Foram utilizados como elemento principal de estudo, os efluentes líquidos dos processos industriais da ENDUTEX, Tinturaria e Acabamento de Malhas, S. A. localizada no município de Caldas de Vizela, distrito de Braga. O estudo foi realizado na empresa devido ao interesse da mesma em poder reaproveitar o calor libertado nos efluentes para aquecimento de parte da água captada no rio de Vizela. O objectivo do trabalho consiste no dimensionamento de um permutador de calor que permita satisfazer o interesse da empresa, assim como, um estudo económico relativo aos custos envolventes. Com o intuito de concretizar os objectivos propostos foram realizadas visitas semanais à empresa para se proceder ao levantamento de dados e para a realização de amostragens do efluente para posterior caracterização. Depois de efectuado o dimensionamento do permutador de placas para diferentes caudais e temperaturas dos fluidos, frio (água do rio) e quente (efluentes), concluiu-se que as condições mais rentáveis correspondiam a um caudal de fluido frio de 17 m3/h em que a temperatura de entrada e de saída no permutador seria de 14 ºC e 48 ºC, respectivamente. O caudal de fluido quente seria de 20 m3/h, sendo a temperatura de entrada e de saída no permutador de 62 ºC e 33,1 ºC, respectivamente. Como resultado do dimensionamento obteve-se um permutador de placas com 167 placas em que o coeficiente global de transferência de calor (U) é de 726,9 W/m2ºC, a área projectada de 55,7 m2 e a queda de pressão de 0,904 KPa. Foi consultada a empresa ARSOPI-THERMAL para verificação das características dos permutadores existentes no mercado. No entanto, para as mesmas condições foi sugerido um permutador com 31 placas em que o coeficiente global de transferência de calor (U) é de 6267 W/m2ºC, a área projectada de 7,39 m2 e a queda de pressão de 76 KPa. A diferença verificada nos resultados apresentados pode ter origem na utilização de diferentes expressões no cálculo do coeficiente pelicular de transferência de calor (h) e pelo facto da ARSOPI desprezar o factor de sujamento no seu dimensionamento Na análise económica do projecto é de referir que para o arranque do projecto foi feito o levantamento das necessidades de investimento, situando-se este num valor total de 9640€, sendo o investimento financiado apenas por capitais próprios. O prazo de recuperação do investimento (Pay Back Period) é de cerca de 2 meses.

Requirements-relatedissues have been found the third most important risk factor in software projects and as the biggest reason for software project failures. This is not a surprise since; requirements engineering (RE) practices have been reported deficient inmore than 75% of all; enterprises. A problem analysis on small and low maturitysoftware organizations revealed two; central reasons for not starting process improvement efforts: lack of resources and uncertainty; about process improvementeffort paybacks.; In the constructive part of the study a basic RE method, BaRE, was developed to provide an; easy to adopt way to introduce basic systematic RE practices in small and low maturity; organizations. Based on diffusion of innovations literature, thirteen desirable characteristics; were identified for the solution and the method was implemented in five key components:; requirements document template, requirements development practices, requirements; management practices, tool support for requirements management, and training.; The empirical evaluation of the BaRE method was conducted in three industrial case studies. In; this evaluation, two companies established a completely new RE infrastructure following the; suggested practices while the third company conducted continued requirements document; template development based on the provided template and used it extensively in practice. The; real benefits of the adoption of the method were visible in the companies in four to six months; from the start of the evaluation project, and the two small companies in the project completed; their improvement efforts with an input equal to about one person month. The collected dataon; the case studies indicates that the companies implemented new practices with little adaptations; and little effort. Thus it can be concluded that the constructed BaRE method is indeed easy to; adopt and it can help introduce basic systematic RE practices in small organizations.

Tutkielman tavoitteena on syventää käsitystä yrittäjäksi ryhtymisestä ja siihen vaikuttavista tekijöistä. Tutkielmassa on tutkittu yrittäjyyttä, yrittäjäksi ryhtymisen prosessia ja yrittäjäkoulutusta. Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan yrittäjäkurssin käyneitä henkilöitä, joista osa on perustanut yrityksen, mutta osa luopunut yrittäjyysintentiostaan yrittäjäksi ryhtymisen prosessin aikana. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan laadullinen. Tutkielmassa on teemahaastatteluilla selvitetty, minkälainen on yrittäjäksi ryhtyvän päätöksentekoprosessi, mitkä tekijät korostuvat päätöksentekoprosessissa yrittäjäksi ryhtyneillä ja aiotusta yrittäjyydestä luopuneilla, sekä mikä on ollut koulutuksen vaikutus yrittäjyysprosessissa. Tutkimuksessa on haastateltu yhtätoista Lappeenrannan seudun Yrittäjyysprojektin yrittäjäkurssin käynyttä henkilöä. Näiden haastatteluiden pohjalta on luotu tarinat jokaisesta henkilöstä. Päätöksentekoprosessit vaihtelivat tapauskohtaisesti sekä ajan että intensiteetin suhteen. Haastatelluista yrittäjiksi ryhtyneillä korostuivat tilannetekijät, kuten työttömyys ja työtyytymättömyys yrittäjyyteen ajaneina tekijöinä. Henkilötekijöistä esille nousivat sisäisen hallinnan tunne ja suoriutumisen tarve. Yrittäjäkurssilla koettiin olevan tiedonsaannin kannalta suuri merkitys.

