We study the relation between the number of firms and market power in experimental oligopolies. Price competition under decreasing returns involves a wide interval of pure strategy equilibrium prices. We present results of an experiment in which two, three and four identical firms repeatedly interact in this environment. Less collusion with more firms leads to lower average prices. With more than two firms, the predominant market price is 24. A simple imitation model captures this phenomenon. For the long run, the model predicts that prices converge to the Walrasian outcome, but for the intermediate term the modal price is 24

A well–known implication of microeconomic theory is that sunk costs should have no effect on decision making. We test this hypothesis with a human–subjects experiment. Students recruited from graduate business courses, with an average of over six years of work experience, played the role of firms in a repeated price–setting duopoly game in which both firms had identical capacity constraints and costs, including a sunk cost that varied across experimental sessions over six different values. We find, contrary to the prediction of microeconomic theory, that subjects’ pricing decisions show sizable differences across treatments. The effect of the sunk cost is non–monotonic: as it increases from low to medium levels, average prices decrease, but as it increases from medium to high levels, average prices increase. These effects are not apparent initially, but develop quickly and persist throughout the game. Cachon and Camerer’s (1996) loss avoidance is consistent with both effects, while cost–based pricing predicts only the latter effect, and is inconsistent with the former.

We present an overlapping generations model that explains price dispersion among Catalonian healthcare insurance firms. The model shows that firms with different premium policies can coexist. Furthermore, if interest rates are low, firms that apply equal premium to all insureds can charge higher average prices than insurers that set premiums according to the risk of insured. The aim of this study was to find out the benefits of centralized procurement. Research began with description of sourcing process and tools used in it. In this process the final tendering was done with e-auction. Due the fact that e-auction is unknown for most people, there is also need to explain when it can be used and what are the pros and cons. In the end of the study the pros and cons of the centralized sourcing process were analysed. This research was qualitative and that is why the results can’t be generalised to all other situations. Spend-analysis, Cost Break Down and Kraljic Matrix were used during the sourcing process. Process began with product group analysis- After that the financial and strategic significance was analysed. After analyses first quotations were asked and according to the results suppliers were eliminated and the selected ones were invited to e-auction. E-auction is an event where suppliers bid in a live online situation against each other to have the lowest current price. Benefits of it are fast sourcing process, discovering the true market price and information transparency. In the other hand the biggest problem comes from weakened supplier relationships. Average prices degreased 26 % from the 2009 price level and acquired price level was over 20 % lover that prices asked by individual projects. In a e-auction only moderate 1,34 % saving was acquired, but it also had other benefits as increasing the internal interest towards it.

This study aimed to determine the periods of weed interference in the first cycle of 'Fécula Branca' cassava. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design, with four repetitions. The treatments consisted of eight periods of weed control (25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 175 days after planting - DAP) and eight periods of coexistence between the weed community and the crop (25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 175), besides control without weeds and control with weeds until harvest (322 DAP). The predominant weed species with higher relative importance were: Avena sativa, Sorghum halepense, Conyza Canadensis, Euphorbia heterophylla, Raphanus raphanistrum, and Commelina benghalensis. It was concluded that, accepting losses of 1% for root and starch production, the period before interference (PBI) was 66 and 70 DAP; the total period of interference prevention (TPIP) was 88 and 91 DAP and the critical period of interference (CPI) was between 66-88 and 70-91 DAP, respectively. For losses of 5% for root and starch production, the PBI was 87 and 88 DAP, and the TPIP 80 and 81 DAP, respectively; in this case, there was no CPI. Considering the average prices of R$ 218.90 t-1 and R$ 1,191.84 t-1, paid in 2012 for root and starch production, respectively, and control cost of R$ 300.00 ha-1 , the root and starch production for the period prior to economic loss (WEEPPEL) could be estimated to be 20 and 24 DAP, respectively.
