Construction organizations typically deal with large volumes of project data containing valuable information. It is found that these organizations do not use these data effectively for planning and decision-making. There are two reasons. First, the information systems in construction organizations are designed to support day-to-day construction operations. The data stored in these systems are often non-validated, nonintegrated and are available in a format that makes it difficult for decision makers to use in order to make timely decisions. Second, the organizational structure and the IT infrastructure are often not compatible with the information systems thereby resulting in higher operational costs and lower productivity. These two issues have been investigated in this research with the objective of developing systems that are structured for effective decision-making. A framework was developed to guide storage and retrieval of validated and integrated data for timely decision-making and to enable construction organizations to redesign their organizational structure and IT infrastructure matched with information system capabilities. The research was focused on construction owner organizations that were continuously involved in multiple construction projects. Action research and Data warehousing techniques were used to develop the framework. One hundred and sixty-three construction owner organizations were surveyed in order to assess their data needs, data management practices and extent of use of information systems in planning and decision-making. For in-depth analysis, Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) was selected which is in-charge of all transportation-related construction projects in the Miami-Dade county. A functional model and a prototype system were developed to test the framework. The results revealed significant improvements in data management and decision-support operations that were examined through various qualitative (ease in data access, data quality, response time, productivity improvement, etc.) and quantitative (time savings and operational cost savings) measures. The research results were first validated by MDT and then by a representative group of twenty construction owner organizations involved in various types of construction projects.

This paper analyzes the inner relations between classical sub-scheme probability and statistic probability, subjective probability and objective probability, prior probability and posterior probability, transition probability and probability of utility, and further analysis the goal, method, and its practical economic purpose which represent by these various probability from the perspective of mathematics, so as to deeply understand there connotation and its relation with economic decision making, thus will pave the route for scientific predication and decision making.

Thirteen international netballers viewed static images of scenarios taken from netball open play. Two ‘team mates’, each marked by one opponent, could be seen in each image; each team mate-opponent pair was located on opposite sides of the vertical meridian, such that a binary response was required (‘left’ or ‘right’) from the participant, in order to select a team mate to whom they would pass the ball. For each trial, a spoken word (“left”/“right”) was presented monaurally at the onset of the visual image. Spatially invalid auditory cues (i.e., in the ear contralateral to the correct passing option), reduced performance accuracy relative to valid ones. Semantically invalid cues (e.g., a call of “left” when the target was right-located), increased response times relative to valid ones. However, there were no accompanying changes in visual attention to the team mates and their markers. The effects of auditory cues on covert attentional shifts and decision-making are discussed.

This study was designed to assess sex-related differences in the selection of an appropriate strategy when facing novelty. A simple visuo-spatial task was used to investigate exploratory behavior as a specific response to novelty. The exploration task was followed by a visual discrimination task, and the responses were analyzed using signal detection theory. During exploration women selected a local searching strategy in which the metric distance between what is already known and what is unknown was reduced, whereas men adopted a global strategy based on an approximately uniform distribution of choices. Women's exploratory behavior gives rise to a notion of a secure base warranting a sense of safety while men's behavior does not appear to be influenced by risk. This sex-related difference was interpreted as a difference in beliefs concerning the likelihood of uncertain events influencing risk evaluation. Das wohl bekannteste Phänomen der Urteils- und Entscheidungsforschung im Kontext numeri-scher Urteile ist der Ankereffekt. Dieser bezeichnet die Assimilation einer numerischen Schätzung oder Prognose an einen salienten Wert, dem sogenannten Anker, auch unabhängig von dessen inhaltlicher Relevanz. Die Frage nach den Ursachen von Ankereffekten wird bis zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt kontrovers diskutiert. Die Bedeutung eines Erklärungsmodelles, dem sogenannten numerischem Priming, innerhalb dieser Diskussion ist Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit. Im Theorieteil wird zunächst der Ankereffekt, seine inhaltliche Einordnung und seine Relevanz aus theoretischer wie praktischer Sicht diskutiert. Des weiteren werden die gängigen Erklärungsmodelle zum Ankereffekt vorgestellt. Ein Schwerpunkt hierbei liegt auf einer kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Modell der selektiven Zugänglichkeit (Selective Accessibility Model, kurz: SAM), dem wohl prominentesten Modell aus Sicht der momentanen Forschung. Zwei an den Theorieteil anschließende Fragestellungen sind dann der Gegenstand des empirischen Teils der Arbeit. Zum einen soll überprüft werden, ob Ankereffekte im Standardparadigma, wie bisher angenommen, allein auf den Prozessen des SAM basieren oder ob zusätzlich auch numerisches Priming am Zustandekommen des Ankereffektes in diesem Paradigma beteiligt ist. Zum anderen werden Voraussetzungen für das Auftreten von Ankereffekten durch numerisches Priming untersucht, inbesondere die als relevant eingeschätzte Bedeutung der Aufmerksamkeit gegenüber dem Ankerwert. Beide Experimente verwenden neue, im Kontext von Ankereffekten bisher nicht eingesetzte experimentelle Paradigmen. Um die Bedeutung semantischer Prozesse im Zusammenspiel mit numerischen Prozessen zu untersuchen, wird ein so genannter Objektvergleich eingesetzt. Der Stellenwert von Aufmerksamkeit hingegen wird überprüft, in dem die Ankerwerte subliminal, also unterhalb der Wahrnehmungsschwelle, präsentiert werden. Beiden Experimenten ist jeweils eine Voruntersuchung vorangestellt, die notwendige Bedingungen für die entsprechenden Experimente überprüfen. In der abschließenden Diskussion werden die Ergebnisse der beiden Untersuchungen noch einmal zusammengefasst, und deren Implikationen angesichts der bisher vorliegenden Erkenntnisse aus theoretischer wie praktischer Sicht diskutiert. Des weiteren werden mögliche Forschungsfragen und denkbare experimentelle Untersuchungen hierzu skizziert, die an die innerhalb dieser Arbeit vorgelegten Ergebnisse sinnvoll anschließen könnten.

