Nonparametric simple-contrast estimates for one-way layouts based on Hodges-Lehmann estimators for two samples and confidence intervals for all contrasts involving only two treatments are found in the literature.Tests for such contrasts are performed from the distribution of the maximum of the rank sum between two treatments. For random block designs, simple contrast estimates based on Hodges-Lehmann estimators for one sample are presented. However, discussions concerning the significance levels of more complex contrast tests in nonparametric statistics are not well outlined.This work aims at presenting a methodology to obtain p-values for any contrast types based on the construction of the permutations required by each design model using a C-language program for each design type. For small samples, all possible treatment configurations are performed in order to obtain the desired p-value. For large samples, a fixed number of random configurations are used. The program prompts the input of contrast coefficients, but does not assume the existence or orthogonality among them.In orthogonal contrasts, the decomposition of the value of the suitable statistic for each case is performed and it is observed that the same procedure used in the parametric analysis of variance can be applied in the nonparametric case, that is, each of the orthogonal contrasts has a chi(2) distribution with one degree of freedom. Also, the similarities between the p-values obtained for nonparametric contrasts and those obtained through approximations suggested in the literature are discussed.

Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos da inclusão de gordura de origem animal ou vegetal e de óleo mineral sobre a aceitabilidade, a digestibilidade dos nutrientes e as concentrações plasmáticas de triglicérides e colesterol em equinos. Utilizaram-se quatro potros de 13 a 16 meses de idade recebendo dieta contendo feno de gramínea e concentrado, em delineamento quadrado latino, analisado por contrastes ortogonais. A aceitabilidade não foi influenciada pela quantidade nem pelo tipo de óleo adicionado às dietas. Os menores valores de digestibilidade de matéria seca (MS), matéria orgânica (MO) e extrato etéreo (EE) foram observados para as dietas acrescidas de óleo mineral (58,90; 60,29 e 32,02%) em comparação à dieta controle, cujos valores foram de 62,58; 64,41 e 77,72%. O coeficiente de digestibilidade do EE obtido com a dieta com óleo mineral foi menor (32,02%) que o obtido para as dietas com gordura animal (90,26%) e gordura vegetal (86,47%). A dieta com óleo mineral reduziu a concentração de HDL-C (68,75 mg/dL) em relação à dieta controle (76,00 mg/dL). A adição de fontes lipídicas e óleo mineral não influencia na aceitabilidade da dieta por equinos. O óleo vegetal não se diferencia da gordura animal quanto à digestibilidade dos nutrientes, no entanto, essas fontes de lipídios afetam a digestibilidade do extrato etéreo. A adição de óleo mineral reduz os níveis plasmáticos de HDL-C, ao passo que a adição de gordura animal e gordura vegetal não altera as concentrações plasmáticas de colesterol.

Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the retention force of an O-ring attachment system in different inclinations to the ideal path of insertion, using devices to compensate angulations. Material and methods Two implants were inserted into an aluminum base, and ball attachments were screwed to implants. Cylinders with O-rings were placed on ball attachments and connected to the test device using positioners to compensate implant angulations (0 degrees, 7 degrees, and 14 degrees). Plexiglass bases were used to simulate implant angulations. The base and the test device were positioned in a testing apparatus, which simulated insertion/removal of an overdenture. A total of 2900 cycles, simulating 2 years of overdenture use, were performed and 36 O-rings were tested. The force required for each cycle was recorded with computer software. Longitudinal sections of ball attachment-positioner-cylinder with O-rings of each angulation were obtained to analyze the relationship among them, and O-ring sections tested in each angulation were compared with an unused counterpart. A mixed linear model was used to analyze the data, and the comparison was performed by orthogonal contrasts (alpha=0.05). Results At 0 degrees, the retention force decreased significantly over time, and the retention force was significantly different in all comparisons, except from 12 to 18 months. When the implants were positioned at 