Small paper notebook with a handwritten copy of a Latin text titled “Quaedam Theses extractae potissimii ex Enchiridio Metaphisico” attributed to John Clark and J. Remington and copied by a Harvard student, likely Richard Dana (Harvard AB 1718). The text is a précis of sections of Jean Le Clerc's "Ontologia et Pneumatologia" prepared by Harvard Tutor Jonathan Remington (Harvard AB 1696). The paper cover is inscribed “Carpenter” and the first page includes the inscriptions “Rosewell Saltonstall,” “Ezra Carpenter,” and "R. Dana” indicating the book was once owned by Harvard students Richard Dana (Harvard AB 1718), Roswell Saltonstall (Harvard AB 1720), and Ezra Carpenter (Harvard AB 1720).

This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Topographische Vorstellung der neuen russischen Haupt-Residenz und See-Stadt St. Petersburg : samt ihrer zu erst aufgerichten Vestug welche von Ihro Czaar. Maj. Baptist Homann. It was published by Io. Baptist Homann ca. 1718. Scale [ca. 1:25,000]. Map in German. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the 'Pulkovo 1995 Gauss Kruger Zone 6N' coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, drainage, built-up areas and selected buildings, fortification, ground cover, and more. Relief is shown by hachures. Includes text, index, inset: Charte des Neva-Stroms von der Ladogischen biss in die Ost. See allwo St. Petersburg, and view: Crohn Schlot. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from The Harvard Map Collection as part of the Imaging the Urban Environment project. Maps selected for this project represent major urban areas and cities of the world, at various time periods. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features at a large scale. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates, scales, and purposes.

This notebook is missing at least one page, as it begins in the midst of a problem. It contains extensive notes on logarithms and various related examples, problems, and calculations. Prince made notes on the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of logarithms, as well as some notes on navigation. The last two pages of this notebook contain a draft of a letter from Prince to an unnamed gentleman in London, thanking him for his financial support. This is believed to have been written in June 1747, when Prince arrived in Portsmouth, England "without one six pence in [his] pocket & without Hat, Coat, Breeches, Shirts, Stockings or shoes fit to come up to London with." In the letter, he thanks this donor for his support and describes in detail his situation and the challenges facing him in leaving the Navy and beginning missionary work. He refers several times to Dr. Philip Bearcroft, the Secretary of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, who was responsible for his approval as a Missionary to the Moskito tribe.

The first two pages of this notebook contain a comparative chronology of the reign of Augustus, outlined in two columns. One column outlines the chronology according to ecclesiastical scholar Laurence Echard, and the other column outlines the chronology according to William Cave. The rest of the notebook contains extensive entries on the following subjects, with related rules, problems, and illustrations: fractions, decimals, arithmetical progression, geometrical progression, "disjunct proportion, or ye Golden Rule," signs and symbols, integers, geometrical definitions, and Euclidian geometry.

This heavily illustrated notebook contains entries on the following topics: geometrical definitions and axioms, geographical and astronomical definitions, compasses, plain sailing, parallel sailing, and Mercator's sailing. It also contains pages designated for notes on "Currents, Lee Way, & Variation," but these pages have been left blank. The back cover contains calculations which appear to relate to charting a course from Jamaica to "Lizzard."

M r= 975.9, orthorhombic, Pnna, a = 20.262 (3), b= 15.717 (2), c= 15.038 (1)A, V= 4788.97 A 3, z = 4, D x = 1.35 Mg m -3, Cu Kct radiation, 2 = 1.5418 A, /t = 2.79 mm -1, F(000) -= 2072, T = 293 K, R = 0.08, 3335 observed reflections. The molecular structure and the crystal packing are similar to those observed in the nonactin complexes of sodium thiocyanate and potassium thiocyanate. The eight metal-O distances are nearly the same in the potassium complex whereas the four distances involving carbonyl O atoms are shorter than the remaining four involving the tetrahydrofuran-ring O atoms in the Na and the Ca complexes. This observation can be explained in terms of the small ionic radii of Na + and Ca 2+, and leads to a plausible structural rationale for the stronger affinity of nonactin for K + than for the other two metal ions.

Raman spectra of natrouranospinite complemented with infrared spectra were studied and related to the structure of the mineral. Observed bands were assigned to the stretching and bending vibrations of (UO2)2+ and (AsO4)3- units and of water molecules. U-O bond lengths in uranyl and O-H…O hydrogen bond lengths were calculated from the Raman and infrared spectra.
