Efeitos de parcelamento de adubação nitrogenada e potássica foram estudados na cultura de Gladiolus grandiflorus, L., cv. 'Friendship', no que concerne a produção de bulbos, bulbilhos e hastes florais. Houve influência do parcelamento sobre número e peso de bulbos e bulbilhos e sobre comprimento de haste floral do gladíolo. Em geral o nitrogênio influiu sobre número de bulbos e de bulbilhos, enquanto o potássio influenciou em seu peso.

In search of true friendship

The present text proposes a discussion on the concept of true friendship. The argument is grounded mostly on Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, Owen Flanagan's ethics as human ecology, and on contemporary authors' works about the Greek philosopher's concept of friendship. Given that human beings flourish through 1) exercising capacities, 2) being moral, and 3) having true friendships, difficulties to establish the level of trust required by true friendships turns the search itself (for them) morally valid.

The role of self-knowledge in aristotelian friendship

This paper discusses the capital role that friendship plays in moral self-knowledge within Aristotelian Ethics. It focuses on the different ways in which a friend may shed light on the understanding of our behavior. Great attention is paid to the accounts of certain commentators (especially, of Richard Kraut and Anthony Kenny) on this subject. The paper tries to provide a conciliatory interpretation between views on self-knowledge that are, only in appearance, irreconcilable.

Kant, Nietzsche and the idealization of friendship into nihilism

Is friendship still possible under nihilistic conditions? Kant and Nietzsche are important stages in the history of the idealization of friendship, which leads inevitably to the problem of nihilism. Nietzsche himself claims on the one hand that only something like friendship can save us in our nihilistic condition, but on the other hand that precisely friendship has been unmasked and become impossible by these very conditions. It seems we are struck in the nihilistic paradox of not being allowed to believe in the possibility of what we cannot do without. Literary imagination since the 19th century seems to make us even more skeptical. Maybe Beckett provides an illustration of a way out that fits well to Nietzsche's claim that only "the most moderate, those who do not require any extreme articles of faith" will be able to cope with nihilism.

The fear of openness : an essay on friendship and the roots of morality

Det förefaller självklart att begrepp som lojalitet, respekt, rättigheter eller altruism beskriver något entydigt gott. Men tänk om det i själva verket är så att de aktualiseras bara där vi avvisat godheten? Tänk om vår moral och hela vårt liv genomsyras av en djup förvirring, av en ovilja att se vad som egentligen pågår mellan oss? I min avhandling ställer jag de här obekväma frågorna. Utgångspunkten är en diskussion om vänskap, som jag beskriver som en förbehållslös, helhjärtad öppenhet mellan människor. Denna öppenhet – som lika väl kan kallas godhet eller kärlek – är det svåraste som finns. Samtidigt finns öppenheten alltid där mellan oss, om så bara som en anad möjlighet som skrämmer oss, som vi sluter oss för och inte vill veta av. Vi lever i en ständig spänning mellan öppenhet och avvisande, och denna spänning yttrar sig i allt vi gör, känner och tänker. Det är vad jag vill visa. Bland de filosofer jag diskuterar kan nämnas Aristoteles, Kant, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche och Emmanuel Levinas.

Friendship Album

The album includes an illustration of a dog howling, by one of Eliza's friends. There is also a painting of roses. There is a poem signed Denison, that reads:" In truth it is not every book That's suited to the mind; In some forever you may look and no amusement find. But seldom does an album fail To please both grave and gay; It teams with many a merry tale and many a mournful day. Then reader know, whoever thou be Wise, witty, gay or sad; It's like the world in some degree Made up of good and bad". Another poem of eight verses is signed A. McNab. A poem and illustration are included by George Coventry. The illustration shows a man (presumed to be Coventry) looking at a book while others fish and work. Another poem initialed W.A.R. is thought to be by William Anthony Rooth, it is called "To Caroline". Also included in the album is a note from a Major who stayed at Eliza's home Christmas Day 1837. The note thanks Eliza for caring for him while he was ill at her home. A poem by Eliza's brother-in-law, Oliver T. Macklem is also included in the album. An illustration of two birds by Benjamin, Eliza's son, he was ten years old at the time. There is a poem written by L. D. Raymond with an attached newspaper clipping from Welland. The clipping is from L. D. Raymond's 79th birthday and is also a poem, "To the Old Barrister". Does friendship give us non-derivative partial reasons ?

