Tumor induced angiogenesis processes including the effect of stochastic motion and branching of blood vessels can be described coupling a (nonlocal in time) integrodifferential kinetic equation of Fokker–Planck type with a diffusion equation for the tumor induced ingiogenic factor. The chemotactic force field depends on the flux of blood vessels through the angiogenic factor. We develop an existence and uniqueness theory for this system under natural assumptions on the initial data. The proof combines the construction of fundamental solutions for associated linearized problems with comparison principles, sharp estimates of the velocity integrals and compactness results for this type of kinetic and parabolic operators

We discuss the well-posedness of a mathematical model that is used in the literature for the simulation of lithium-ion batteries. First, a mathematical model based on a macrohomogeneous approach is presented, following previous work. Then it is shown, from a physical and a mathematical point of view, that a boundary condition widely used in the literature is not correct. Although the errors could be just sign typos (which can be explained as carelessness in the use of d/dx versus d/dn, with n the outward unit vector) and authors using this model probably use the correct boundary condition when they solve it in order to do simulations, readers should be aware of the right choice. Therefore, the deduction of the correct boundary condition is done here, and a mathematical study of the well-posedness of the corresponding problem is presented.

Целта ни е да установим локалното и глобално съществуване на решенията, както и коректност на задачата на Коши в достатъчно малка околност на нулата в пространството L^2 (R^n). Като естествено следствие на глобалните резултати ние доказваме съществуване на оператор на разсейване за малки начални условия.

Picric acid possesses the property, which is rare among strong electrolytes, of having a convenient distribution ratio between water and certain organic solvents such as benzene, chloroform, etc. Because of this property, picric acid offers peculiar advantages for studying the well known deviations of strong electrolytes from the law of mass action, for; by means of distribution experiments, the activities of picric acid in various aqueous solutions may be compared.

In order to interpret the results of such distribution experiments, it is necessary to know the degree of ionization of picric acid in aqueous solutions.

At least three series of determinations of the equivalent conductance of picric acid have been published, but the results are not concordant; and therefore, the degree of ionization cannot be calculated with any degree of certainty.

The object of the present investigation was to redetermine the conductance of picric acid solutions in order to obtain satisfactory data from which the degrees of ionization of its solutions might be calculated.

These three papers describe an approach to the synthesis of solutions to a class of mechanical design problems; these involve transmission and transformation of mechanical forces and motion, and can be described by a set of inputs and outputs. The approach involves (1) identifying a set of primary functional elements and rules of combining them, and (2) developing appropriate representations and reasoning procedures for synthesising solution concepts using these elements and their combination rules; these synthesis procedures can produce an exhaustive set of solution concepts, in terms of their topological as well as spatial configurations, to a given design problem. This paper (Part III) describes a constraint propagation procedure which, using a knowledge base of spatial information about a set of primary functional elements, can produce possible spatial configurations of solution concepts generated in Part II.

Characteristics of shiftwork schedules have implications for off-shift well-being. We examined the extent to which several shift characteristics (e.g., shift length, working sundays) are associated with three aspects of off-shift well-being: work-to-family conflict, physical well-being, and mental wellbeing. We also investigated whether these relationships differed in four nations. The Survey of Work and Time was completed by 906 healthcare professionals located in Australia, Brazil, Croatia, and the USA. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses supported the hypothesis that shiftwork characteristics account for significant unique variance in all three measures of well-being beyond that accounted for by work and family demands and personal characteristics. The patterns of regression weights indicated that particular shiftwork characteristics have differential relevance to indices of work-to-family conflict, physical well-being, and mental well-being. Our findings suggest that healthcare organizations should carefully consider the implications of shiftwork characteristics for off-shift well-being. Furthermore, although our findings did not indicate national differences in the nature of relationships between shift characteristics and well-being, shiftwork characteristics and demographics for healthcare professionals differ in systematic ways among nations; as such, effective solutions may be context-specific. Using recent results on the compactness of the space of solutions of the Yamabe problem, we show that in conformal classes of metrics near the class of a nondegenerate solution which is unique (up to scaling) the Yamabe problem has a unique solution as well. This provides examples of a local extension, in the space of conformal classes, of a well-known uniqueness criterion due to Obata.

We consider the heat flux through a domain with subregions in which the thermal capacity approaches zero. In these subregions the parabolic heat equation degenerates to an elliptic one. We show the well-posedness of such parabolic-elliptic differential equations for general non-negative L-infinity-capacities and study the continuity of the solutions with respect to the capacity, thus giving a rigorous justification for modeling a small thermal capacity by setting it to zero. We also characterize weak directional derivatives of the temperature with respect to capacity as solutions of related parabolic-elliptic problems.

In this article on quasidifferential equation with non-fixed time of impulses we consider the continuous dependence of the solutions on the initial conditions as well as the mappings defined by these equations. We prove general theorems for quasidifferential equations from which follows corresponding results for differential equations, differential inclusion and equations with Hukuhara derivative.
