Stéréotypes et auto-exotisme : les représentations de la sexualité de l'homme noir chez René Depestre et Dany Laferrière

Ce mémoire fait appel aux notions de stéréotype (tel que théorisé par Ruth Amossy, Jean- Louis Dufays et Mireille Rosello) et d’auto-exotisme (défini par Nathalie Schon) afin d’étudier les représentations de la sexualité de l’homme noir dans Alléluia pour une femme-jardin de René Depestre et La chair du maître de Dany Laferrière. Le stéréotype et l’exotisme, tous deux tributaires d’une vision de l’autre généralisante, superficielle et éphémère, nous intéressent dans la mesure où ils sont employés de façon auto-référentielle par ces auteurs d’origine haïtienne, qui mettent en scène des protagonistes noirs correspondant souvent au stéréotype du Noir hyper-sexuel, qui est pourtant issu de fantasmagories coloniales avilissantes. Dans le cadre de cette recherche, nous analysons les différentes postures de la sexualité masculine dans les œuvres susmentionnées afin d’y révéler un emploi varié des stéréotypes, tantôt reconduits, tantôt déplacés, voire rendus désuets ou incertains, grâce à diverses stratégies textuelles comme l’humour, l’ironie, l’exagération ou l’omission. Ce faisant, nous remarquons que l’usage complexe des stéréotypes, chez Depestre et Laferrière, quoi qu’il fasse appel aux mêmes tropes, dénote différents moyens de négocier avec sa propre « étrangeté ».

How to be masculine in the block area

This article focuses on the social interactions of several boys aged 3-5 years in the block area of a preschool classroom in a childcare setting. Using transcripts of video segments showing these boys engaged in daily play and interactions, the article analyses two episodes that occurred in the first weeks of the school year. At first glance, both episodes appear chaotic, with little appearance of order among the players. A closer analysis reveals a finely organized play taking place, with older boys teaching important lessons to the newcomers about how to be masculine in the block area. These episodes illustrate that masculinity is not a fixed character trait, but is determined through practice and participation in the activities of masculinity. Play and conflict are the avenues through which this occurs.

Lições do desejo: o fetiche pelas colegiais em um estudo sobre a pornificação do imaginário sexual masculino

Vestidas de azul e branco, de saia plissada xadrez, de minissaia jeans, meias , sapato boneca ou tênis, as colegiais transitam no imaginário social (nacional) com, no mínimo, cinco décadas de existência como clichê sexual, estereótipo revisitado e diluído na bacia semântica da imaginação erótica de nossa contemporaneidade. Neste trabalho, as colegiais podem ser ninfetas, adolescentes, estudantes do ensino secundário ou universitárias, alunas de internatos, normalistas dos intitutos de educação e até prostitutas disfarçadas. A nossa proposta será analisar a representação ficcional da colegial principalmente em textos e imagens das Histórias em Quadrinhos adultas nacionais, focando seu registro em uma dimensão pornográfica. A análise das fontes documentais que utilizaremos Quadrinhos adultos de diversos autores dos anos de 1950 e 60, e que reapareceram nos anos 1980 e 1990 será tecida aqui de forma a apontar ilhas de edição da imaginação sexual masculina brasileira; através de uma análise psicológica, histórica e cultural do imaginário social que as configurou e que paralelamente foi configurado por elas. Esta análise abrangerá tanto os conteúdos das histórias em quadrinhos adultas, a mensagem visual contida neles, quanto os discursos exteriores com os quais as mensagens desses quadrinho se articulam. Ainda nos dias de hoje, altamente erotizadas nas diversas esferas sociais: quer na vida real, quer na ficcional, seja na tevê, na música ou no cinema, nas revistas, em filmes pornôs ou não, as colegiais figuram como arquétipo da jovem inocente e sedutora que tem algo a aprender ou a ensinar - com o desejo masculino... A compreensão deste processo é o mote para o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa.

An analysis of masculine and feminine writings in postings within a series of health and social care online undergraduate courses

This study aims to extend understanding of pedagogic dialogue by analysing the effect that the gender of the student has on interaction within a selection of ordinary health and social care on line courses.

The Masculine Habitus as 'Distributed Cognition': A Case Study of 5- to 6-Year-Old Boys in an English Inner-City, Multi-Ethnic Primary School

This article provides a case study demonstrating the active role that 5- to 6-year-old boys in an English inner-city, multi-ethnic primary school play in the appropriation and reproduction of their masculine identities. It is argued that the emphasis on physicality, violence and racism found among the boys cannot be understood without reference to the immediate contexts of the local community and the school within which they are located. In making this argument the article draws upon and applies the concept of the habitus and develops this with the notion of 'distributed cognition' as proposed in sociocultural theory. Some of the implications of this analysis for working with boys in early years settings are discussed in the conclusion.

Racism, masculine peer-group relations and the schooling of African/Caribbean infant boys

The past decade has witnessed the publication of a growing number of important ethnographic studies investigating the schooling experiences of Black students. Their focus has largely been upon student-teacher relations during the students' last few years of compulsory schooling. What they have highlighted is the complexity of racism and the varied nature of Black students' experiences of schooling. Drawing upon data from a year-long ethnographic study of an inner-city, multi-ethnic primary school, this paper aims to compliment these studies in two ways. Firstly the paper will broaden the focus to examine how student peer-group relations play an integral role, within the context of student-teacher relations, in shaping many Black students' schooling experiences. By focussing on African/Caribbean infant boys, it will be shown how student-teacher relations on the one hand, and peer-group relations on the other, form a continuous feed-back loop; the products of each tending to exacerbate and inflate the other. Secondly, by concentrating on infant children, the paper will assess the extent to which these resultant processes and practices are also evident for Black pupils at the beginning of their school careers - at the ages of five and six.

Doing feminist research in a masculine paradigm

This paper aims to do three things; firstly the authors will present a case for their argument that marketing can be viewed as a masculine paradigm, secondly a critical perspective of traditional research methodologies within marketing and consumer research will be developed and, finally, the authors will share their own experiences of adopting alternative approaches and engaging in research reflexivity.

La représentation de la masculinité dans les vidéoclips de musique populaire : le code visuel et l’expression de la vulnérabilité masculine

Ce mémoire propose d’étudier les représentations de la masculinité dans les vidéoclips de musique populaire. Il consiste plus précisément en une analyse textuelle de vidéoclips suivant l’approche sémiologique. La représentation y est entendue comme un processus d’attribution de sens, agissant dans la construction sociale de la masculinité. Selon une méthode qualitative, il est premièrement question de cerner et, ultérieurement, explorer les principaux schémas de la masculinité dans un corpus de 29 vidéoclips sélectionné auprès de la chaîne québécoise Musique Plus. L’observation des codes visuels est centrale à cette entreprise, l’articulation de ces derniers permettant la prolifération d’expressions du genre masculin. Partant du point de vue que des attributs, notamment la force et l’invulnérabilité, apparaissent comme typiquement masculins au sein de certaines représentations, il sera question de confronter cette idée aux trois scénarios majeurs ayant émané du corpus ; l’homme-enfant, l’introspectif et le meneur, indiquant tous trois la récente montée des représentations d’une masculinité vulnérable en musique populaire. Les constats qui résulteront de cette exploration seront finalement recadrés dans l’actuel cadre social, où le masculin et le féminin sont de moins en moins enclos dans les moules traditionnels et tendent à se redéfinir sur une nouvelle matrice.
