Deterrence strategies for deviant consumer behavior are criticised for their â˜one size fits allâ approach. In two studies, this paper examines how the size of harm and size of victim influences consumer perceptions of deviant consumer behavior. Deterrence strategies are recommended that overcome the differences in consumer perceptions of deviance.

This research explored the influence of childrenâs perceptions of a pro-social behavior after-school program on actual change in the childrenâs behavioral outcomes over the programâs duration. Childrenâs perceptions of three program processes were collected as well as self-reported pro-social and anti-social behavior before and after the program. Statistical models showed that: Positive perceptions of the program facilitatorsâ dispositions significantly predicted reductions in anti-social behavior; and positive perceptions with the program activities significantly predicted gains in pro-social behavior. The childrenâs perceptions of their peersâ behavior in the sessions were not found to a significant predictor of behavioral change. The two significant perceptual indicators predicted a small percentage of the change in the behavioral outcomes. However, as after-school social learning programs have a research history of problematic implementation childrenâs perceptions should be considered in future program design, evaluation and monitoring. <br/>

This paper shows that borrowersâ ethical behavior leads lending banks to loosen financing conditions when setting loan rates. We advance the banking literature by stressing that the previous financing loosening is enhanced when there is similarity of lenders and borrowers along their ethical domain given that such similarity brings about familiarity and trust in non-opportunistic behavior between them, thereby contributing to lower information frictions. Unique data composed of 12,545 syndicated loan facilities from 19 countries for the period 2003â2007 indicate a 24.8% reduction in the mean spread associated with an increase of one standard deviation in the degree of borrowersâ ethical behavior from its mean value. Such reduction is enhanced to 37.6% when lenders also behave in an ethical way. Results withstand a battery of robustness tests including the use of alternative databases that capture the effect of the 2008 financial crisis, financing alternatives such as equity financing as well as nonparametric estimations.

The objective of this study was to describe the perceptions of Long Term Care (LTC) service providers in urban Canadian care facilities regarding the prevalence and nature of resident behavior problems and how staff manage these problems. Key informants from 15 LTC facilities housing 1,928 residents, participated in a cross sectional survey which employed semi-structured telephone interviews. Respondents estimated that on average 61% (n = 1,176) of residents had some type of mental health/behavioral problem, with facility estimates ranging from 20% to 90%. The most frequently reported problem behaviors included: general agitation and restlessness (36%); pacing and aimless wandering (28%); hoarding things (24%); hitting either self or others (23%); and verbal aggression (22%). Behaviors reported by respondents as "disruptive" or "very disruptive" were screaming (13%), sexual disinhibition (10%), and hitting either self or others (10%). The most common interventions used by staff were behavioral interventions followed by the use of medications. Low levels of staffing and educational training of staff were among the most common factors recognized as contributing to the difficulty in caring for residents with mental health needs.

