Fantástico e imaginário em contos de Inglês de Sousa

Nesta obra, o autor obidense, Herculano Marcos Inglês de Sousa, valoriza a mitologia amazônica ao destacar as lendas da cobra- grande, do pássaro acauã, do tajá, do boto e o temor presente no imaginário das pessoas que habitam regiões fronteiras à floresta amazônica, cenário de ocorrências fantásticas. A dissertação visa uma análise mais detalhada da narrativa “Acauã”, por ser aquela que reúne um número significativo de características fantásticas. Para desenvolver este trabalho, utilizou-se, como suporte teórico, principalmente, o búlgaro Tzvetan Todorov, que compreende o fantástico como um gênero proveniente de fatores que contrariam os fenômenos regidos por leis naturais, o que propicia dúvidas acerca desses fatores. Em decorrência disso, busca-se a compreensão em gêneros vizinhos, quais sejam: o estranho e / ou maravilhoso. Será ainda utilizado o estudo proposto pela francesa Irène Bessière, que entende o relato fantástico amparado em padrões socioculturais para fomentar o entendimento da imbricação dos dois campos: o natural e o sobrenatural. O trabalho está dividido em quatro capítulos: o primeiro traz algumas informações sobre a vida de Inglês de Sousa, um curto panorama do Realismo/Naturalismo e a estruturação do cânone; o segundo é constituído de uma visão conceitual tanto do fantástico quanto dos índices de estranhamento insertos no texto literário; o terceiro põe em evidência as obras de Sousa, como exemplo de literatura marcada pelo fantástico e pelo imaginário, e uma teia narrativa, cujo centro é o conto “Acauã”, além de uma comparação entre a narrativa “Acauã” de Sousa e a de Nery; e o quarto capítulo consiste em uma proposta de análise do conto fantástico “Acauã” sob a reflexão de Felipe Furtado.

Romance Negro de Rubem Fonseca: conto fantástico ou narrativa policial?

Este artigo analisa o conto Romance Negro, de Rubem Fonseca, a partir do duplo sentido que o autor dá à expressão roman noir, a qual remete, em literatura, seja ao gênero que se desenvolveu no pré-romantismo inglês da segunda metade do século XVIII, seja a um tipo de romance policial americano do século XX chamado de noir. Aproveitando essa dualidade do termo, o autor cria uma narrativa híbrida ao mesclar dois gêneros: o romance gótico e a narrativa policial.

Procurement selection in the public sector : a tale of two states.

The decision as to which procurement system to adopt is a complex and challenging task for clients of construction projects. Despite a plethora of tools and techniques available for selecting a procurement method, clients are still uncertain about what method to adopt for a given construction project to achieve success. This paper examines ‘how and why’ procurement methods are selected by public sector clients in Queensland (QLD) and Western Australia (WA). Findings from workshops with senior managers in procurement selection revealed that traditional lump sum methods (TLS) are preferred even though alternative forms could be better suited for a given project. Participants of the workshops agreed that alternative procurement forms should be considered for projects but an embedded culture of uncertainty avoidance meant the selection of TLS methods. It was perceived that only a limited number of contractors operating in the marketplace have the resources and experience to deliver projects using the non-traditional methods.

Using the imagination : consumer evoking and thematizing of the fantastic imaginary

This article explores the process by which consumers evoke and thematize the fantastic imaginary when playing a fantasy-based trading card game. Interviews with 15 informants, all players of Magic: The Gathering, serve as data. The result is a new framework that reveals how the fantastic imaginary is evoked and thematized. A typology of thematizing strategies employed by consumers is also presented. Implications are discussed in relation to consumer research, imagination theory, literary theory of the evoked fantastic imaginary, and the imaginary in play.

A Malaysian tale : pre-service teacher education and ICT integration for a better world

The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education is often a topic of much discussion within all sectors of education with educators and educational researchers continually looking for innovative ways of using these technologies to support and enhance student outcomes in education. Consequently, Malaysia is no exception to this and as the Ministry of Education (MOE), Malaysia strives to meet its government’s Vision 2020, educational reform across all educational sectors has become imperative. ICT will play an integral role in the educational reform process and teacher education programs are no exception to this. ICT and capacity building will play an important role in the re-conceptualisation of teacher education programs. This paper reports on how a collaborative capacity building project between two Malaysian teacher education Institutes and an Australian University has given lecturers and pre-service teachers an opportunity to redefine their use of ICT in their prospective teaching areas of science, mathematics and design and technology. It also highlights the positive capacity building programs that occurred between both Australian university lecturers and Malaysian Institute lecturers and how this contributed to the effective integration and use of ICT.

Understanding the creative economy : a tale of two cities clusters

This article investigates underlying constraints within China’s creative economy. Drawing on two studies of creative clusters in Suzhou and Foshan, it identifies the importance of knowledge transfer and internationalization to the generation of higher value-added products and services. Both examples illustrate relationships between resources, activities, routines and entrepreneurship. The article argues that the examples notwithstanding, the vast majority of what is accounted for in data collection as China’s creative industries are more appropriately cultural industries. The focus on cultural industries drives local development and increases land values but the benefits are rarely dispersed internationally or into the broader economy.

The Australian election survey: the tale of the rabbit-less hat. Voting behaviour in 2007

This paper examines voter attitudes and behaviour at the 2007 Australian federal election., using data from the Australian Election Study. It considers socio-demographic factors as well as the role of policy issues and voter evaluations of the party leaders. The paper concludes that issues, such as the government's WorkChoices policy, as well as health and leadership contributed to Labor's victory.

Competition laws and policies in China and Hong Kong : a tale of two regulatory journeys

Reviews the background to China's enactment of the Anti-Monopoly Law in 2007 and compares the debate surrounding the proposed introduction of similar legislation in Hong Kong. Examines the main issues arising during the Law's 13 year drafting stage, its key provisions and the remaining areas of uncertainty concerning its enforcement. Discusses ongoing efforts to introduce competition law regulations in Hong Kong, the main features of the draft General Competition Law and the shortcomings of its approach to penalties and exemptions.
