The mammalian lignan, enterolactone, has been shown to reduce the proliferation of the earlier stages of prostate cancer at physiological concentrations in vitro. However, efficacy in the later stages of the disease occurs at concentrations difficult to achieve through dietary modification. We have therefore investigated what concentration(s) of enterolactone can restrict proliferation in multiple stages of prostate cancer using an in vitro model system of prostate disease. We determined that enterolactone at 20 μM significantly restricted the proliferation of mid and late stage models of prostate disease. These effects were strongly associated with changes in the expression of the DNA licencing genes (GMNN, CDT1, MCM2 and 7), in reduced expression of the miR-106b cluster (miR-106b, miR-93, and miR-25), and in increased expression of the PTEN tumour suppressor gene. We have shown anti-proliferative effects of enterolactone in earlier stages of prostate disease than previously reported and that these effects are mediated, in part, by microRNA-mediated regulation.

A new Swiss federal licencing examination for human medicine (FLE) was developed and released in 2011. This paper describes the process from concept design to the first results obtained on implementation of the new examination. The development process was based on the Federal Act on University Medical Professions and involved all national stakeholders in this venture. During this process questions relating to the assessment aims, the assessment formats, the assessment dimensions, the examination content and necessary trade-offs were clarified. The aims were to create a feasible, fair, valid and psychometrically sound examination in accordance with international standards, thereby indicating the expected knowledge and skills level at the end of undergraduate medical education. Finally, a centrally managed and locally administered examination comprising a written multiple-choice element and a practical “clinical skills” test in the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) format was developed. The first two administrations of the new FLE show that the examination concept could be implemented as intended. The anticipated psychometric indices were achieved and the results support the validity of the examination. Possible changes to the format or content in the future are discussed.

New developments in higher education and research are having their repercussions in dailylicencing practice. Examples are; demands for perpetual access usage of licensed content incourse packs or virtual research environments text mining open access to publications. Atthe Knowledge Exchange workshop on LicencingPractice, twenty Experts discussed how these newdevelopments could be incorporated in licencing. The workshop consisted of four presentations oncurrent developments in licencing followed by threeparallel breakout sessions on the topics open access,new developments and data and text mining. This led toa lively exchange of ideas. Especially the aspect of dataand text mining provided valuable insights in how thiscould be incorporated in licencing. The Knowledge Exchange Licensing expert group willwork on how to implement the model provisions discussed. Input from the workshop was collected for a workshop with publishers to take place in March 2012 and will include these provisions in their licences. The various suggestions will be also shared with other international organisations working inthis field.

Le jeu a toujours été perçu comme un vice, responsable de nombreux troubles sociaux. Par conséquent, les gouvernements ont adopté divers cadres juridiques pour contrôler et gérer ses conséquences négatives. Malgré qu'il soit omniprésent, le jeu en ligne est illégal au Canada, aux États Unis et dans plusieurs autres pays. La règlementation du jeu en ligne et la gestion de ses troubles sociaux présente un plus grand défi pour les gouvernements, particulièrement en raison de sa nature technologique et extraterritoriale. Ce mémoire identifiera les risques et conséquences liés au jeu, en particulier les problèmes de jeu, ainsi que les cadres juridiques adoptés pour les règlementer et minimiser. Nous examinerons le statut juridique du jeu en ligne dans différentes juridictions, dont le Canada, les États Unis, le Royaume-Uni et ailleurs dans l'Union européenne. Ces cadres juridiques comprennent l'interdiction du jeu en ligne aux États Unis, la légalisation, l’octroi de licences et taxation du jeu en ligne au Royaume Uni et les cadres juridiques employés au Canada et ailleurs, offrant du jeu en ligne exclusivement par l’entremise de monopoles d'état pour contrôler sa disponibilité et minimiser ses conséquences néfastes. Nous tirerons des conclusions quant à l'efficacité relative des différents cadres juridiques adoptées pour règlementer le jeu en ligne.

Einleitung In unserer Institution sind die Anforderungen an Schauspielpatienten (SPs) seit 2010 stetig angestiegen(Guttormsen et al., 2013). Zudem stieg auch die Zahl der benötigten SPs insgesamt, so dass wir uns entschieden ein effektives Aufnahmeverfahren gemäss professioneller Qualitätskriterien (Wallace, 2007) zu gestalten. Methoden Seit 2012 organisieren wir 2 x jährlich eine Informations-Veranstaltung für interessierte Bewerber. In einem ersten Teil wird über die Einsätze von SPs informiert und die Rahmenbedingungen dargelegt. In einem zweiten Teil werden Improvisationsübungen in Gruppen, zu zweit oder einzeln durchgeführt. Die SP-Trainer beobachten das Spiel. Zusätzlich wird die Performance gefilmt. Alle Interessierten müssen sich nach dieser 2-stündigen Veranstaltung für 2 weitere Einzeltermine einschreiben: 1. Spielen eines OSCE-Falles (mit SP-Trainer) 2. Körperliche Untersuchung (mit Arzt). Anschliessend wird im Team entschieden, ob alle Voraussetzungen in Bezug auf Teamfähigkeit/Zuverlässigkeit, schauspielerische Fertigkeiten, körperliche Merkmale für eine Anstellung erfüllt sind. Ergebnisse Mit der Einführung dieses strukturierten Auswahlverfahrens haben wir folgendes erreicht: die ausgewählten SPs passen sehr gut in das Team und erfordern weniger organisatorischen Aufwand. Die Rollen können exakter auf das Profil der jeweiligen SPs abgestimmt werden (insbes. durch die körperliche Untersuchung).  Mit der Informationsveranstaltung für die Gruppe wird der zeitliche Aufwand für die Information der SPs gegenüber reinen Einzelinterviews gesenkt (50%), trotzdem können durch die Einzeltermine detaillierte Informationen erhoben werden. Diskussion Seit der Neustrukturierung des Auswahlverfahrens entsprechen die gewählten SPs deutlich besser unserem Anforderungsprofil. In Zukunft planen wir das Anforderungsprofil schriftlich zu dokumentieren und zu veröffentlichen, um das Verfahren transparent zu machen. Literatur: [1] Guttormsen, S., C. Beyeler, R. Bonvin, S. A Administração Pública Portuguesa tem sentido necessidade de se modernizar e, na procura desse objetivo, têm sido criados diversos programas de simplificação administrativa em Portugal. No âmbito de um desses programas – o Simplex, surgiu o programa Licenciamento Zero que visa reduzir os procedimentos necessários ao licenciamento de determinadas atividades económicas. O presente trabalho pretendeu demonstrar como se projetou legalmente a implementação do Licenciamento Zero e como se procedeu a implementação organizacional desta medida, procurando identificar as principais dificuldades da sua implementação. Pretendeu-se ainda conhecer os procedimentos de licenciamento antes do projeto Licenciamento Zero, e compará-los com a realidade posterior à sua implementação. Para isso, fez-se um foco na área da publicidade. Por fim, procurou-se compreender quais as vantagens desta desmaterialização, desburocratização e modernização administrativa para as empresas, bem como compreender quais as consequências positivas e negativas sentidas pelas entidades responsáveis pelo licenciamento, nomeadamente a Câmara Municipal de Vagos.
