Este estudo analiza como Manuel Rivas aproveita a ambigüidade do concepto de estereotipo para crear una identidade cultural galega. En Unha espía no Reino de Galicia (2004), Rivas propón que a imaxe paródica do galego e o conxunto de trazos estereotipados que se lle asignan non son un elemento alleo a cultura galega, senón que é un trazo integral da dialéctica da súa identidade nacional. Desta maneira, ó feito diferencial galego, ademais da lingua, a unidade territorial, o celtismo, ou a emigración, habería que engadir a capacidade do galego de parodiar o seu propio discurso nacional.

Age effects, unobserved characteristics and hedonic price indexes: The Spanish car market in the 1990s

This paper computes and compares alternative quality-adjusted price indexes for new cars in Spain in the period 1990-2000. The proposed hedonic approach simultaneously controls for time-invariant unobserved product e¤ects and time-variant unobserved quality changes, that are assumed to be captured by model age effects. The results show that the non-adjusted price index largely overstates the increase in the cost of living induced by changes in car prices and that previous evidence for this market have not measured the real extent of that bias, probably due to the omission of controls for unobservables. It is also shown that omitting age effects can also lead to misleading conclusions. The estimated price indexes give also some insights on what could have been the determinants of price evolution in the Spanish car market.

Multi-stage oligopoly models with nested logit demand structures: A simplifying approach

Solving multi-stage oligopoly models by backward induction can easily become a com- plex task when rms are multi-product and demands are derived from a nested logit frame- work. This paper shows that under the assumption that within-segment rm shares are equal across segments, the analytical expression for equilibrium pro ts can be substantially simpli ed. The size of the error arising when this condition does not hold perfectly is also computed. Through numerical examples, it is shown that the error is rather small in general. Therefore, using this assumption allows to gain analytical tractability in a class of models that has been used to approach relevant policy questions, such as for example rm entry in an industry or the relation between competition and location. The simplifying approach proposed in this paper is aimed at helping improving these type of models for reaching more accurate recommendations.

Profitability, uncertainty and multi-product firm product proliferation: The Spanish car industry

This article studies how product introduction decisions relate to profitability and uncertainty in the context of multi-product firms and product differentiation. These two features, common to many modern industries, have not received much attention in the literature as compared to the classical problem of firm entry, even if the determinants of firm and product entry are quite different. The theoretical predictions about the sign of the impact of uncertainty on product entry are not conclusive. Therefore, an econometric model relating firms’ product introduction decisions with profitability and profit uncertainty is proposed. Firm’s estimated profits are obtained from a structural model of product demand and supply, and uncertainty is proxied by profits’ variance. The empirical analysis is carried out using data on the Spanish car industry for the period 1990-2000. The results show a positive relationship between product introduction and profitability, and a negative one with respect to profit variability. Interestingly, the degree of uncertainty appears to be a driving force of entry stronger than profitability, suggesting that the product proliferation process in the Spanish car market may have been mainly a consequence of lower uncertainty rather than the result of having a more profitable market. En 1865 Narcisa Pérez Reoyo publica en A Coruña su primer poemario, Cantos de la infancia, prologado por Manuel Murguía y que incluye un poema dedicado a Rosalía de Castro. Este artículo se ocupa de las relaciones del matrimonio Murguía-Castro con la escritora novel, en el contexto de la literatura escrita por mujeres en el siglo XIX y de la construcción de la literatura gallega.

Análise dos indicadores bacterianos de poluição dos rios Anil e Bacanga, na Ilha de São Luís, Estado do Maranhão, Brasil

Para o conhecimento do estado de poluição bacteriológica dos rios Anil e Bacanga, Estado do Maranhão (Brasil), coletaram-se amostras de água em 5 pontos, no Rio Anil, e 3 pontos, no Rio Bacanga, mensalmente, durante 12 meses, nas fases enchente e vazante da maré. Foram determinados números de bactérias totais/ml; índice de coliformes/100ml e índice de coliformes fecais/100ml, em ágar simples, caldo lactosado, verde brilhante - bile e E. C. Os resultados mostraram que os índices bacterianos de poluição dos rios sofrem variações sazonais, diretamente relacionadas às fases da maré. As localidades que apresentaram maiores concentrações bacterianas foram as nascentes. As águas destes rios, de acordo com o padrão ditado pelo Ministério do Interior, demonstraram alto grau de poluição microbiana de origem fecal.

O projecto “Principais tendências no cinema português contemporâneo” nasceu no Departamento de Cinema da ESTC, com o objectivo de desenvolver investigação especializada a partir de um núcleo formado por alunos da Licenciatura em Cinema e do Mestrado em Desenvolvimento de Projecto Cinematográfico, a que se juntaram professores-investigadores membros do CIAC e convidados. O que agora se divulga corresponde a dois anos e meio de trabalho desenvolvido pela equipa de investigação, entre Abril de 2009 e Novembro de 2011. Dada a forma que ele foi adquirindo, preferimos renomeá-lo, para efeitos de divulgação, “Novas & velhas tendências no cinema português contemporâneo”.

Características da gravidez na adolescência em São Luís, Maranhão

OBJETIVO: Identificar as principais características socioeconômicas, demográficas, antropométricas e comportamentais, bem como os resultados perinatais da gravidez na adolescência. Conhecer os tipos de serviços de saúde utilizados pelas gestantes adolescentes. MÉTODOS: A amostra de 2.429 partos de mulheres residentes em São Luís, MA, abrangeu 94% dos nascimentos hospitalares. As mulheres foram separadas em seis grupos de idade para melhor avaliação do comportamento das variáveis entre os dois grupos de adolescentes (abaixo de 18 anos; 18 a 19 anos) e entre as adolescentes e as demais mulheres. O teste do qui-quadrado foi utilizado para a comparação de proporções e a razão de prevalências foi empregada como medida de efeito. RESULTADOS: Das 2.429 mulheres, 714 eram adolescentes (29,4%). Seu coeficiente específico de fecundidade, 72,2 por mil, foi mais elevado que em outras regiões do País. As adolescentes apresentaram piores condições socioeconômicas e reprodutivas que as demais mulheres, maior proporção de pré-natal inadequado (39,2%) e muitas não tinham companheiro (34,5%). Por outro lado, tiveram menor proporção de parto cesáreo (23,0%) e de fumantes (3.5%). CONCLUSÕES: Apesar da situação socioeconômica igualmente desfavorável, as adolescentes de 18 a 19 anos apresentaram resultados perinatais semelhantes às mulheres de 25 a 29 anos. Já as menores de 18 anos tiveram maiores proporções de filhos com baixo peso ao nascer, prematuros e com maior risco de mortalidade infantil. Isto sugere que a imaturidade biológica possa estar associada a maiores taxas de prematuridade, baixo peso ao nascer e mortalidade infantil.
