The general procedure for synthesizing the rack and pinion mechanism up to seven precision conditions is developed. To illustrate the method, the mechanism has been synthesized in closed form for three precision conditions of path generation, two positions of function generation, and a velocity condition at one of the precision points. This mechanism has a number of advantages over conventional four bar mechanisms. First, since the rack is always tangent to the pinion, the transmission angle is always 90 deg minus the pressure angle of the rack. Second, with both translation and rotation of the rock occurring, multiple outputs are available. Other advantages include the generation of monotonic functions for a wide variety of motion and nonmonotonic functions for a full range of motion as well as nonlinear amplified motions. In this work the mechanism is made to satisfy a number of amplified motions. In this work the mechanism is made to satisfy a number of practical design requirements such as completely rotatable input crank and others. By including the velocity specification, the designer has considerably more control of the output motion. The method of solution developed in this work uses the complex number method of mechanism synthesis. A numerical example is included

In this work, prospect and feasibility of power generation by using speed breakers has been investigated. In this project a mechanism to generate power by converting the potential energy generated by a vehicle going up on a speed breaker into kinetic energy. This arrangement is made one rotation as soon as the vehicle moves over the speed breaker and has been increased using gears. After the production electricity, a storing unit has been used to hoard the generated electricity during the day and will be used during the night. Two prototypes have made using rack and pinion gear, spur gear, springs and generator .From which a considerable amount of energy is obtained. Nonetheless the cost of the prototype was inexpensive which proves the feasibility of this project and the idea can be applied on heavy traffic roads. Further investigation is being carried on to introduce the technology for practical approach.

The aim of the project was to design in Solidworks and improve an existing Tire inspection machine. The project was developed in Gislotica - Mechanical Solutions, guided by ing. Rui Manuel Fazenda Silva who is a professor in ISEP. The designed device relates to the inspection of automobile tires for holes and weak places caused by punctures and usage. Such inspection includes careful examination of the inside surface of the tire which is difficult because of its cylindrical shape, stiff and resistant nature of the material out of which the tire is made. The whole idea is to provide a machine by which the walls of the tire may be spread and hold apart, presenting the inner surface for the worker to control. The device must also perform rotational and vertical movement of the tire. It is meant to provide inspection in hich there is no need for the controller to use force. It makes his work easier and more efficient.

为解决当前数字化工厂模型所存在的实时性不强和集成性不足等问题,提出了使用管控系统间集成通用标准--SP95标准进行数字化工厂建模。在应用SP95标准对工厂模型进行定义和描述的基础上,结合国内离散企业中的实际情况,提出了一种扩展的工厂模型。该模型在SP95标准的基础上扩展了料架和变量两个元素,并介绍了其实现方式和作用。通过SP95标准提供的功能,扩展了基于可扩展标记语言技术的制造标记语言的Schema结构,为业务系统集成提供统一的数据共享格式。最后给出了一个构建工厂模型的实例,验证了所提出的模型。

The tendon of flexor pollicis longus angulates at the trapezio-metacarpal joint level. The degree of angulation varies with extent of radial/ulnar deviation (Rack and Ross [1984] J. Physiol. 351:99–110). We report a fibrous pulley at this level that helps stabilize the tendon and facilitates its action. The morphology of the pulley is described. We believe that it has an important role to play in the unique function of the tendon facilitating the movement of the thumb perpendicular to the plane of the thumbnail. Clin. Im Zuge dieser Arbeit ist ein Massenspektrometer zur flugzeuggetragenen Messung von HNO3 und HONO auf dem neuen deutschen Forschungsflugzeug HALO aufgebaut worden (AIMS - Atmospheric chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer). Die Ionisation der HNO3- und HONO-Moleküle erfolgt chemisch durch Reaktion mit SF5- -Ionen. Basierend auf den Ergebnissen von Laborversuchen wurden die Betriebsparameter optimiert, die Einzelkomponenten im HALO-Rack zusammengestellt und eine Einlassleitung entworfen, die Wandeffekte minimiert und Untergrundmessungen und HNO3-Kalibrationen im Flug ermöglicht. Die Empfindlichkeit der Messung von HNO3 und HONO wurde ebenso im Labor untersucht wie Interferenzen mit Wasserdampf und Ozon. Die HONO-Vergleichskampagne FIONA am Europäischen Photoreaktor (EUPHORE) in Valencia war die erste Messkampagne mit AIMS. Bei den offenen Vergleichsmessungen stimmten die von AIMS gemessenen HONO-Mischungsverhältnisse innerhalb +-20% mit dem Median von 9 weiteren HONO-Messungen überein. Die ersten flugzeuggetragenen Messungen mit AIMS werden im Verlauf der HALO-Missionen ML-CIRRUS und TACTS stattfinden. Neben dem Aufbau und der Charakterisierung von AIMS war die Analyse der Aufnahme von HNO3 in Eispartikel von Kondensstreifen und Zirren Gegenstand dieser Arbeit. Die Aufnahme von HNO3 in Kondensstreifeneispartikel wurde erstmals systematisch anhand einer Flugzeugmesskampagne (CIRRUS-III) untersucht. Während CIRRUS-III im November 2006 wurden Zirren und zufällig knapp 40 persistente Kondensstreifen über Deutschland und Nordeuropa beprobt. Die Messungen fanden in Höhen zwischen 10 und 11.5 km und bei Temperaturen zwischen 210 und 230 K statt. Die HNO3-Konzentration wurde mit Hilfe von NOy-Messungen bestimmt. Im Mittel war in Kondensstreifen ein größerer Anteil des Gesamt-HNO3 in den Eispartikeln gebunden (6 %) als in Zirren (3 %). Das Gasphasenäquivalent des eisgebundenen HNO3 betrug in Zirren durchschnittlich 6 pmol/mol, in Kondensstreifen 14 pmol/mol und in jungen Kondensstreifen (Alter<1 h) 21 pmol/mol. Das Mischungsverhältnis von HNO3 zu H2O in Eispartikeln war in Kondensstreifen leicht höher als in Zirren unter ähnlichen meteorologischen Bedingungen. Ursächlich für die höheren Werte in persistenten Kondensstreifen sind wahrscheinlich die hohen HNO3-Konzentrationen in den Abgasfahnen der Flugzeuge bei der Kondensstreifenbildung. Die beobachtete Abnahme des HNO3/H2O-Molverhältnisses mit zunehmendem Effektivdurchmesser der Eispartikel deutet an, dass die HNO3-Konzentrationen in Eispartikeln von jungen Kondensstreifen durch die Aufnahme von Abgas-HNO3 in die gefrierenden Aerosolpartikel bestimmt wird. Die Konzentrationen in älteren Kondensstreifen werden zunehmend durch das Vergraben von Umgebungs-HNO3 in wachsenden Eispartikeln kontrolliert. Diese Studie leistet einen Beitrag zu einem besseren Prozessverständnis der HNO3-Aufnahme in atmosphärische Eispartikel. Sie motiviert die Nutzung persistenter Kondensstreifen als atmosphärisches Labor zur Untersuchung der Spurengasaufnahme in wachsende Eispartikel.

