HigWy efficient DCJTB-doped device was realized by enhanced electron injection and exciton confinement. A fluorine end-capped linear phenylene/oxadiazole oligomer 2,5-bis(4-fluorobiphenyl-4'-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (1) and a trifluoromethyl end-capped oligomer 2,5-bis(4-trifluoromethylbiphenyl-4'-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (2) were designed and incorporated as an electron transporting/hole blocking material in the device structure ITO/NPB (60 mn)/DCJTB:Alq(3) (0.5%, 10 nm)/1 or 2 (20 nm)/Alq(3) (30 mn)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm). The devices showed highly efficient red luminescence. In particular, the device based on 1 achieved pure red luminescence at 620 run originating from DCJTB, with a narrow FWHI of 65 nm, maximal brightness of 13,300 cd/m(2) at voltage of 20.8 V and current density of ca. 355 mA/cm(2). High current and power efficiencies (> 3.6 cd/A. 1.01m/W) were retained within a wide range of current densities. Our results show efficient and stable DCJTB-doped red electroluminescence could be anticipated for practical applications by taking advantage of the present approaches. The control experiments using BCP were also studied.

Raman spectroelectrochemical and X-ray crystallographic studies have been made for the binuclear copper(I) complex, [(Ph(3)P)(2)Cu(dpq)Cu(PPh(3))(2)][BF4](2), where dpq is the bridging ligand 2,3-di(2-pyridyl)quinoxaline. The X-ray data show that the pyridine rings are twisted out of plane with respect to the quinoxaline ring which is itself non-planar. The UV/VIS spectra of the metal-to-ligand charge-transfer excited state and those of the electrochemically reduced complex are similar. The resonance-Raman spectrum of the latter species exhibits little change in the frequency of the pyridinylquinoxaline inter-ring C-C bond stretching mode, compared to the ground electronic state. This suggests minimum change in the inter-ring C-C bond order in the electrochemically or charge-transfer generated radical anion. Semiempirical molecular-orbital calculations on both the neutral dpq and radical anion show two near-degenerate lowest unoccupied orbitals in the neutral species. One is strongly bonding across the inter-ring C-C bond while the other is almost nun-bonding. The Raman data suggest that it is this latter orbital which is populated in the transient and electrochemical experiments.

Metallo-beta-lactamases (m beta l) and phosphotriesterase (PTE) are zinc(II) enzymes, which hydrolyze the beta-lactam antibiotics and toxic organophosphotriesters, respectively. In the present work, we have synthesized a few asymmetric phenolate-based ligands by sequential Mannich reaction and their corresponding zinc(II) complexes. These zinc(II) complexes were studied for their m beta l and PTE activities. It is shown that the zinc(II) complexes can hydrolyze oxacillin, the beta-lactam antibiotic, at much higher rates as compared to the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl diphenylphosphate (PNPDPP), the phosphotriester. Among the complexes studied, the binuclear asymmetric complex 1 having a water molecule coordinated to one of the zinc(II) ions exhibits much better mbl activity than the mononuclear complexes. However, the mononuclear zinc(II) complexes having labile chloride ions exhibit significant PTE activity, which can be ascribed to the replacement of chloride ions by hydroxide ions during hydrolysis reactions. The polynuclear copper(II) complex [{Cu2L(O2CC5H4N)}. C2H5OH](x) (1), where H3L is a 1∶2 Schiff base derived from 1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol and salicylaldehyde, has been prepared and structurally characterized. The structure consists of a one-dimensional zigzag chain in which the binuclear [Cu2L](+) units are covalently linked by isonicotinate ligands to give a syndiotactic arrangement of the copper ions protruding outside the chain. In the basic unit, the copper(II) centres are bridged by an alkoxo and a carboxylato ligand, giving a Cu ... Cu distance of 3.492(3) Angstrom and a Cu-O-Cu angle of 130.9(2)degrees. While one copper centre has a square-planar geometry, the other copper is square-pyramidal with the pyridine nitrogen being the axial ligand. The visible electronic spectrum of 1 shows a broad d-d band at 615 nm. The complex shows a rhombic X-band EPR spectral pattern in the polycrystalline phase at 77 K. Magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range 22 to 295 K demonstrate the antiferromagnetic behaviour of 1. A theoretical fit to the magnetic data is based on a model assuming 1 as an equimolar mixture of copper atoms belonging to an antiferromagnetically coupled one-dimensional Heisenberg chain with the other copper atoms outside the chain behaving like paramagnetic centres.

A novel neodymium pentafluoropropionate binuclear complex, Nd(C(2)F(5)COO)(3)Dipy (Dipy: 2,2'-dipyridyl), was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. At a concentration of 0.2 M in DMSO-d(6), the Judd-Ofelt parameters (Omega(2), Omega(4), Omega(6)) were calculated from the UV-Vis spectrum. According to the small value of Omega(2) and the zero splitting energy of (4)F/(3/2) level, a symmetric ligand field of the complex was confirmed in DMSO-d(6). Strong emission of the complex in DMSO-d(6) at 1057 nm with a decay time about 1.3 mu s were detected when excited at 800 nm pumped by a laser diode. The stimulated emission cross-section of (4)F(3/2) -> (4)I(11/2) fluorescence transition was 2.36 x 10 (20) cm(2) and comparable with some laser glasses, which indicated good radiative properties of this neodymium pentafluoropropionate binuclear complex in liquid matrix. The present paper covers the syntheses of 1,8-adipoylamido-bis(1,10-phenanthroline-5-yl)(bphaa) and its binuclear complex {[(bpy)(2)Ru](2)(bphaa)} (PF6)(4), where bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine. The two novel compounds were confirmed by means of elemental analysis, IR, and LD-MS and H-1 NMR, and H-1 NMR spectra were completely assigned in virtue of H-1-H-1 COSY. chemical behavior of the binuclear Ru (I) complex was obtained using cyclic and voltammetry. Its photophysical property was investigated by electronic absorption, excitation and emission spectra.

This paper derives a general procedure for the numerical solution of the Lindblad equations that govern the coherences arising from multicoloured light interacting with a multilevel system. A systematic approach to finding the conservative and dissipative terms is derived and applied to the laser cooling of p-block elements. An improved numerical method is developed to solve the time-dependent master equation and results are presented for transient cooling processes. The method is significantly more robust, efficient and accurate than the standard method and can be applied to a broad range of atomic and molecular systems. Radiation pressure forces and the formation of dynamic dark states are studied in the gallium isotope 66Ga.

The ligand 2,2'-[(E)-diazene-1,2-diyldicarbonothioyl]diphenol has been synthesised in situ by aerial oxidation of o-hydroxythiobenzhydrazide [H(htbh)] in presence of rhodium(III) in DMSO. Each ligand binds two RhO2+ ions through its N and S atoms and the O atom of its deprotonated hydroxy group. Each RhO2+ contains two cis-Rh = O bonds. The sixth coordination site of each rhodium(v) is occupied by the O of DMSO.

The mononuclear oxidovanadium(V) complex VO(OEt)L (2), where L2- is the dianion of a diprotic tridentate ONO donor ligand, 2-hydroxyacetophenone-2-aminobenzoylhydrazone (H2L), has been synthesized by oxido-bridge splitting of the corresponding binuclear complex V2O3L2 (1) and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, together with electrochemical and spectral studies. Splitting of the oxido-bridge was effected by refluxing 1 with excess triphenylphosphine in ethanol medium. The crystal structure of 2 is compared with that of the precursor binuclear complex 1.
