Photo luminescence: A probe for short, medium and long-range self-organization order in ZrTiO4 oxide
Resumo:
Photoluminescent disordered ZrTiO4 powders were obtained by the polymeric precursor soft-chemical method. This oxide system (ordered and disordered) was characterized by photoluminescence, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and UV vis absorption experiments. The UV absorption tail formation in the disordered oxides was related to the diminution of optical band gap. In the disordered phase, this oxide displayed broad band photoluminescence caused by change in coordination number of titanium and zirconium with oxygen atoms. The gap decreased from 3.09 eV in crystalline oxide to 2.16 eV in disordered oxide. The crystalline oxide presented an orthorhombic alpha-PbO2-type structure in which Zr4+ and Ti4+ were randomly distributed in octahedral coordination polyhedra with oxygen atoms. The amorphous-crystalline transition occurred at almost 700 degrees C, at which point the photoluminescence vanished. The Raman peak at close to 80-200 cm(-1) indicated the presence of locally ordered Ti-O-n and Zr-O-n polyhedra in disordered photoluminescent oxides. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We have carried out dielectric and Raman spectroscopy studies at the 298-623 K temperature range in polycrystalline Pb0.70Sr0.30TiO3 thin films grown by a soft chemical method. The diffuse phase-transition behavior of the thin films was observed by means of the dielectric constant versus temperature curves, which show a broad peak. Such behavior was confirmed later by Raman spectroscopy measurements up to 823 K, indicating that a diffuselike phase transition takes place at around 548-573 K. The damping factor of the E(1TO) soft mode was calculated using the damped simple harmonic oscillator model. on the other hand, Raman modes persist above the tetragonal to cubic phase transition temperature although all optical modes should be Raman inactive. The origin of these modes was interpreted in terms of a breakdown of the microscopic local cubic symmetry by chemical disorder. The lack of a well-defined transition temperature and the presence of broad bands at some temperature interval above the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase-transition temperature suggested a diffuse nature of the phase transition. This result corroborates the dielectric constant versus temperature data, which showed a broad ferroelectric phase transition in this thin film. (C) 2004 American Institute of Physics.

We have performed dielectric and micro-Raman spectroscopy measurements in the 298 - 673 K temperature range in polycrystalline Pb0.50Sr0.50TiO3 thin films prepared by a soft chemical method. The phase transition have been investigated by dielectric measurements at various frequencies during the heating cycle. It was found that the temperature corresponding to the peak value of the dielectric constant is frequency-independent, indicating a non-relaxor ferroelectric behavior. However, the dielectric constant versus temperature curves associated with the ferroelectric to paraelectric phase transition showed a broad maximum peak at around 433 K. The observed behavior is explained in terms of a diffuse phase transition. The obtained Raman spectra indicate the presence of a local symmetry disorder, due to a higher strontium concentration in the host lattice. The monitoring of some modes, conducted in the Pb0.50Sr0.50TiO3 thin films, showed that the ferroelectric tetragonal phase undergoes a transition to the paraelectric cubic phase at around 423 K. However, the Raman activity did not disappear, as would be expected from a transition to the cubic paraelectric phase. The strong Raman spectrum observed for this cubic phase is indicative that a diffuse-type phase transition is taking place. This behavior is attributed to distortions of the perovskite structure, allowing the persistence of low-symmetry phase features in cubic phase high above the transition temperature. This result is in contrast to the forbidden first-order Raman spectrum, which would be expected from a cubic paraelectric phase, such as the one observed at high temperature in pure PbTiO3 perovskite.

