Given a strongly regular Hankel matrix, and its associated sequence of moments which defines a quasi-definite moment linear functional, we study the perturbation of a fixed moment, i.e., a perturbation of one antidiagonal of the Hankel matrix. We define a linear functional whose action results in such a perturbation and establish necessary and sufficient conditions in order to preserve the quasi-definite character. A relation between the corresponding sequences of orthogonal polynomials is obtained, as well as the asymptotic behavior of their zeros. We also study the invariance of the Laguerre-Hahn class of linear functionals under such perturbation, and determine its relation with the so-called canonical linear spectral transformations. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Objective. To estimate the prevalence of bacteria isolated in samples from the hands of school-age children at a hospitalization unit. Methodology. In 2009, strains were cultured from the hands of 90 school-age children at the pediatric hospitalization unit of Hospital Estadual Bauru (São Paulo, Brazil). After culture of the samples, the isolated bacteria were identified. Results. In 98% of the samples taken from the children, bacteria were isolated. Coagulase-negative Staphilococcus was isolated in 64% of the samples, followed by Staphilococcus aureus (5%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (1%). Conclusion. In most of the samples from the children’s hands, bacteria were isolated. Therefore, educative actions about hygiene habits in- and outside the hospital environment should be reinforced, aimed at children and their companions.

This paper presents an extension of the Enestrom-Kakeya theorem concerning the roots of a polynomial that arises from the analysis of the stability of Brown (K, L) methods. The generalization relates to relaxing one of the inequalities on the coefficients of the polynomial. Two results concerning the zeros of polynomials will be proved, one of them providing a partial answer to a conjecture by Meneguette (1994)[6]. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

We find conditions for two piecewise 'C POT.2+V' homeomorphisms f and g of the circle to be 'C POT.1' conjugate. Besides the restrictions on the combinatorics of the maps (we assume that the maps have bounded combinatorics), and necessary conditions on the one-side derivatives of points where f and g are not differentiable, we also assume zero mean-nonlinearity for f and g.

[EN]Often some interesting or simply curious points are left out when developing a theory. It seems that one of them is the existence of an upper bound for the fraction of area of a convex and closed plane area lying outside a circle with which it shares a diameter, a problem stemming from the theory of isoperimetric inequalities. In this paper such a bound is constructed and shown to be attained for a particular area. It is also shown that convexity is a necessary condition in order to avoid the whole area lying outside the circle

Rotator cuff lesions are common and the incidence increases with age. After tendon rupture of the rotator cuff, the muscle-tendon unit retracts, which is accompanied by muscle fatty infiltration, atrophy, and interstitial fibrosis of the musculature, thus, fundamentally changing the muscle architecture. These changes are important prognostic factors for the operative rotator cuff reconstruction outcome. Selection of the correct time point for reconstruction as well as the optimal mechanical fixation technique are decisive for successful attachment at the tendon-to-bone insertion site. Thus, knowledge of the pathophysiological processes plays an important role. The goal of this article is to establish a relationship between currently existing evidence with respect to the preoperatively existing changes of the muscle-tendon unit and the choice of the time for the operation and the operative technique.

The Chair of Transportation and Ware-housing at the University of Dortmund together with its industrial partner has developed and implemented a decentralized control system based on embedded technology and Internet standards. This innovative, highly flexible system uses autonomous software modules to control the flow of unit loads in real-time. The system is integrated into Chair’s test facility consisting of a wide range of conveying and sorting equipment. It is built for proof of concept purposes and will be used for further research in the fields of decentralized automation and embedded controls. This presentation describes the implementation of this decentralized control system.

Objectives The aim of this study was to measure the degree of conversion (DC) of five dual-curing resin cements after different curing modes with a second- and a third-generation light-emitting diode (LED) curing unit. Additionally, irradiance of both light curing units was measured at increasing distances and through discs of two glass ceramics for computer-aided design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM). Materials and methods Irradiance and spectra of the Elipar FreeLight 2 (Standard Mode (SM)) and of the VALO light curing unit (High Power Mode (HPM) and Xtra Power Mode (XPM)) were measured with a MARC radiometer. Irradiance was measured at increasing distances (control) and through discs (1.5 to 6 mm thickness) of IPS Empress CAD and IPS e.max CAD. DC of Panavia F2.0, RelyX Unicem 2 Automix, SpeedCEM, BisCem, and BeautiCem SA was measured with an attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared spectrometer when self-cured (negative control) or light cured in SM for 40 s, HPM for 32 s, or XPM for 18 s. Light curing was performed directly (positive control) or through discs of either 1.5- or 3-mm thickness of IPS Empress CAD or IPS e.max CAD. DC was analysed with Kruskal–Wallis tests followed by pairwise Wilcoxon rank sum tests (α = 0.05). Results Maximum irradiances were 1,545 mW/cm2 (SM), 2,179 mW/cm2 (HPM), and 4,156 mW/cm2 (XPM), and all irradiances decreased by >80 % through discs of 1.5 mm, ≥95 % through 3 mm, and up to >99 % through 6 mm. Generally, self-curing resulted in the lowest DC. For some cements, direct light curing did not result in higher DC compared to when light cured through ceramic discs. For other cements, light curing through ceramic discs of 3 mm generally reduced DC. Conclusions Light curing was favourable for dual-curing cements. Some cements were more susceptible to variations in curing mode than others. Clinical relevance When light curing a given cement, the higher irradiances of the third-generation LED curing unit resulted in similar DC compared to the second-generation one, though at shorter light curing times.

We engineer a brane picture for the reduction of Seiberg dualities from 4D to 3D, valid also in the presence of orientifold planes. We obtain effective 3D dualities on the circle by T-duality, geometrizing the non-perturbative superpotential which is an affine Toda potential. When reducing to pure 3D, we define a double-scaling limit which creates a sector of interacting singlets, giving a unified mechanism for the brane reduction of dualities.

This paper examines how the decline of communication costs between management and production facilities within firms and the decrease in trade costs of manufactured goods affect the spatial organization of a two-region economy with multi-unit/multi-plant firms. The development of information technology decreases the costs of communication and trade costs. Thus, the fragmentation of firms is promoted. Our result indicates that, with decreasing communication costs, firms producing low trade-cost products (such as consumer electronics) tend to concentrate their manufacturing plants in low wage countries. In contrast, firms producing high trade-cost products (such as automobiles) tend to have multiple plants serving to segmented markets, even in the absence of wage differentials.