We investigate the gas-particle dynamics of a device designed for biological pre-clinical experiments. The device uses transonic/supersonic gas flow to accelerate microparticles such that they penetrate the outer skin layers. By using a shock tube coupled to a correctly expanded nozzle, a quasi-one-dimensional, quasi-steady flow (QSF) is produced to uniformly accelerate the microparticles. The system utilises a microparticle cassette (a diaphragm sealed container) that incorporates a jet mixing mechanism to stir the particles prior to diaphragm rupture. Pressure measurements reveal that a QSF exit period - suitable for uniformly accelerating microparticles - exists between 155 and 220 mus after diaphragm rupture. Immediately preceding the QSF period, a starting process secondary shock was shown to form with its (x,t) trajectory comparing well to theoretical estimates. To characterise the microparticle, flow particle image velocimetry experiments were conducted at the nozzle exit, using particle payloads with varying diameter (2.7-48 mu m), density (600-16,800 kg/m(3)) and mass (0.25-10 mg). The resultant microparticle velocities were temporally uniform. The experiments also show that the starting process does not significantly influence the microparticle nozzle exit velocities. Undoped and indium-doped Zinc oxide (ZnO) solid films were deposited by the pyrosol process at 450 degrees C on glass substrates From solutions where In/Zn ratio was 2, 5, and 10 at.%. Electrical measurements performed at room temperature show that the addition of indium changes the resistance of the films. The resistivities of doped films are less than non-doped ZnO films by one to two orders of magnitude depending on the dopant concentration in the solution. Preferential orientation of the films with the c-axis perpendicular to the substrate was detected by X-ray diffraction and polarized extended X-ray absorption fine structures measurements at the Zn K edge. This orientation depends on the indium concentration in the starting solution. The most textured films were obtained for solutions where In/Zn ratio was 2 and 5 at.%. When In/Zn = 10 at.%, the films had a nearly random orientation of crystallites. Evidence of the incorporation of indium in the ZnO lattice was obtained from extended X-ray absorption fine structures at the In and Zn K edges. Many students are inspired to start their own business venture after taking some courses in school or simply just taking an idea and turning it into a business. The beginning process is usually most difficult in terms of establishing a functioning business, getting the right connections, and avoiding discouragement to follow through with the business. That is why many businesses fall into the categories of starting, failing along the process, or failing to get started. There is a lot to be learned from the process of starting a business venture. In addressing this issue, some of the questions this research study aims to explore and study are how people go about their new venture efforts? Second, what steps they undertake? Third, from whom do they get information? And fourth, how do they use that information? This study will seek a variety of insights that can help answer these questions and improve our understanding of why some businesses fail, succeed, or never get started.

An important consideration in the development of mathematical models for dynamic simulation, is the identification of the appropriate mathematical structure. By building models with an efficient structure which is devoid of redundancy, it is possible to create simple, accurate and functional models. This leads not only to efficient simulation, but to a deeper understanding of the important dynamic relationships within the process. In this paper, a method is proposed for systematic model development for startup and shutdown simulation which is based on the identification of the essential process structure. The key tool in this analysis is the method of nonlinear perturbations for structural identification and model reduction. Starting from a detailed mathematical process description both singular and regular structural perturbations are detected. These techniques are then used to give insight into the system structure and where appropriate to eliminate superfluous model equations or reduce them to other forms. This process retains the ability to interpret the reduced order model in terms of the physico-chemical phenomena. Using this model reduction technique it is possible to attribute observable dynamics to particular unit operations within the process. This relationship then highlights the unit operations which must be accurately modelled in order to develop a robust plant model. The technique generates detailed insight into the dynamic structure of the models providing a basis for system re-design and dynamic analysis. Aims: Cisplatin (CP) promotes increased production of reactive oxygen species, which can activate p38 mitogen activated protein kinases (p38 MAPKs) leading to apoptosis and increased expression of proinflammatory mediators that intensify the cytotoxic effects of CP. We investigated the effect of the treatment with S13203580, a p38 MAPKs inhibitor, on oxidative stress, on the oxidation-associated signal, p38 MAPK and on apoptosis in U-injected rats, starting after the beginning of the renal damage. Main methods: Rats (n = 21) were injected with CP (5 mg/kg, i.p.) and 3 and 4 days after some of them (n = 8) were treated with SB203580 (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.). Controls (n = 6) received saline (i.p.). Two or five days after saline or CP injections, plasma creatinine, urinary volume, sodium and potassium fractional excretions, blood urea nitrogen and urinary lipid peroxidation were measured. The kidneys were removed for histological, apoptosis, immunohistochemical and Western blot studies. Key findings: CP caused abnormalities in kidney functions and structure associated with raised urinary peroxidation levels and higher number of apoptotic cells in the outer medulla. The immunostaining studies showed increased numbers of macrophages/monocytes and p-p38 MAPKs positive cells in the renal outer medulla. The increase of p-p38 MAPKs expression was confirmed by Western blot analysis. All of these alterations were attenuated by treatment with S13203580. Significance: These data suggest that the beneficial effect of SB203580 on CP-induced renal damage might be related, in part, to the blockade of p38 MAPK activation with reduction of the inflammatory process, oxidative stress and apoptotic cell death. We study the minimum mean square error (MMSE) and the multiuser efficiency η of large dynamic multiple access communication systems in which optimal multiuser detection is performed at the receiver as the number and the identities of active users is allowed to change at each transmission time. The system dynamics are ruled by a Markov model describing the evolution of the channel occupancy and a large-system analysis is performed when the number of observations grow large. Starting on the equivalent scalar channel and the fixed-point equation tying multiuser efficiency and MMSE, we extend it to the case of a dynamic channel, and derive lower and upper bounds for the MMSE (and, thus, for η as well) holding true in the limit of large signal–to–noise ratios and increasingly large observation time T.
