Background: The aim of this study is to verify the regenerative potential of particulate anorganic bone matrix synthetic peptide-15 (ABM-P-15) in class III furcation defects associated or not with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membranes. Methods: Class III furcation defects were produced in the mandibular premolars (P2, P3, and P4) of six dogs and filled with impression material. The membranes and the bone grafts were inserted into P3 and P4, which were randomized to form the test and control groups, respectively; P2 was the negative control group. The animals were sacrificed 3 months post-treatment. Results: Histologically, the complete closure of class III furcation defects was not observed in any of the groups. Partial periodontal regeneration with similar morphologic characteristics among the groups was observed, however, through the formation of new cementum, periodontal ligament, and bone above the notch. Histologic analysis showed granules from the bone graft surrounded by immature bone matrix and encircled by newly formed tissue in the test group. The new bone formation area found in the negative control group was 2.28 +/- 2.49 mm(2) and in the test group it was 6.52 +/- 5.69 mm(2), which showed statistically significant differences for these groups considering this parameter (Friedman test P <0.05). There was no statistically significant difference among the negative control, control, and test groups for the other parameters. Conclusions: The regenerative potential of ABM-P-15 was demonstrated through new bone formation circumscribing and above the graft particles. The new bone also was accompanied by the formation of new cementum and periodontal ligament fibers. J Periodontol 2010;81:594-603.

Background: Preventing ridge collapse with the extraction of maxillary anterior teeth is vital to an esthetic restorative result. Several regenerative techniques are available and are used for socket preservation. The aim of this study is to analyze by clinical parameters the use of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and anorganic bovine bone matrix (ABM) with synthetic cell-binding peptide P-15 to preserve alveolar bone after tooth extraction. Methods: Eighteen patients in need of extraction of maxillary anterior teeth were selected and randomly assigned to the test group (ADM plus ABM/P-15) or the control group (ADM only). Clinical measurements were recorded initially and at 6 months after ridge-preservation procedures. Results: In the clinical measurements (external vertical palatal measurement [EVPM], external vertical buccal measurement [EVBM], and alveolar horizontal measurement [AHM]) the statistical analysis showed no difference between test and control groups initially and at 6 months. The intragroup analysis, after 6 months, showed a statistically significant reduction in the measurements for both groups. In the comparison between the two groups, the differences in the test group were as follows: EVPM = 0.83 +/- 1.53 mm; EVBM = 1.20 +/- 2.02 mm; and AHM = 2.53 +/- 1.81 mm. The differences in the control group were as follows: EVPM = 0.87 +/- 1.13 mm; EVBM = 1.50 +/- 1.15 mm; and AHM = 3.40 +/- 1.39 mm. The differences in EVPM and EVBM were not statistically significant; however, in horizontal measurement (AHM), there was a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study show that ADM used as membrane associated with ABM/P-15 can be used to reduce buccal-palatal dimensions compared to ADM alone for preservation of the alveolar ridge after extraction of anterior maxillary teeth. Plantea una serie de medidas para impulsar el modelo de Escuela P??blica, unas internas -dirigidas a la comunidad educativa- y otras externas -dirigidas a la sociedad y a los gobiernos-. Las medidas internas que propone son: la recuperaci??n del debate sobre el modelo de Escuela P??blica en el seno de la comunidad educativa, la toma de conciencia de que la Escuela P??blica es un espacio com??n en el que todos puedan participar de todo y la implicaci??n en el proceso de construcci??n de la Escuela P??blica, rescatar el Proyecto Educativo y realizar una gesti??n eficaz y democr??tica. Y las medidas externas: que el modelo de Escuela P??blica sea conocido e identificado por cualquier ciudadano y que la Administraci??n asuma su responsabilidad con la Escuela P??blica.

Como novedad para el 2005 destaca nuevas rutas en colaboración con otras Comunidades Autónomas y la posibilidad de que estas sean subvencionadas.

The performance of a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with SBA-15 nanostructured silica organofunctionalised with 2-benzothiazolethiol in the simultaneous determination of Pb(II), Cu(II) and Hg(II) ions in natural water and sugar cane spirit (cachaca) is described. Pb(II), Cu(II) and Hg(II) were pre-concentrated on the surface of the modified electrode by complexing with 2-benzothiazolethiol and reduced at a negative potential (-0.80 V). Then the reduced products were oxidised by DPASV procedure. The fact that three stripping peaks appeared on the voltammograms at the potentials of -0.48 V (Pb2+), -0.03 V (Cu2+) and +0.36 V (Hg2+) in relation to the SCE, demonstrates the possibility of simultaneous determination of Pb2+, Cu2+ and Hg2+. The best results were obtained under the following optimised conditions: 100 mV pulse amplitude, 3 min accumulation time, 25 mV s(-1) scan rate in phosphate solution pH 3.0. Using such parameters, calibration graphs were linear in the concentration ranges of 3.00-70.0 x 10(-7) mol L-1 (Pb2+), 8.00-100.0 X 10(-7) mol L-1 (Cu2+) and 2.00-10.0 x 10(-6) mol L-1 (Hg2+). Detection limits of 4.0 x 10(-8) mol L-1 (Pb2+), 2.0 x 10(-7) mol L-1 (Cu2+) and 4.0 x 10(-7) mol L-1 (Hg2+) were obtained at the signal noise ratio (SNR) of 3. The results indicate that this electrode is sensitive and effective for simultaneous determination of Pb2+, Cu2+ and Hg2+ in the analysed samples. (C) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Bakgrund: På somatiska vårdavdelningar är fallrisken hög då det gäller patienter med demenssjukdom. Olika faktorer leder till att denna patientgrupp riskerar att inneha hög fallfrekvens på sjukhus. Syftet är att beskriva hur sjuksköterskan med hjälp av omvårdnadsåtgärder kan förebygga fall hos patienter med demenssjukdom på somatiska vårdavdelningar. Metod som valts är en litteratur översikt som är baserad på 15 vetenskapliga artiklar av både kvalitativ- och kvantitativansats. Resultat: Att identifiera vilka faktorer som leder till ökad fallrisk är ett viktigt arbete för sjuksköterskan för att kunna sätta in rätt omvårdnadsåtgärder. Upprättandet av individanpassat fallpreventionsprogram kan förebygga fall genom att patientens styrkor och svagheter identifieras. Vårdmiljön har en stor betydelse för patienter med demenssjukdom för att motverka risken för fallolyckor. Genom att samverka med andra professioner kan sjuksköterskan få ett större urval av omvårdnadsåtgärder i det fallförebyggande arbetet. Olika sorters hjälpmedel kan användas i omvårdnaden och därmed förebygga fall och framförallt fallskador. Slutsats: Fallolyckor innebär svåra skador hos äldre patienter med demens med en lång vårdtid och ökat lidande som följd. Det bör därför ligga i sjuksköterskans intresse att mer systematiskt använda sig av någon av tidigare nämnda omvårdnadsåtgärder då de hjälper till att förhindra fallolyckor i hög grad.
