurando un correcto proceso de gestión de proyectos para proveer visibilidad regular del progreso, riesgos, planes de contingencia y problemas, con las alertas y escalaciones adecuadas. Además de proponerse una serie de herramientas y métricas para la gestión ágil del proyecto, se plantean las modificaciones necesarias sobre las tipologías habituales de contrato y se propone un nuevo modelo de contrato: el Contrato Agile. La principal diferencia entre este nuevo modelo de contrato y los habituales es que, al igual que las metodologías ágiles, es ejecutado en segmentos o iteraciones. En definitiva, el objetivo de este documento es proveer un mecanismo que facilite la inclusión de nuevos modelos ágiles de gestión en grandes organizaciones, llevando a cabo una transición controlada, con herramientas y métricas adaptadas para tener visibilidad completa sobre los proyectos en todo momento.---ABSTRACT---The information technology management is every time more important in a totally digitized world, where the capacity to response the change could mark the future of a company, and results every time more evident that the traditional management models used in the most of the companies are not able to respond by themselves to these new necessities. Even having identified this improvement area, many companies are reluctant to address these changes, mainly due to the disruptive change that it means internally in the companies. In order to facilitate this transformation, this document proposed a controlled transition model to help the big companies to incorporate new alternatives and agile tools gradually and ensuring that the change process is safe and effective. Through a modification the project life cycle inside the company, the new agile management models are incorporated in the selected areas, teams or domains, permitting a gradual and controlled transition, and enabling further analyze the details above all in the early phases of the transformation. Once is selected the area or domain object of the transformation, a portfolio level analysis is performed, identifying those projects that meet a some conditions that allow them to be managed using agile management models. For that, a decision matrix is proposed with the principal variables to have into account at the time of decision making. Once the management model is selected using the decision matrix and it is agreed with the different stakeholders, a group of tools and metrics associated with the agile management projects are proposed to provide a regular visibility of the project progress, risks, contingency plans and problems, with proper alerts and escalations. Besides the group of tools and metrics proposed for agile project management, the necessary modifications over the traditional contract models and a new contract model are proposed: the Agile Contract. The main difference between this new contract model and the traditional ones is that, as the agile methodologies, it is executed in segments or iterations. To sum up, the objective of this document is to provide a mechanism that facilitates the inclusion of new agile management models in big companies, with a controlled transition and proposing adapted tools and metrics to have a full visibility over the project in all the phases of the project life cycle.