El liderazgo basa sus estudios en el análisis de la razón y la emoción, las cuales son dos factores fundamentales para el desarrollo de las personas y la forma como éstas, a través de tácticas propias del liderazgo, demuestran un factor diferenciador entre un equipo de trabajo, creando así, un grupo con unos seguidores y un líder que maneja y soporta la presión de todo el equipo. El estrés es considerado como una tensión que afecta psicológicamente al individuo y adicionalmente produce cambios fisiológicos, que pueden alterar el día a día de las personas en todos los ámbitos de la vida, y el laboral no es la excepción. El estrés puede ser producido por diferentes circunstancias, las cuales son diferentes para cada persona y éstas se presentan en diferentes aspectos de la vida del individuo, es decir, se puede presentar a nivel familiar, educativo, profesional, entre otros dependiendo el individuo que se desee analizar. “… Recibir una calificación reprobatoria en un examen de física, llegar considerablemente tarde a una junta importante, o jugar tiempos extra a muerte súbita en un partido de hockey”. (Hughes, Ginnett, & Curphy, 2007, p. 456) El presente trabajo se enfoca en el estrés laboral, ya que es fundamental para la toma de decisiones, actividad de alta importancia en la gestión directiva, por lo cual se estudiará el efecto que tiene el estrés en la toma de decisiones a niveles empresariales. El estrés laboral ha sido estudiado desde hace más de tres décadas por lo que es posible encontrar definiciones al respecto; McGrath, en 1970 definió el estrés laboral como “el desequilibrio sustancial (percibido) entre la demanda y la capacidad de respuesta del individuo bajo condiciones en las que el fracaso ante esta demanda posee importantes consecuencias (percibidas)”. (Navarro, 2009, p. 86) A partir de esta definición se podría asumir que el estrés laboral tiene un efecto sobre la toma de decisiones sin importar el cargo que el individuo desempeñe. Con el fin de entender y aportar a la administración como disciplina un recurso más para comprender este concepto de la psicología que tiene implicaciones en las organizaciones y en la forma en que los directivos toman decisiones, y así puedan apropiarlas a su diario vivir dentro de las organizaciones, se realizará una monografía que estará basada principalmente en artículos y libros que han introducido este tema anteriormente, pero que no han dado a conocer estos avances a la línea administrativa. Finalmente, con los resultados esperados en esta investigación, aparte de dar a conocer a los administradores los avances de aquellas ciencias sociales existentes anteriormente a la administración y que permiten que el desarrollo administrativo sea mejor, aportando al desarrollo de las capacidades profesionales de los gerentes y empresarios, se espera describir los factores externos que afectan al estrés e identificar cómo éste afecta la toma de decisiones en la dirección.