Une des façons d’approcher la question de l’existence de raisons partiales non-dérivatives d’une quelconque sorte consiste à expliquer ce que sont les raisons partiales et ensuite à chercher à savoir s’il y a des raisons de cette sorte. Si de telles raisons existent, alors il est au moins possible qu’il y ait des raisons partiales d’amitié. C’est cette approche que j’adopterai ici, et elle produit des résultats intéressants. Le premier a trait à la structure des raisons partiales. C’est au moins une condition nécessaire pour qu’une raison soit partiale qu’elle aie une composante relationnelle explicite. Cette composante, techniquement parlant, est un relatum dans la relation d’être une raison qui elle-même est une relation entre la personne à qui la raison s’applique et la personne concernée par l’action pour laquelle il y a une raison. La deuxième conclusion de ce texte est que cette composante relationnelle est aussi requise dans de nombreuses sortes de raisons admises comme impartiales. Afin d’éviter de banaliser la distinction entre raisons partiales et impartiales nous devons appliquer une condition suffisante additionnelle. Finalement, bien qu’il pourrait s’avérer possible de distinguer les raisons impartiales ayant une composante relationnelle des raisons partiales, cette approche suggère que la question de savoir si l’éthique est partiale ou impartiale devra se régler au niveau de l’éthique normative, ou à tout le moins, qu’elle ne pourra se régler au niveau du discours sur la nature des raisons d’agir.

Friendship and the grounds of reasons

L’amitié de même que d’autres relations intimes ont créé des difficultés pour les philosophes moraux. Bien que la morale semble exiger que nous demeurions impartiaux, l’amitié semble donner naissance à des obligations de partialité envers nos proches. Mais cette difficulté peut disparaître une fois que l’on cesse de se concentrer sur la catégorisation des raisons en tant que morales ou non morales. Cette tendance à classer les raisons comme morales vs. non morales nous mène à accorder la place d’honneur à l’étiquette « moral » et à supposer que cette catégorie est uniforme. Si nous abandonnons ces suppositions, alors les raisons données par nos proches ou nos amis ne nous sembleront plus problématiques. Il sera alors possible de voir que toutes les raisons sont, en bout de ligne, egocentriques d’une importante façon, et que la délibération doit toujours provenir d’une perspective egocentrique.

Questions of Friendship and Degrees of Transnationality among Second-Generation Return Migrants to Barbados

While the academic literature has demonstrated the importance of social networks in relation to the process of migration, investigations have rarely examined in detail the personal-social adjustment issues that migrants and return migrants face. This study examines the context and types of friendship pattern that young return migrants from Britain cultivate in Barbados. The research centres on a wholly under-researched demographic groupyoung return migrants or second-generation Barbadians who have decided to return to the birthplace of their parents. The investigation is based on 51 in-depth interviews carried out with these young returnees to Barbados. Presenting a taxonomy of friendship types, it is argued that, for the 'Bajan-Brits' under study, the cultivation of new friendships is highly problematic. The research identifies what we refer to as the 'insular transnational', the 'we are different' and the 'all-inclusive transnational' friendship types among the young returnees. Our analysis also shows that problems of friendship are highly gendered, with females reporting the most problems due to what is perceived as sexual and workplace competition. It is stressed that these circumstances exemplify the essentially 'hybrid', 'liminal' and 'in-between' positionality of these second-generation migrants within contemporary Barbadian society.
