O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de tentar entender o contexto do menor institucionalizado, questionando até que ponto a arte na instituição é buscada pela arte; se a arte propicia a busca de identidade e influi na auto-estima do menor, e se ela contribui para a reintegraçãodo me nor na sociedade. Este estudo volta-se em sua introdução para a ca racterização da problemática do menor partindo de uma descrição sobre o SAM (Serviço de Assistência a Menores) e a FUNABEM (Fundação Nacional do Bem-Estar do Menor) para poder situar o menor institucionalizado e compreender o seu processo de institucionalização, ressaltando, nesta, dados relativos às atividades mucicais. Inicialmente, apresenta-se o resultado de estudos de teses e subsídios de livros e artigos publicados sobre o menor institucionalizado e o processo de institucional ização. A seguir o referencial teórico é explicitado abor dando-se aspectos importantes e, em especial os efeitos da institucionalização e da arte no desenvolvimento psicossocial do menor. Duas instituições foram mais de perto descritas: (SAM e FUNABEM) e, em seguida, partiu-se para a caracterização da ASSEAF (Associação de. Ex-alunos da Fundação Nacio nal do Bem-Estar do Menor), onde foram buscados os ex-alunos que participaram da pesquisa. A metodologia da pesquisa se aproxima a fenomeno lógica, tendo como sujeitos os ex-alunos do SAM e da FUNA BEM ligados à arte, os quais se encontravam alguns na ASSEAF, e outros, no Corpo de Bombei ros do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Estes ex-alunos deram seus depoimentos em situação de entrevistas semi- estrutura das. Foram realizados também discussões em grupo, levantamento de documentos e outras informações constantes dos arquivos da ASSEAF. Os resultados da análise são discutidos tendo sido feita a categorização de todo o material recolhido. Concluiu-se, do ponto de vista dos ex-alunos,que a arte musical deveria ser procurada, respondendo por uma vocação - em alguns casos isto até acontece - mas, na instituição, esta procura funciona como uma troca de vantagens e benefícios; prestígio para o aluno versus prestígio para a instituição. Nessa troca de benefícios, a arte posibilita a busca de identidade à medida em que proporciona oportunidades de realização pessoal, elevação da auto-estima, melhoria de relacionamentos, e, sobretudo, uma identificação com a música. Porém, os efeitos da prática das atividades artísticas musicais não são suficientemente consistentes no sentido de determinar a plena reintegração do menor a sociedade, pois depende de um grande número de fatores. Mesmo no plano dessa visão positiva em relação à arte musical, encontram-se evidências de ambiguidade que perpassam por todas as representações analisadas nas conclusões. Assim é que os ex-alunos, muitas vezes, reforçam o uso institucional da prática artística musical, em contraposição aos efeitos benéficos que dela advêm. E, quando falam na música como centro de sua identificação, indicam o interesse e o esforço pessoal como fatores marcantes em direção a essa possibilidade de identificação.

We give a thorough account of the various equivalent notions for \sheaf" on a locale, namely the separated and complete presheaves, the local home- omorphisms, and the local sets, and to provide a new approach based on quantale modules whereby we see that sheaves can be identi¯ed with certain Hilbert modules in the sense of Paseka. This formulation provides us with an interesting category that has immediate meaningful relations to those of sheaves, local homeomorphisms and local sets. The concept of B-set (local set over the locale B) present in [3] is seen as a simetric idempotent matrix with entries on B, and a map of B-sets as de¯ned in [8] is shown to be also a matrix satisfying some conditions. This gives us useful tools that permit the algebraic manipulation of B-sets. The main result is to show that the existing notions of \sheaf" on a locale B are also equivalent to a new concept what we call a Hilbert module with an Hilbert base. These modules are the projective modules since they are the image of a free module by a idempotent automorphism On the ¯rst chapter, we recall some well known results about partially ordered sets and lattices. On chapter two we introduce the category of Sup-lattices, and the cate- gory of locales, Loc. We describe the adjunction between this category and the category Top of topological spaces whose restriction to spacial locales give us a duality between this category and the category of sober spaces. We ¯nish this chapter with the de¯nitions of module over a quantale and Hilbert Module. Chapter three concerns with various equivalent notions namely: sheaves of sets, local homeomorphisms and local sets (projection matrices with entries on a locale). We ¯nish giving a direct algebraic proof that each local set is isomorphic to a complete local set, whose rows correspond to the singletons. On chapter four we de¯ne B-locale, study open maps and local homeo- morphims. The main new result is on the ¯fth chapter where we de¯ne the Hilbert modules and Hilbert modules with an Hilbert and show this latter concept is equivalent to the previous notions of sheaf over a locale.