7 degrees, the retention force was statistically different at 0 and 24 months. At 14 degrees, significant differences were found from 6 and 12 to 24 months. Conclusions Within the limitations of this study, it was concluded that O-rings for implant/attachments perpendicular to the occlusal plane were adequately retentive over the first year and that the retentive capacity of O-ring was affected by implant inclinations despite the proposed positioners. Nosso país é um dos principais produtores agrícolas do mundo e altamente dependente da importação de fertilizantes, principalmente o potássio. Visando reduzir essa dependência, materiais provenientes de rochas para fornecimento desse elemento estão sendo testados. Este estudo foi divido em dois experimentos: um experimento em laboratório e um em casa de vegetação. O experimento em laboratório teve por objetivo avaliar os diferentes tipos de tratamentos térmicos e extratores, associados a fontes alternativas de potássio, no aumento da disponibilidade de K. O ensaio foi realizado num delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado num esquema fatorial 4 x 5 x 3, com quatro repetições. Os fatores estudados foram: quatro fontes alternativas de potássio (verdete, fonolito, gnaisse e granito); cinco tratamentos térmicos (radiação em forno micro-ondas; autoclavagem; aquecimento em forno mufla com resfriamento rápido; aquecimento em forno mufla com resfriamento lento; e o material in natura); e três extratores: água, ácido cítrico 2 % e solução Mehlich-1. As extrações foram realizadas utilizando 4 g das fontes alternativas, adicionando-se 40 mL de cada extrator, as amostras foram agitadas, centrifugadas, filtradas e avolumadas. Foram realizadas seis extrações sucessivas e determinada a concentração de potássio nos extratos. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância, sendo seus efeitos desdobrados em contrastes ortogonais. O experimento em casa de vegetação teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito da utilização de fontes alternativas de potássio, submetidas a tratamentos térmicos, no fornecimento de potássio para plantas de milho (Zea mays L.). O delineamento experimental adotado foi em blocos casualizados, em um esquema fatorial (3 x 5) + 1, sendo três fontes alternativas de K (verdete, fonolito e granito), submetidas à cinco diferentes tratamentos (aquecimento em forno mufla com resfriamento lento, aquecimento em forno mufla com resfriamento rápido, radiação em forno micro-ondas, autoclavagem, e o material in natura). As fontes alternativas foram comparadas com o cloreto KCl. Amostras de solo contendo 2 dm³ de TFSA, foram incubadas durante 20 dias. Após a adubação, em cada vaso foram aplicadas as fontes alternativas de potássio. Realizou-se o plantio com cinco sementes de milho e posterior desbaste, deixando três plantas por vaso. Decorridos 40 dias da semeadura, foi realizado o corte da parte aérea das plantas, a coleta de amostras de solo para análise dos teores de potássio e separação das raízes. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância e desdobrados em contrastes ortogonais. Observando os resultados obtidos nos experimentos de laboratório e casa de vegetação, podemos concluir que a fonte alternativa e proporcionou melhores resultados e que possui potencial agronômico para ser utilizada como fonte alternativa de potássio foi o fonolito. Utilizando o fonolito como fonte alternativa de nutrientes, o tratamento térmico que proporcionou melhores resultados foi o com aquecimento em forno mufla, principalmente quando o resfriamento foi realizado lentamente.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate different commercial laying hen diets formulated based on recommendations for total and digestible amino acids. One hundred and twenty Lohmann LSL commercial laying hens aged 25 weeks were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design involving five replications of six birds in four treatments. Diet formulation on a total amino acid basis followed the recommendations of NRC (1994) and Rostagno et al. (2000), whereas formulation on digestible amino acids basis was according to Rostagno et al. (2000) and Degussa (1997) recommendations. The experimental period was divided into five periods of fourteen days. Performance parameters (egg production, feed intake, feed conversion, egg mass) were evaluated for each period, and on the last two days of each period, three eggs per replication were collected to evaluate egg quality parameters (Haugh unit, egg specific gravity, egg weight, eggshell thickness and percentage). Means were compared by orthogonal contrasts. Results on feed intake, egg production, egg mass, feed conversion and egg specific gravity showed that total amino acid recommendations promoted better bird responses than digestible amino acid recommendations.