Behaviors found in every culture, general human tendencies, are knew in Evolutionary Psychology as evolved psychological mechanisms. Those behaviors date back the Environment of Evolutionary Adaptedness, and a well know example of such behavior is the group bias (or intergroup bias). This bias consists of recognizing members of your own group and favor them, while disregarding or even harming outsiders. This behavior was and still is extensively studies, among the most important conclusions about this phenomenon is the Minimal Groups Paradigm, in which it was discovered that the group bias could trigger even when the groupings were done in following very arbitrary criteria. In the current study, our goal was to test if the participants, when playing an economic game, would behave in a similar fashion under a minimal group situation and real groups, with social meaning. With this in mind we made two experimental conditions, a Low Social Meaning one (LSM) where the groups were represented by letters (H, B, O and Y) in which participants would be ramdomly assorted to each group; and the High Social Meaning condition (HSM) in which religion was used as a group marker, containing the two most dominating religious groups in Brazil, catholic and evangelic, another group containing all the other affiliations e the fourth and last group representing atheists and agnostics. The ratio of donations in-group/out-group was roughly the same across both conditions. However, the amount of wafers donated to ingroup was significantly bigger in the HSM condition. By verifying which aspects of the individual best predicted the observed group bias, we discovered that the in-group Entitativity perception as well as the Group Identification were the most relevant variables, however, only in the HSM condition. Simultaneously, by verifying the generosity, biased or not, we observed that the agreeableness personality factor was the only variable able to predict it, and only in the LSM condition. We conclude that our generosity, or the lack of it, is for most part defined by our personality, the Agreeableness factor in particular. But this very generosity can be biased by the social meaning of the involved groups and that, if the social meaning is big enough, even people who, thanks to their personality, normally wouldn’t show generosity, are able to do so when the receiver is an in-group member.

Com a institui????o do Programa de Apoio ao Plano de Reestrutura????o e Expans??o das Universidades Federais (Reuni), o governo federal tenta criar condi????es para ampliar o acesso e a perman??ncia dos estudantes na educa????o superior. Nesse contexto, esta pesquisa objetiva investigar a percep????o dos estudantes dos dez centros acad??micos da Universidade Federal do Cear?? (UFC), regularmente matriculados no 2?? semestre de 2008, em rela????o ao Reuni e ?? proposta de ades??o da UFC ao mencionado programa, a partir de uma perspectiva mercadol??gica. Para a determina????o da amostra de entrevistados foi utilizada a f??rmula de Cochran, para popula????es finitas, e amostras aleat??rias estratificadas, resultando em uma amostra de 378 estudantes para um n??vel de confian??a de 95%. Foram utilizadas vari??veis que influenciam o comportamento do p??blico-alvo, tais como renda, grupo social e idade, com foco no marketing educacional. Trata-se de uma pesquisa quantitativa quanto ?? sua natureza, descritiva quanto aos fins e realizada mediante survey. Constatou-se grande desconhecimento sobre o Reuni ??? 50,5% dos entrevistados nunca ouviram falar sobre o programa. Percebeu-se ainda que os estudantes que possuem uma atitude negativa sobre o Reuni aprovam o conte??do da proposta da UFC, da mesma maneira que os estudantes que n??o possuem essa atitude.

En el mundo existen ciertos grupos de población que muestran una hipersensibilidad a determinados alimentos, y cuya ingestión accidental desencadena, una respuesta del tipo “shock” anafiláctico. Esto ha obligado a las empresas alimentarias a estudiar de forma exhaustiva la gestión del riesgo de todos sus productos. El cacahuete es uno de los principales alérgenos en la industria. La espectroscopia NIR se ha utilizado recientemente para analizar la cantidad total de aceite y ácido grasos en cacahuete intacto (Sudaram y colaboradores, 2012). El objetivo de este trabajo es estudiar métodos no destructivos basados en espectroscopia para la detección de trazas de cacahuete en alimentos en polvo, como complemento al método genético reacción en cadena de la polimerasa en tiempo real (Real Time -PCR) desarrollado por el grupo de investigación TRADETBIO de la UCM, en el marco de colaboración en el Campus de Excelencia Internacional Moncloa. Los materiales utilizados fueron cacahuetes de cinco variedades de origen geográfico distinto y sometidas a diferentes tratamientos, proporcionadas por el Instituto de Materiales de Referencia CE, así como leche en polvo, cacao, harina de trigo, y cacahuete de diferentes marcas comerciales. Para todos ellos, se adquirieron dos series de espectros: en el infrarrojo cercano NIR (896-1686 nm), y los extraídos de imágenes hiperespectrales HIS (400-1000nm). La espectroscopia VIS se mostró sensible a las diferencias en el cacahuete en cuanto a su origen y/o tratamiento, ya que inducen cambios en el color, siendo inviable la separación entre los cacahuetes blanqueados, la leche y la harina en esta región espectral. Las principales diferencias entre los cacahuetes y el resto de ingredientes alimentarios se han encontrado en el rango NIR, específicamente en las longitudes de onda de (1207-1210 nm), relacionadas con una región de absorción de los lípidos. El infrarrojo permite 100% de segregación de cualquier tipo de cacahuete respecto al resto de los ingredientes alimentarios. La espectroscopia NIR combinada con las técnicas de imagen (hiperespectral o multiespectral) podría por tanto, ser aplicado para detectar trazas de cacahuetes en alimentos en polvo, no influyendo su origen y/o tratamiento, ya que es capaz de separar cualquier cacahuete del resto de los ingredientes alimentarios. Este método podría ser una técnica de cribado previo al método PCR de elevado coste.

It is well known that long term use of shampoo causes damage to human hair. Although the Lowry method has been widely used to quantify hair damage, it is unsuitable to determine this in the presence of some surfactants and there is no other method proposed in literature. In this work, a different method is used to investigate and compare the hair damage induced by four types of surfactants (including three commercial-grade surfactants) and water. Hair samples were immersed in aqueous solution of surfactants under conditions that resemble a shower (38 °C, constant shaking). These solutions become colored with time of contact with hair and its UV-vis spectra were recorded. For comparison, the amount of extracted proteins from hair by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and by water were estimated by the Lowry method. Additionally, non-pigmented vs. pigmented hair and also sepia melanin were used to understand the washing solution color and their spectra. The results presented herein show that hair degradation is mostly caused by the extraction of proteins, cuticle fragments and melanin granules from hair fiber. It was found that the intensity of solution color varies with the charge density of the surfactants. Furthermore, the intensity of solution color can be correlated to the amount of proteins quantified by the Lowry method as well as to the degree of hair damage. UV-vis spectrum of hair washing solutions is a simple and straightforward method to quantify and compare hair damages induced by different commercial surfactants.