Parent, L. E., Natale, W. and Ziadi, N. 2009. Compositional nutrient diagnosis of corn using the Mahalanobis distance as nutrient imbalance index. Can. J. Soil Sci. 89: 383-390. Compositional nutrient diagnosis (CND) provides a plant nutrient imbalance index (CND - r(2)) with assumed chi(2) distribution. The Mahalanobis distance D(2), which detects outliers in compositional data sets, also has a chi(2) distribution. The objective of this paper was to compare D(2) and CND - r(2) nutrient imbalance indexes in corn (Zea mays L.). We measured grain yield as well as N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn concentrations in the ear leaf at silk stage for 210 calibration sites in the St. Lawrence Lowlands [2300-2700 corn thermal units (CTU)] as well as 30 phosphorus (2300-2700 CTU; 10 sites) and 10 nitrogen (1900-2100 CTU; one site) replicated fertilizer treatments for validation. We derived CND norms as mean, standard deviation, and the inverse covariance matrix of centred log ratios (clr) for high yielding specimens (>= 9.0 Mg grain ha(-1) at 150 g H(2)O kg(-1) moisture content) in the 2300-2700 CTU zone. Using chi(2) = 17 (P < 0.05) with nine degrees of freedom (i.e., nine nutrients) as a rejection criterion for outliers and a yield threshold of 8.6 Mg ha(-1) after Cate-Nelson partitioning between low- and high-yielders in the P validation data set, D(2) misclassified two specimens compared with nine for CND -r(2). The D(2) classification was not significantly different from a chi(2) classification (P > 0.05), but the CND - r(2) classification differed significantly from chi(2) or D(2) (P < 0.001). A threshold value for nutrient imbalance could thus be derived probabilistically for conducting D(2) diagnosis, while the CND - r(2) nutrient imbalance threshold must be calibrated using fertilizer trials. In the proposed CND - D(2) procedure, D(2) is first computed to classify the specimen as possible outlier. Thereafter, nutrient indices are ranked in their order of limitation. The D(2) norms appeared less effective in the 1900-2100 CTU zone.

Plants naturally produce secondary metabolites that can be used as antimicrobials. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of Psidium cattleianum leaf extract on Streptococcus mutans. The extract (100%) was obtained by decoction of 100 g of leaves in 600 ml of deionized water. To assess killing, S. mutans biofilms were treated with water (negative control) or various extract dilutions [ 100, 50, 25% (v/v) in water] for 5 or 60 min. To evaluate the effect on protein expression, biofilms were exposed to water or 1.6% (v/v) extract for 120 min, proteins were extracted and submitted to 2-dimensional difference gel electrophoresis. Differentially expressed proteins were identified by mass spectrometry. The effect of 1.6% (v/v) extract on acid production was determined by pH measurements and compared to a water control. Viability was similar after 5 min of treatment with the 100% extract or 60 min with the 50% extract (about 0.03% survival). There were no differences in viability between the biofilms exposed to the 25 or 50% extract after 60 min of treatment (about 0.02% survival). Treatment with the 1.6% extract significantly changed protein expression. The abundance of 24 spots was decreased compared to water (p < 0.05). The extract significantly inhibited acid production (p < 0.05). It is concluded that P. cattleianum leaf extract kills S. mutans grown in biofilms when applied at high concentrations. At low concentrations it inhibits S. mutans acid production and reduces the expression of proteins involved in general metabolism, glycolysis and lactic acid production. Copyright (C) 2008 S. Fluoride was introduced into dentistry over 70 years ago, and it is now recognized as the main factor responsible for the dramatic decline in caries prevalence that has been observed worldwide. However, excessive fluoride intake during the period of tooth development can cause dental fluorosis. In order that the maximum benefits of fluoride for caries control can be achieved with the minimum risk of side effects, it is necessary to have a profound understanding of the mechanisms by which fluoride promotes caries control. In the 1980s, it was established that fluoride controls caries mainly through its topical effect. Fluoride present in low, sustained concentrations (sub-ppm range) in the oral fluids during an acidic challenge is able to absorb to the surface of the apatite crystals, inhibiting demineralization. When the pH is re-established, traces of fluoride in solution will make it highly supersaturated with respect to fluorhydroxyapatite, which will speed up the process of remineralization. The mineral formed under the nucleating action of the partially dissolved minerals will then preferentially include fluoride and exclude carbonate, rendering the enamel more resistant to future acidic challenges. Topical fluoride can also provide antimicrobial action. Fluoride concentrations as found in dental plaque have biological activity on critical virulence factors of S. mutans in vitro, such as acid production and glucan synthesis, but the in vivo implications of this are still not clear. Evidence also supports fluoride's systemic mechanism of caries inhibition in pit and fissure surfaces of permanent first molars when it is incorporated into these teeth pre-eruptively. © 2011 S. Objectives: To investigate the potential of an active attachment biofilm model as a highthroughput demineralization biofilm model for the evaluation of caries-preventive agents. Methods: Streptococcus mutans UA159 biofilms were grown on