A modified DLTS technique is proposed for the direct measurement of capture cross-section of MOS surface states. The nature of temperature and energy dependence σn is inferred from data analysis. Temperature dependence of σn is shown to be consistent with the observed DLTS line shapes.

A deep‐level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) technique is reported for determining the capture crosssection activation energy directly. Conventionally, the capture activation energy is obtained from the temperature dependence of the capture cross section. Capture crosssection measurement is often very doubtful due to many intrinsic errors and is more critical for nonexponential capture kinetics. The essence of this technique is to use an emission pulse to allow the defects to emit electrons and the transient signal from capture process due to a large capture barrier was analyzed, in contrast with the emission signal in conventional DLTS. This technique has been applied for determining the capture barrier for silicon‐related DX centers in AlxGa1−xAs for different AlAs mole fractions.

The fundamental goal of this thesis is the determination of the isospin dependence of the Ar+Ni fusion-evaporation cross section. Three Ar isotope beams, with energies of about 13AMeV, have been accelerated and impinged onto isotopically enriched Ni targets, in order to produce Pd nuclei, with mass number varying from 92 to 104. The measurements have been performed by the high performance 4pi detector INDRA, coupled with the magnetic spectrometer VAMOS. Even if the results are very preliminary, the obtained fusion-evaporation cross sections behaviour gives a hint at the possible isospin dependence of the fusion-evaporation cross sections.

The aim of this work is to provide a precise and accurate measurement of the 238U(n,gamma) reaction cross-section. This reaction is of fundamental importance for the design calculations of nuclear reactors, governing the behaviour of the reactor core. In particular, fast neutron reactors, which are experiencing a growing interest for their ability to burn radioactive waste, operate in the high energy region of the neutron spectrum. In this energy region inconsistencies between the existing measurements are present up to 15%, and the most recent evaluations disagree each other. In addition, the assessment of nuclear data uncertainty performed for innovative reactor systems shows that the uncertainty in the radiative capture cross-section of 238U should be further reduced to 1-3% in the energy region from 20 eV to 25 keV. To this purpose, addressed by the Nuclear Energy Agency as a priority nuclear data need, complementary experiments, one at the GELINA and two at the n_TOF facility, were scheduled within the ANDES project within the 7th Framework Project of the European Commission. The results of one of the 238U(n,gamma) measurement performed at the n_TOF CERN facility are presented in this work, carried out with a detection system constituted of two liquid scintillators. The very accurate cross section from this work is compared with the results obtained from the other measurement performed at the n_TOF facility, which exploit a different and complementary detection technique. The excellent agreement between the two data-sets points out that they can contribute to the reduction of the cross section uncertainty down to the required 1-3%.

A review of the experimental data for natC(n,c) and 12C(n,c) was made to identify the origin of the natC capture cross sections included in evaluated data libraries and to clarify differences observed in neutronic calculations for graphite moderated reactors using different libraries. The performance of the JEFF-3.1.2 and ENDF/B-VII.1 libraries was verified by comparing results of criticality calculations with experimental results obtained for the BR1 reactor. This reactor is an air-cooled reactor with graphite as moderator and is located at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre SCK-CEN in Mol (Belgium). The results of this study confirm conclusions drawn from neutronic calculations of the High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) in Japan. Furthermore, both BR1 and HTTR calculations support the capture cross section of 12C at thermal energy which is recommended by Firestone and Révay. Additional criticality calculations were carried out in order to illustrate that the natC thermal capture cross section is important for systems with a large amount of graphite. The present study shows that only the evaluation carried out for JENDL-4.0 reflects the current status of the experimental data.

Within the dinuclear system (DNS) conception, instead of solving the Fokker-Planck equation (FPE) analytically, the master equation is solved numerically to calculate the fusion probability of super-heavy nuclei, so that the harmonic oscillator approximation to the potential energy of the DNS is avoided. The relative motion concerning the energy, the angular momentum and the fragment deformation relaxations is explicitly treated to couple with the diffusion process. The nucleon transition probabilities, which are derived microscopically, are related with the energy dissipation of the relative motion. Thus they are time dependent. Comparing with the analytical solution of FPE at the equilibrium, our time-dependent results preserve more dynamical effects. The calculated evaporation residue cross-sections for one-neutron emission channel of Pb-based reactions are basically in agreement with the known experimental data within one order of magnitude.

Effects of the nonlocality of factorizable potentials are taken into account in the calculation of nucleus-nucleus fusion cross section through an effective mass approach. This cross section makes use of the tunneling factor calculated for the nonlocal barrier, without the explicit introduction of any result coming from coupled channel calculation, besides the approximations of Hill-Wheeler and Wong. Its new expression embodies the nonlocal effects in a factor which redefines the local potential barrier curvature. Applications to different systems, namely O-16 + Co-59, O-16,O-18 + Ni-58,Ni-60,Ni-64, and O-16,O-18 + Cu-63,Cu-65 are presented, where the nonlocal range is treated as a free parameter.

The shell effect is included in the improved isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model in which the shell correction energy of the system is calculated by using the deformed two-center shell model. A switch function is introduced to connect the shell correction energy of the projectile and the target with that of the compound nucleus during the dynamical fusion process. It is found that the calculated capture cross sections reproduce the experimental data quantitatively at the energy near the Coulomb barrier. The capture cross sections for reaction (35) (80) Br + (82) (208) Pb -> (117) (288) X are also calculated and discussed.

We describe how the method of detection of delayed K x-rays produced by the electron capture decay of the residual nuclei can be a powerful tool in the investigation of the effect of the breakup process on the complete fusion (CF) cross-section of weakly bound nuclei at energies close to the Coulomb barrier. This is presently one of the most interesting subjects under investigation in the field of low-energy nuclear reactions, and the difficult experimental task of separating CF from the incomplete fusion (ICF) of one of the breakup fragments can be achieved by the x-ray spectrometry method. This work is aimed to present the main differences of nuclear data uncertainties among three different nuclear data libraries: EAF-2007, EAF-2010 and SCALE-6.0, under different neutron spectra: LWR, ADS and DEMO (fusion). To take into account the neutron spectrum, the uncertainty data are collapsed to onegroup. That is a simple way to see the differences among libraries for one application. Also, the neutron spectrum effect on different applications can be observed. These comparisons are presented only for (n,fission), (n,gamma) and (n,p) reactions, for the main transuranic isotopes (234,235,236,238U, 237Np, 238,239,240,241Pu, 241,242m,243Am, 242,243,244,245,246,247,248Cm, 249Bk, 249,250,251,252Cf). But also general comparisons among libraries are presented taking into account all included isotopes. In other works, target accuracies are presented for nuclear data uncertainties; here, these targets are compared with uncertainties on the above libraries. The main results of these comparisons are that EAF-2010 has reduced their uncertainties for many isotopes from EAF-2007 for (n,gamma) and (n,fission) but not for (n,p); SCALE-6.0 gives lower uncertainties for (n,fission) reactions for ADS and PWR applications, but gives higher uncertainties for (n,p) reactions in all applications. For the (n,gamma) reaction, the amount of isotopes which have higher uncertainties is quite similar to the amount of isotopes which have lower uncertainties when SCALE-6.0 and EAF-2010 are compared. When the effect of neutron spectra is analysed, the ADS neutron spectrum obtained the highest uncertainties for (n,gamma) and (n,fission) reactions of all libraries.