Para el administrador el proceso de la toma de decisiones es uno de sus mayores retos y responsabilidades, ya que en su desarrollo se debe definir el camino más acertado en un sin número de alternativas, teniendo en cuenta los obstáculos sociales, políticos y económicos del entorno empresarial. Para llegar a la decisión adecuada no hay que perder de vista los objetivos y metas propuestas, además de tener presente el proceso lógico, detectando, analizando y demostrando el porqué de esa elección. Consecuentemente el análisis que propone esta investigación aportara conocimientos sobre los tipos de lógica utilizados en la toma de decisiones estratégicas al administrador para satisfacer las demandas asociadas con el mercadeo para que de esta manera se pueda generar y ampliar eficientemente las competencia idóneas del administrador en la inserción internacional de un mercado laboral cada vez mayor (Valero, 2011). A lo largo de la investigación se pretende desarrollar un estudio teórico para explicar la relación entre la lógica y la toma de decisiones estratégicas de marketing y como estos conceptos se combinan para llegar a un resultado final. Esto se llevara a cabo por medio de un análisis de planes de marketing, iniciando por conceptos básicos como marketing, lógica, decisiones estratégicas, dirección de marketing seguido de los principios lógicos y contradicciones que se pueden llegar a generar entre la fundamentación teórica

Inferences consistent with “recognition-based” decision-making may be drawn for various reasons other than recognition alone. We demonstrate that, for 2-alternative forced-choice decision tasks, less-is-more effects (reduced performance with additional learning) are not restricted to recognition-based inference but can also be seen in circumstances where inference is knowledge-based but item knowledge is limited. One reason why such effects may not be observed more widely is the dependence of the effect on specific values for the validity of recognition and knowledge cues. We show that both recognition and knowledge validity may vary as a function of the number of items recognized. The implications of these findings for the special nature of recognition information, and for the investigation of recognition-based inference, are discussed

A convergência das normas brasileiras de contabilidade às normas internacionais permitiu que nossas regras mudassem a um novo patamar. Os princípios contábeis anteriores eram baseados em um conjunto de regras detalhadas e autoridades reguladoras verificavam a adequação dos Demonstrativos Financeiros a estas regras. Com a mudança surgiu um novo paradigma, as novas normas são baseadas muito mais em princípios do que em regras, especificamente em conformidade com os International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) na elaboração dos Demonstrativos Financeiros, que depende do julgamento profissional em maior escala do que em conformidade com as antigas normas baseadas em regras. Este trabalho teve o objetivo de investigar como vem sendo abordado o Julgamento e Tomada de Decisão (J&TD) nos cursos de Graduação em Ciências Contábeis, onde é iniciada a formação de competências e habilidades do profissional da área.

This series of studies is the first to use conjoint analysis to examine how individuals make trade-offs during mate selection when provided information about a partner's history of sexual infidelity. Across three studies, participants ranked profiles of potential mates, with each profile varying across five attributes: financial stability, physical attractiveness, sexual fidelity, emotional investment, and similarity. They also rated each attribute separately for importance in an ideal mate. Overall, we found that for a long-term mate, participants prioritized a potential partner's history of sexual fidelity over other attributes when profiles were ranked conjointly. For a short-term mate, sexual fidelity, physical attractiveness, and financial stability were equally important, and each was more important than emotional investment and similarity. These patterns contrast with participants' self-reported importance ratings of each individual attribute. Our results are interpreted within the context of previous literature examining how making trade-offs affect mate selection.

A general theory of violence may only be possible in the sense of a meta-theoretical framework, As such it should comprise a parsimonious set of general mechanisms that operate across various manifestations of violence. In order to identify such mechanisms, a general theory of violence needs to equally consider all manifestations of violence, in all societies, and at all times. Departing from this assumption this paper argues that three theoretical approaches may be combined in a non-contradictory way to understand violence as goal-directed instrumental behaviour: a theory of the judgment and decision-making processes operating in the situations that give rise to violence; a theory of the evolutionary processes that have resulted in universal cognitive and emotional mechanisms associated with violence; and a theory of the way in which social institutions structure violence by selectively enhancing its effectiveness for some purposes (i.e legitimate use of force) and controlling other types of violence (i.e crime). To illustrate the potential use of such a perspective the paper then examines some general mechanisms that may explain many different types of violence. In particular, it examines how the mechanisms of moralistic aggression (Trivers) and moral disengagement (Bandura) may account for many different types of violence.