Aufgrund der hohen Kosten für Tiefbohrungen ist eine wirtschaftliche Stromerzeugung aus der tiefen Geothermie derzeit nur bedingt möglich. Da die Herstellkosten einer Tiefbohrung direkt von der Herstellzeit abhängig sind, wird eine Optimierung der nichtproduktiven Prozesse angestrebt. Vorrangig sind die Prozesse zu betrachten und zu optimieren, durch die eine Unterbrechung des Bohrens auftritt. Dies ist hauptsächlich beim Transport der Rohre zwischen Lager und Arbeitsplattform sowie bei den Verschraubungsprozessen der Rohre der Fall. Im Rahmen dieses Beitrags werden Konzepte zur Umgestaltung dieser Prozesse und Bewegungsabläufe an Tiefbohranlagen entwickelt und auf ihr zeitliches Einsparpotential untersucht.

ABSTRACT: The “azure jay” and the “pine tree” are among the most acknowledged representative symbols from Parana State in Brazil. They have been referenced by many different kinds of artistic expressions, such as theater, poetry and music. Along the years the tales about these cultural images have inspired regional and nationally recognized poets, writers and composers. In this perspective, considering the importance of these local symbols, this paper aims to verify how distinct kinds of artistic production, such as literary and musical works, depict these acknowledged symbols. So, as corpus to this research we took three texts. The first one is the song Gralha azul (1968), composed by Inami Custódio Pinto, which is considered one of the most outstanding songs of the cultural repertoire from Parana State. The second one is the poem Araucária (1999), by Helena Kolody. The third one is A lenda do pinheiro e a gralha azul (1972), which is in the first publication about blue azure jay’s tales, the book A sombra dos pinheirais (1925), by Eurico Branco Ribeiro. We analyze some lexical units such as “azure jay”, “pine tree” andpinion”, trying to describe their meanings conveyed by the selected artistic work. The theoretical basis that guides this work are the Lexicology and Lexicography studies (BIDERMAN, 2001a, 2001b, 2001c), discussing the existing relation between lexicon, society and culture.   KEYWORDS: Lexicon; Symbols of Parana; Culture of Parana.

A summary of previous research is presented that indicates that the purpose of a blue copper protein's fold and hydrogen bond network, aka, the rack effect, enforce a copper(II) geometry around the copper(I) ion in the metal site. In several blue copper proteins, the C-terminal histidine ligand becomes protonated and detaches from the copper in the reduced forms. Mutants of amicyanin from Paracoccus denitrificans were made to alter the hydrogen bond network and quantify the rack effect by pKa shifts.

The pKa's of mutant amicyanins have been measured by pH-dependent electrochemistry. P94F and P94A mutations loosen the Northern loop, allowing the reduced copper to adopt a relaxed conformation: the ability to relax drives the reduction potentials up. The measured potentials are 265 (wild type), 380 (P94A), and 415 (P94F) mV vs. NHE. The measured pKa's are 7.0 (wild type), 6.3 (P94A), and 5.0 (P94F). The additional hydrogen bond to the thiolate in the mutants is indicated by a red-shift in the blue copper absorption and an increase in the parallel hyperfine splitting in the EPR spectrum. This hydrogen bond is invoked as the cause for the increased stability of the C-terminal imidazole.

Melting curves give a measure of the thermal stability of the protein. A thermodynamic intermediate with pH-dependent reversibility is revealed. Comparisons with the electrochemistry and apoamicyanin suggest that the intermediate involves the region of the protein near the metal site. This region is destabilized in the P94F mutant; coupled with the evidence that the imidazole is stabilized under the same conditions confirms an original concept of the rack effect: a high energy configuration is stabilized at a cost to the rest of the protein.

Once defined the relationship between the Starter Motor components and their functions, it is possible to develop a mathematical model capable to predict the Starter behavior during operation. One important aspect is the engagement system behavior. The development of a mathematical tool capable of predicting it is a valuable step in order to reduce the design time, cost and engineering efforts. A mathematical model, represented by differential equations, can be developed using physics laws, evaluating force balance and energy flow through the systems degrees of freedom. Another important physical aspect to be considered in this modeling is the impact conditions (particularly on the pinion and ring-gear contact). This work is a report of those equations application on available mathematical software and the resolution of those equations by Runge-Kutta's numerical integration method, in order to build an accessible engineering tool.
