The contributions of this thesis fall into three areas of certificateless cryptography. The first area is encryption, where we propose new constructions for both identity-based and certificateless cryptography. We construct an n-out-of- n group encryption scheme for identity-based cryptography that does not require any special means to generate the keys of the trusted authorities that are participating. We also introduce a new security definition for chosen ciphertext secure multi-key encryption. We prove that our construction is secure as long as at least one authority is uncompromised, and show that the existing constructions for chosen ciphertext security from identity-based encryption also hold in the group encryption case. We then consider certificateless encryption as the special case of 2-out-of-2 group encryption and give constructions for highly efficient certificateless schemes in the standard model. Among these is the first construction of a lattice-based certificateless encryption scheme. Our next contribution is a highly efficient certificateless key encapsulation mechanism (KEM), that we prove secure in the standard model. We introduce a new way of proving the security of certificateless schemes based that are based on identity-based schemes. We leave the identity-based part of the proof intact, and just extend it to cover the part that is introduced by the certificateless scheme. We show that our construction is more efficient than any instanciation of generic constructions for certificateless key encapsulation in the standard model. The third area where the thesis contributes to the advancement of certificateless cryptography is key agreement. Swanson showed that many certificateless key agreement schemes are insecure if considered in a reasonable security model. We propose the first provably secure certificateless key agreement schemes in the strongest model for certificateless key agreement. We extend Swanson's definition for certificateless key agreement and give more power to the adversary. Our new schemes are secure as long as each party has at least one uncompromised secret. Our first construction is in the random oracle model and gives the adversary slightly more capabilities than our second construction in the standard model. Interestingly, our standard model construction is as efficient as the random oracle model construction.

Disposal of large quantities of fly ash poses a major environmental problem. To enhance its utilization, fly ash is considered for stabilizing of expansive soft soils. Improving the strength of soil, which is of major importance, depends on the pozzolanic nature of fly ash. Fly ashes with high pozzolanic reactivity are widely used but those with less pozzolanic reactivity are greatly inhibited. As the strength development in natural expansive soil considered in this investigation is very less with different percentages of fly ash, an attempt is made to increase the same by addition of lime along with fly ash. Based on several tests conducted, the optimum lime contents for fly ash and soils are 5% and 8% respectively. The strength of compacted soil with different fly ash contents of 10 to 40% with lime contents of 5% and 8% are determined after curing for different periods. The strength improvement for any soil-fly ash mixture, which is substantial with 5% of lime, is further improved with 8% of lime. The strength of soil-fly ash mixtures with any lime content increases with curing period.

Pretende analizar la participación de los alumnos en las clases de EGB y de Educación Primaria y las concepciones de los estudiantes de Magisterio sobre dicha participación. La muestra total es de cincuenta aulas y otros tantos estudiantes de Magisterio correspondientes a tres cursos escolares. Analiza de forma teórica la participación del estudiante en la enseñanza y estudia el trabajo en las aulas de enseñanza básica y la formación del profesorado. La investigación empírica se realiza a partir del material de observación aportado por los estudiantes de Magisterio. El método empleado es mixto (cualitativo y cuantitativo), o sea, de casos y muestras, así como en la observación de la participación estudiantil y en el análisis de contenido del profesor-investigador. Los resultados son: en las aulas hay un predominio muy acentuado de las actividades no participativas; las materias básicas del currículo y los cursos intermedios de la escolaridad son los menos participativos; las concepciones de los estudiantes sobre la participación no contemplan la toma de decisiones de los alumnos en sus procesos de aprendizaje; y, en general, hay una coherencia de los estudiantes y su propia docencia, y la teoría positivista dominante. Concluye con la necesidad de un cambio profundo en los niveles estudiados.

We describe an approach to ion implantation in which the plasma and its electronics are held at ground potential and the ion beam is formed and injected energetically into a space held at high negative potential. The technique allows considerable savings both economically and technologically, rendering feasible ion implantation applications that might otherwise not be possible for many researchers and laboratories. Here, we describe the device and the results of tests demonstrating Nb implantation at 90 keV ion energy and dose about 2 x 10(16) cm(-2). (C) 2012 American Institute of Physics.
