The electronic states of SeF: A reinterpretation of the chemiluminescent emission of the reaction of selenium with fluorine

The low-lying doublet and quartet electronic states of the species SeF correlating with the first dissociation channel are investigated theoretically at a high-level of electronic correlation treatment, namely, the complete active space self-consistent field/multireference single and double excitations configuration interaction (CASSCF/MRSDCI) using a quintuple-zeta quality basis set including a relativistic effective core potential for the selenium atom. Potential energy curves for (Lambda+S) states and the corresponding spectroscopic properties are derived that allows for an unambiguous assignment of the only spectrum known experimentally as due to a spin-forbidden X (2)Pi-a (4)Sigma(-) transition, and not a A (2)Pi-X (2)Pi transition as assumed so far. For the bound excited doublets, yet unknown experimentally, this study is the first theoretical characterization of their spectroscopic properties. Also the spin-orbit coupling constant function for the X (2)Pi state is derived as well as the spin-orbit coupling matrix element between the X (2)Pi and a (4)Sigma(-) states. Dipole moment functions and vibrationally averaged dipole moments show SeF to be a very polar species. An overview of the lowest-lying spin-orbit (Omega) states completes this description. Reinterpretation de l'Histoire Stratigraphique et Tectonique de la Structure de Serra de El-Rei (Portugal)

Les travaux faits sur le terrain et les interprétations cartographiques de ces dernières années, montrant la pertinence des observations de Paul Choffat au siècle dernier, permettent de préciser l'échelle stratigraphique et de mieux distinguer les phases de l'histoire tectonique de la structure de Serra de EI-Rei. En attendant la publication d'une cartographie très détaillée mettant en évidence le détail des déformations tectoniques, il faut souligner la dissymétrie des deux flancs de cette structure ainsi que le rôle de certaines failles transverses. Sur son flanc nord, la série liasique, allant des dolomies du Lias inférieur au Toarcien inférieur ou moyen, est recouverte stratigraphiquement et en légère discordance par le "Lusitanien" qui remanie à sa base des éléments du Toarcien inférieur ou moyen. Sur son flanc sud, dans la partie centrale, la série stratigraphique liasique est comparable à celle de l'autre flanc, mais les dépôts du Toarcien, plus complets, sont affectés au cours de la zone à Meneghinii par des perturbations synsédimentaires avec fossiles brisés et/ou remaniés et des réductions d'épaisseur. Plus à l'Est, le Toarcien est très réduit et (tectoniquement?) en contact avec le Dogger. Au Sud-Ouest en revanche, prés de Bolhos, la série toarcienne est plus complète et couronnée par l'Aalénien inférieur, mais tronquée par un contact oblique N-S, repris par la tectonique récente. Sur ce flanc, le Bajocien inférieur est représenté mais peu épais; il est suivi par le Bajocien supérieur, le Bathonien et le Callovien très développés qui sont recouverts par un "Lusitanien" épais, très différent de celui du flanc nord. Cette série du Jurassique moyen et supérieur a été décrite dans la thèse de Christiane Ruget (1963). La structure de Serra de EI-Rei constitue une sorte de raccord E-W entre les importantes structures (diapiriques ?) méridiennes de Caldas da Rainha au NE et de Bolhos au SW. II s'agit d'une structure de tectonique distensive, en demi-graben, d'âge jurassique, qui est responsable de la dissymétrie des séries lithostratigraphiques sur ses deux flancs; au Miocène, pendant la compression bétique, cette structure a subi une inversion en constriction. Un modèle de l'évolution sédimentaire du secteur est présenté.

Stroke in ancient times - a reinterpretation of Psalms 137 : 5,6

Stroke was probably first described in Psalms 136: 5-6 of the Catholic Bible, and Psalms 137:5-6 of the Evangelical Bible. Based on the Portuguese, Spanish, English, German, Dutch, Russian, Greek, and original Hebrew Bible, the significance of this Psalm is the invocation of a punishment, of which the final result would be a stroke of the left middle cerebral artery, causing motor aphasia and right hemiparesis.

Reinterpretation of a conulariid-like fossil from the Vendian of Russia

Vendoconularia triradiata Ivantsov and Fedonkin, recently described from Vendian (latest Proterozoic) strata of Russia, has been interpreted as a six-sided conulariid cnidarian. However, comparison of published illustrations of V. triradiata with Palaeozoic conulariids suggests that certain key features of the anatomy of V. triradiata should be reinterpreted. Specifically, features previously homologized with the corners of conulariid thecae may actually be homologous to the conulariid midlines. Under this new interpretation, the corners of the Vendoconularia theca were sulcate, and the midline of each face was non-sulcate and flanked by a pair of low internal carinae. This alternative set of hypotheses of homology makes the argument for a conulariid affinity for Vendoconularia stronger.

Reinterpretation of Malvinoconularia cahuanotensis (Braniša and Vaněk) from the Devonian Altiplano and Western Andean Cordillera, Bolivia, South America

The holotype of Malvinoconularia cahuanotensis (Braniša and Vaněk) (Devonian, Bolivia), the type species of the monospecific genus Malvinoconularia Babcock et al., is redescribed and refigured. M. cahuanotensis exhibits several gross morphological features that together are uniquely shared with Reticulaconularia baini (Babcock and Feldmann). In both taxa, the transverse ribs are nodose, the inter-spaces bear longitudinal ridges (bars or crests) that are collinear (line up) across the transverse ribs, and the longitudinal centerline (midline) of the faces is marked by a subdued ridge. Additionally, the two species may also be similar in the anatomy and external ornament of the corner sulcus. The slightly undulose geometry of the transverse ribs of M. cahuanotensis also is exhibited by certain specimens of Reticulaconularia; however, whether this feature is primary or taphonomic in origin is unclear at present. Together, these similarities suggest that the genus Malvinoconularia probably is a junior synonym of the genus Reticulaconularia. © Asociación Paleontológica Argentina.

A factor-analytic reinterpretation of the Clark-Trow "educational philosophies"

Each of four principal components analyses (n = 3,944) incorporated student self-ratings (Most accurate to Least accurate) on one of the four Clark-Trow educational philosophies: Vocational, Academic, Collegiate, Nonconformist. The analyses of these 25-variable correlation matrices yielded 2 factors differentially associated with educational philosophy: Sociability versus Independence (replacing Clark-Trow's "Identification with the College") and Liberalism versus Conservatism (replacing Clark-Trow's "Involvement with Ideas"). The Vocational philosophy was associated primarily with Conservatism, the Collegiate with Sociability, and the Nonconformist with Liberalism; the Academic was moderately associated with both Independence and Liberalism.

Este artículo trata de la terminología trinitaria de Abū Rā’iṭa contenida en su al-Risāla fi l-thālūth al-muqaddas. Concretamente, se centra en una expresión que simboliza la unidad de la sustancia divina y la multiplicidad de hipóstasis, es decir “māsūra y muftaraqa”. Ofrecemos un intento de reinterpretación del significado de estos términos clave de acuerdo con la comprensión de la doctrina trinitaria de Abū Rā’iṭa.