La culture organisationnelle influence la manière dont les organismes relèvent les défis externes auxquels elle fait face et façonnent les comportements normatifs de leurs membres. Des études portant sur le degré dâacceptation et dâadoption dâune culture organisationnelle indiquent une grande variance en fonction de multiples facteurs (p. ex. : lââge, lâoccupation, la hiérarchie, etc.) et leurs liens aux résultats subséquents. Différentes évaluations culturelles considèrent les sondages dâauto-évalulation comme étant des moyens acceptables de créer des liens entre les perceptions et les résultats. En effet, ces instruments mesurent les croyances, les suppositions et les valeurs dâune personne, mais lâun des facteurs pouvant compromettre les réponses est le manque de cadre de référence. Un des objectifs de lâétude est de déterminer la manière dont la mesure des perceptions culturelles est reliée à la contextualisation des questions du sondage. à lâaide de deux orientations, nous tentons de déterminer si les perceptions de la culture en lien avec lâorganisation entière sont différentes de celles en lien avec le groupe de travail immédiat. De plus, lâétude explore la manière dont les différences algébriques entre les perceptions des deux référents sont simultanément reliées au bien-être psychologique au travail, à lâengagement et aux comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle. Comme objectif final, nous déterminons lequel des deux référents prédit le mieux ces résultats. Les cent quatre-vingt-neuf participants de lâétude faisaient partie dâun établissement dâenseignement postsecondaire de langue anglaise du Québec. En premier lieu, les participants recevaient, de façon aléatoire, lâun des deux questionnaires - soit celui orienté sur lâorganisation entière, soit celui orienté sur le groupe de travail immédiat -, puis, en deuxième lieu, son référent opposé correspondant. Les résultats indiquent que les perceptions de culture en lien avec lâorganisation entière sont significativement différentes de celle en lien avec le groupe de travail immédiat. Lâétude démontre que les similitudes entre les perceptions sont directement proportionnelles au bien-être ainsi quâaux engagements organisationnels et de groupe de travail. De plus grandes différences perceptuelles sont associées à des niveaux plus élevés de bien-être et dâengagement organisationnel normatif. Ces associations sont plus fortes lorsque les perceptions de la culture organisationnelle sont plus positives que les perceptions de la culture du groupe de travail. Les différences algébriques opposées sont liées à des niveaux plus élevés de comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle ainsi que dâengagements affectifs et de continuité envers le groupe de travail. Les résultats de lâétude suggèrent aussi que les perceptions de la culture du groupe de travail sont plus liées aux résultats pertinents que les perceptions de la culture organisationnelle. Les implications théoriques et pratiques des mesures de perceptions de culture sont examinées.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the information-seeking behavior of science and social science research scholars, including service effectiveness, satisfaction level on different type of sources and various methods adopted by the scholars for keeping up to dateData were gathered using a questionnaire survey of 200, randomly selected, PhD students of science and social science departments of four universities in Kerala, IndiaAlthough similarities exist between social science and science PhD students with regard to information-seeking behavior, there are significant differences as well. There is a significant difference between science and social science scholars on the perception of the adequacy of print journals and database collection which are very relevant to the research purposes. There is no significant difference between science and social science scholars on the perception of the adequacy of e-journals, the most used source for keeping up to date. The study proved that scholars of both the fields are dissatisfied with the effectiveness of the library in keeping them up to date with latest developments

The widespread availability of wirelessly connected portable computers, smartphones and other mobile devices, and the pervasive presence of computer services in our everyday environment, has brought the prediction of Mark Weiser of future ubiquitous computer systems closer to reality. Some of these - ever-present, anywhere, anytime - ubiquitous computer services mean easier and pleasant lifestyles for many people, but the generalized availability of some classes of these softwares and computer services, known as virtual disguisers and Virtual Robots, can pose new ethical problems in a world of explosive growth of social networking sites. The objective of the present article is to investigate some of these problems, from an interdisciplinary philosophical perspective. Special emphasis shall be given to the potential impact on human conduct caused by disguisers and Virtual Robots. © 2011 IEEE.

The number of seniors in the U.S. today is growing rapidly because of longer life expectancies and the aging Baby Boomer generation. This age groups' travel behavior will have substantial impacts on transportation, economics, safety, and the environment. This research used a mixed-methods approach to address issues of mobility and aging in Denver, Colorado. A quantitative approach was used to answer broad questions about travel behavior and the effects of age, gender, work status, disability, residential location and socio-economic status on mobility. Qualitative interviews with seniors in the Denver metro area were conducted to identify barriers to mobility, decision-making processes and travel decisions, and seniors' perceptions of public transit. The results of the quantitative and qualitative analyses show that residential location is an important variable for determining seniors' travel behaviors and transportation options. Perceptions of public transit were positive, but accessibility and information barriers exist that prevent older adult from using transit. The findings of this study will help to provide transportation and service recommendations to policymakers and planners in the Denver area as well as to inform studies of other North American cities with large aging populations.

The purpose of this research was to examine bartender workplace behavior. This study begins with a review of the literature pertaining to the job of bartending, and positive work behavior (citizenship) and negative (deviant) workplace behavior. Data was collected by semi-structured interview. The bartenders expressed instances of both behaviors and showed support for a newly termed citizenship behavior, norm avoidance.