In this work the La1.8Eu0.2O3 coating on nanometric alpha-alumina, alpha-Al2O3@La1.8Eu0.2O3, was prepared for the first time by a soft chemical method. The powder was heat-treated at 100, 400, 800 and 1200 degrees C for 2 h. X-ray powder diffraction patterns (XRD), transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), emission and excitation spectra, as well as Eu3+, lifetime were used to characterize the material and to follow the changes in structure as the heating temperature increases. The Eu3+ luminescence data revealed the characteristic transitions D-5(0) --> F-7(J) (J = 0, 1 and 3) of Eu3+ at around 580, 591 and 613 nm, respectively, when the powders were excited by 393 nm. The red color of the samples changed to yellow when the powder was annealed at 1200 degrees C. The decrease in the (D-5(0) --> F-7(2))/(D-5(0) --> F-7(1)) ratio from around 5.0 for samples heated at lower temperatures to 3.1 for samples annealed at 1200 degrees C is consistent with a higher symmetry of the Eu3+ at higher temperature. The excitation spectra of the samples also confirms this change by the presence of a more intense and broad band at around 317 nm, instead of the presence of the characteristic peak at 393 mn, which corresponds to the F-7(0) --> L-5(6) transition of the Eu3+. The lifetimes of the D-5(0) --> F-7(2) transition of Eu3+ for the samples heat-treated at 100, 400, 800 and 1200 degrees C was evaluated as 0.57, 0.72, 0.43 and 0.31 ms, respectively. SrBi2Ta2O9 ferroelectric thick films prepared by electrophoretic deposition using aqueous suspension
Resumo:
SrBi2Ta2O9 ferroelectric thick films were prepared by electrophoretic deposition (EPD). For that, ceramic powders were prepared by chemical method in order to obtain compounds with chemical homogeneity. The polymeric precursor method was used for the synthesis of the SrBi2Ta2O9 powder. The crystallographic structure of the powder was examined by X-ray diffraction, and the surface area was determined by single point BET adsorption. The 0.03 vol.% suspension was formed by dispersing the powder in water using two different polymers as dispersants: an ester polyphosphate (C213) and an ammonium polyacrilate (Darvan 821-A). It was investigated the influence of the different dispersants in the surface properties of the powder by zeta potential measurements. The films were deposited on platinum-coated alumina and Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by a 4 mA constant current, for 10 min, using two parallel electrodes placed at a separation distance of 3 min in the suspension. Several cycles of deposition-drying of the deposit were carried out until reaching the desired thickness. After thermal treatment at temperatures ranging from 700 to 1000 degreesC, the films were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy for the microstructure observation. a-b axis-oriented, lanthanum doped Bi4Ti3O12 (BLT) thin films with a TiO2 rutile buffer layer deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates were grown by the soft chemical method. Butterfly dielectric behavior has been achieved and can be ascribed to the ferroelectric domain switching. The remanent polarization and the coercive voltage for the film deposited on TiO2 buffer layer were 22.2 mu C/cm(2) and 1.8 V, respectively. Random-oriented BLT films showed a reduction in switching polarization when compared to the a-b axis-oriented films. Due to the excellent physical properties, these films are a promising candidate for use in lead-free applications in ferroelectric devices. (c) 2006 American Institute of Physics.

It is very important for the building of the SAW devices to study dielectric and ferroelectrics properties because every SAW device is based in piezoelectric effect that it is made up to transform an electric sign in the mechanical or acoustic sign and a mechanical or acoustic sign in an electric sign. Thus, the purpose of the present work is to prepare PbZr 0,53Ti0.47O3 (PZT) and PbTiO3 (PT) thin films on the Si (100) substrates across spin-coating using a chemical method based in polymeric precursors. After conventional treatment in the furnace, the films were characterized by impedance spectroscopy and hysteresis loops to know its dielectric and ferroelectric properties.

Lead zirconate titanate Pb(Zr 0.50Ti 0.50)O 3 (PZT) thin films were deposited by a polymeric chemical method on Pt(111)/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates to understand the mechanisms of phase transformations and the effect of film thickness on the structure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties in these films. PZT films pyrolyzed at temperatures higher than 350 °C present a coexistence of pyrochlore and perovskite phases, while only perovskite phase grows in films pyrolyzed at temperatures lower than 300 °C. For pyrochlore-free PZT thin films, a small (100) orientation tendency near the film-substrate interface was observed. Finally, we demonstrate the existence of a self-polarization effect in the studied PZT thin films. Results suggest that Schottky barriers and/or mechanical coupling near the filmsubstrate interface are not primarily responsible for the observed self-polarization effect in our films. © 2012 IEEE.

A study was undertaken about the structural and photoluminescent properties at room temperature of CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) powders synthesized by a soft chemical method and heat treated between 300 and 800 °C. The decomposition of precursor powder was followed by thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Fourier transform Raman (FT-Raman) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. XRD analyses revealed that the powders annealed at 800 °C are becoming ordered and crystallize in the cubic structure. The most intense PL emission was obtained for the sample calcined at 700 °C, which is not highly disordered (300-500 °C) and neither completely ordered (800 °C). From the spectrum it is clearly visible that the lowest wavelength peak is placed around 480 nm and the highest wavelength peak at about 590 nm. The UV/vis absorption spectroscopy measurements showed the presence of intermediate energy levels in the band gap of structurally disordered powders. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.