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes épocas de poda no desenvolvimento, na produção e na qualidade de raízes tuberosas de mandioca. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos, em duas localidades do Estado de São Paulo: Botucatu, em área de solo argiloso, e São Manuel, em solo arenoso. Os experimentos foram conduzidos de setembro de 2008 a junho de 2010, e a colheita foi feita após dois ciclos vegetativos (22 meses). Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Foram avaliados dez tratamentos, nove épocas de poda espaçadas mensalmente, entre abril e dezembro, e uma testemunha conduzida sem poda. As épocas de poda foram analisadas estatisticamente por contrastes ortogonais, em comparação à testemunha, e por regressão. A poda da mandioca realizada no período de repouso fisiológico não altera o teor de matéria seca e a produtividade de raízes tuberosas. No entanto, quando realizada no final do primeiro ciclo ou após o início do segundo ciclo vegetativo, a poda reduz o teor de matéria seca e a produtividade de raízes.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the hemogram in cattle fed crude glycerin. 30 Nellore steers, were used for blood sampling, which were done each 28 days. The animals were confined for 103 days and were fed with five diets containing 0, 7.5, 15, 22.5 and 30% crude glycerin based on dry matter, formulated in a forage:concentrate ratio of 30:70. Corn silage was used as forage and the concentrate was composed by corn grain, soybean hulls, sunflower meal, glycerin, limestone, dicalcium phosphate and salt. The experimental design was a randomized block with five treatments. Orthogonal contrasts were used to determine the linear, quadratic, cubic effects and gliceryn treatments × the control one. There was no treatment effect (P>0,05) on blood concentrations of erythrocytes, hematocrit, basophils, eosinophils, band neutrophils and lymphocytes, but were linearly effect on the concentrations of platelets, hemoglobin and monocytes (P=0.009, P=0.001 and P=0.043, respectivelly), and cubic effect on the concentrations of total leukocytes and segmented neutrophils (P=0.008 and P=0.004, respectivelly). Diets for beef cattle, with forage:concentrate ratio of 30:70 added with crude glycerin promote changes in the erytrhogram and leucogram of these animals.

Recently, there is an interest in technologies that favour the use of coproducts for animal nutrition. The effect of adding two enzyme mixtures in diets for dogs formulated with wheat bran (WB) was evaluated. Two foods with similar compositions were formulated: negative control (NC; without WB) and test diet (25% of WB). The test diet was divided into four treatments: without enzyme (positive control), enzyme mixture 1 (ENZ1; added before extrusion β-glucanase, xylanase, cellulase, glucoamylase, phytase); enzyme mixture 2 (ENZ2; added before extrusion the ENZ1 more α-amylase); enzyme mixture 2 added after the extrusion (ENZ2ex). ENZ1 and ENZ2 were used to evaluate the enzyme effect on extruder pre-conditioner (processing additive) and ENZ2ex to evaluate the effect of enzyme supplementation for the animal. Digestibility was measured through total collection of faeces and urine. The experiment followed a randomized block design with five treatments (diets) and six dogs per diet, totalling 30 dogs (7.0 ± 1.2 years old and 11.0 ± 2.2 kg of body weight). Data were submitted to analysis of variance and means compared by Tukey's test and orthogonal contrasts (p < 0.05). Reducing sugars showed an important reduction after extrusion, suggesting the formation of carbohydrate complexes. The apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, acid-hydrolysed fat and energy was higher in NC than in diets with WB (p < 0.001), without effects of enzyme additions. WB diets resulted in higher faecal production and concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and reduced pH and ammonia concentration (p < 0.01), with no effect of enzyme addition. The enzyme addition did not result in improved digestibility of a diet high in non-starch polysaccharides; however, only ATTD was measured and nutrient fermentation in the large intestine may have interfered with the results obtained.