bovine dentine discs in a highthroughput active attachment model. Biofilms were first formed in a medium with high buffer capacity for 24 h and then subjected to various photodynamic therapies (PACT) using the combination of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs, Biotable (R)) and Photogem (R). Viability of the biofilms was evaluated by plate counts. To investigate treatment effects on dentine lesion formation, the treated biofilms were grown in a medium with low buffer capacity for an additional 24 h. Integrated mineral loss (IML) and lesion depth (LD) were assessed by transversal microradiography. Calcium release in the biofilm medium was measured by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Results: Compared to the water treated control group, significant reduction in viability of S. mutans biofilms was observed when the combination of LEDs and Photogem (R) was applied. LEDs or Photogem (R) only did not result in biofilm viability changes. Similar outcomes were also found for dentine lesion formation. Significant lower IML and LD values were only found in the group subjected to the combined treatment of LEDs and Photogem (R). There was a good correlation between the calcium release data and the IML or LD values. Conclusions: The high-throughput active attachment biofilm model is applicable for evaluating novel caries-preventive agents on both biofilm and demineralization inhibition. PACT had a killing effect on 24 h S. mutans biofilms and could inhibit the demineralization process. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In dieser Arbeit wurde der instabile, Neutronenarme Kern 108Sn mit Hilfe der Coulomb-Anregung bei intermediaeren Energien in inverser Kinematik studiert. Diese Methode wurde bisher zur Untersuchung der ersten angeregten 2+ Zustaende und deren E2 Zerfallsraten in Kernen mit Kernladungszahl Z< 30 angewendet. 108Sn ist somit der Kern mit der groeßten Kernladungszahl, bei dem diese Studien bisher stattfanden. Das Ziel dieses Experiments war die Messung der unbekannten reduzierten Uebergangswahrscheinlichkeit B(E2,0+ -> 2+). Der B(E2)-Wert von 0.230(57) e2b2 wurde relativ zu dem bekannten Wert des Isotops 112Sn bestimmt. Das Experiment wurde an der GSI Darmstadt mit Hilfe des RISING Detektors und des Fragmentseperators (FRS) durchgefuehrt. Sekundaere Strahlen (108Sn, 112Sn) mit einer Energie von ca. 150 MeV pro Nukleon wurden auf ein 386 mg/cm2 dickes 197Au Target geschossen. Die Projektilfragmente wurden mit Hilfe des Fragmentseparators selektiert und identifiziert. Zur Selektion des Reaktionskanals und zur Bestimmung des Winkels der gestreuten Fragmente wurde das Teilchenteleskop CATE, das sich hinter dem Target befand, verwendet. Gammastrahlung, die in Koinzidenz mit den Projektilrestkernen emittiert wurde, wurde in den Germanium-Cluster Detektoren des RISING Detektors nachgewiesen. Der gemessene B(E2,0+ -> 2+)-Wert von 108Sn ist in Uebereinstimmung mit neueren Schalenmodellrechnungen, die auf realistischen effektiven Wechselwirkungen basieren und im Rahmen eines verallgemeinerten Seniorit¨ats-Schemas erklaert werden.

This study examined how ingroup status affects the tendency for people to internalize ingroup stereotypes (i.e. self-stereotype) when expecting to interact with another individual who holds stereotypic views of them. Past research has demonstrated that people self-stereotype when they want to affiliate with another individual who holds stereotypic views of them. By self-stereotyping, individuals create a common bond or shared set of beliefs with the other individual. This line of research has not yet examinedif there are any moderators in the relationship between affiliation motivation and self-stereotyping. However, there is reason to believe that members of lower-status groups are more likely to feel the need to create this common bond through self-stereotyping because 1) they identify more closely with their social group, 2) their group identity is more salient 3) they are more aware of the expectations of others, 4) and they care more about the quality of an interaction with a member from a higher-status group. For this experiment, I recruited twenty-seven members of Alpha Chi Omega andtwenty-eight members of Delta Gamma, two sororities that are perceived to be middle-ranked (as determined by a pre-test survey). Upon arriving to the study, half the participants were informed that they would be interacting with a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, a higher-ranked sorority (as determined by a pre-test survey) and half the participants were informed that they would be interacting with a member of a Chi Omega, a lower-ranked sorority (as determined by a pre-test survey). Participants were also informed that this partner held stereotypic views of their (i.e. the participant’s)sorority. After, participants were given the Self-Stereotyping Measure in which they rated how well sixteen characteristics described themselves. The results of the series of analyses performed on participants’ ratings on the Self-Stereotyping Measure indicated that when expecting to interact with another individual, members of low-status groups self-stereotype more than members of high-statusgroups and those who do not expect to interact. Furthermore, unexpectedly, among members of high-status groups, those who expected to interact with a member of a low-status group self-stereotyped less than those who did not expect to interact. Thus, this research provides support for the hypothesis that group status is a moderator in the relationship between self-stereotyping and affiliation motivation.
