Análise de características de crescimento da raça Simental

Registros de pesos ao nascimento, aos 100, 205, 365 e 550 dias de idade, de 7587 animais controlados pela Associação Brasileira de Criadores da Raça Simental, criados em 150 fazendas e em diversos estados do Brasil, foram usados para estimar os componentes de variância e os parâmetros genéticos dessas características. O peso padronizado aos 205 dias (desmama) foi usado como característica âncora. O aplicativo MTDFREML, sob modelo animal completo, foi utilizado para análise dos dados. As estimativas de herdabilidades total, direta e materna e as correlações genéticas entre os efeitos materno e direto e os maternos permanentes foram obtidas mediante análises bicaracterísticas. Os seguintes valores foram encontrados: 0,23, 0,22, 0,05, -0,10, 0,07 para peso ao nascer; 0,09, 0,08, 0,00, 0,85, 0,17 para peso aos 100 dias de idade; 0,13, 0,13, 0,05, -0,17, 0,02 para peso aos 205 dias de idade; 0,15, 0,19, 0,06, -0,41, 0,03 para peso aos 365 dias de idade. A herdabilidade direta estimada para o peso aos 550 dias de idade, na análise bicaracterística com o peso à desmama, foi de 0,24. Exceto para peso ao nascimento (moderado), as correlações genética, fenotípica e ambiente entre peso à desmama e as outras características foram altas e positivas. Os efeitos maternos foram importantes e devem ser incluídos nos programas de melhoramento da raça Simental.

Effect of the human leukocyte antigen HLA-DRB1 and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide on the outcome of rheumatoid arthritis patients

Our objective was to determine whether the presence of the human leukocyte antigen HLA-DRB1 locus is associated with production of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (anti-CCP Abs) and to what extent they are associated with increased susceptibility to and severity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in Egyptian patients. Twenty-nine RA patients gave informed consent to participate in a case-control study that was approved by the Ain Shams University Medical Ethics Committee. RA disease activity and severity were determined using the simplified disease activity index and Larsen scores, respectively. We used a wide scale national study on the pattern of HLA typing in normal Egyptians as a control study. Anti-CCP Abs and HLA-DRB1 typing were determined for all subjects. The alleles most strongly associated with RA were HLA-DRB1 [*01 , *04 and *06] (41.4%). RA patients with serum anti-CCP Ab titers above 60 U/mL had a significantly higher frequency of HLA-DRB1*01 (58.3%) and HLA-DRB1*04 alleles (83.3%). Significant positive correlations were found between serum and synovial anti-CCP Ab titer, RA disease activity, and severity (r = 0.87, 0.66 and 0.63, respectively; P < 0.05). HLA-DRB1 SE+ alleles [*01 and *04] were highly expressed among Egyptian RA patients. The presence of these alleles was associated with higher anti-CCP Ab titer, active and severe RA disease. Early determination of HLA-DRB1 SE+ alleles and serum anti-CCP Ab could facilitate the prediction of the clinical course and prognosis of RA when first evaluated leading to better disease control.

Memorias de la transición en la derecha chilena.

Comprobar el peso de la memoria histórica chilena, en la transición, sobre los hechos que marcaron los últimos treinta años del país, patentes por el temor a que los hechos ocurridos, señalados por el golpe de Estado, volvieran a repetirse. El método de investigación histórico caracteriza a este trabajo, el cual se desarrolla mediante cinco capítulos. El primer capítulo, configura un marco teórico que mediante una perspectiva crítica, aborda términos como 'memoria colectiva' y 'memoria histórica'. En el segundo capítulo, se desarrolla una revisión de la memoria durante la dictadura, para lo cual se tiene muy en cuenta el trabajo del investigador estadounidense Steve Stern. Los conflictos de la memoria colectiva en el Chile 'post-dictadura', definen el tercer capítulo. El cuarto capítulo, presenta las memorias del caso Pinochet. Por último, se presenta un capitulo descriptivo del origen y desarrollo de la 'Alianza por Chile'. No se puede saber lo que cada uno es si no se sabe cómo se ha llegado a ser lo que se es. Aparece en este momento la dimensión política de la historia y de la memoria: quien logra minar o debilitar ciertas memorias en función de afirmar otras, tiene el poder sobre las identidades que son reconocidas o negadas en una sociedad.

Educação para o desenvolvimento sustentável: o papel da Universidade

The University is responsible for the stablishment of citizens with critical thinking, based on current concepts, capable of a dynamic and participative attitude in the community in which these professinals will be inserted. Education at environmental sustainability, permeated by the articulation among knowledge, social, and cultural phenomena, brings the challenge of incorporating skills, providing essential values not only for understanding the historical relations between human beings and the environment, but also to improving the quality of life. The “World Conference on Higher Education in the Twenty-first Century: Vision and Action" guides the educational process by its mission to train citizens professionals, highly informed, motivated, integrated and able to create a society based on love of humanity and wisdom. The balancing among the basic functions of teaching, research and extension within the University contributes to the student to take ownership of the construction of his own knowledge in a perspective of integral formation of the human being, aware of his social responsibility and policy for a society environmentally sound. This paper aims to, guided by literature review, present some considerations on the role of the University in education for environmental sustainability.
