Os espaços públicos das cidades, sobretudo os daquelas para onde converge o turismo mundial, são sujeitos a múltiplos mecanismos de representação que os fragmentam e, em última análise, os reduzem a imagens idealizadas. Os autores dessas imagens, e dos seus sentidos, são muito diversificados, mas os profissionais ligados ao turismo (agências de viagem, revistas turísticas, documentaristas, etc.) e as instâncias públicas interessadas na divulgação turística das cidades (câmaras municipais, governos regionais, etc.) são, sem dúvida, duas das instâncias que mais operam no interior desses processos complexos de representação (e de mercadorização) do espaço das cidades. E se esses processos se associam hoje à relação feliz que milhões de pessoas estabelecem com as cidades no mundo inteiro, é no entanto necessário não esquecer que parte dessas paisagens são cuidadosamente construídas de forma, por um lado, a obliterar a lamentável realidade do urbanismo envolvente e, por outro, a delas excluir todos aqueles que inviabilizam a dinâmica cultural de construção de paisagens. We consider that the public spaces of cities, especially those which converge to the global tourism, are subject to multiple mechanisms of representation that fragment and, ultimately, reduce its idealized images. The authors of these images, and their senses are very diverse, but the professionals linked to tourism (travel agencies, tourist magazines, documentaries, etc.) and the government stakeholders interested in the dissemination of tourist cities (municipalities, regional governments, etc.) are undoubtedly two of the actors that operate within these more complex processes of representation of all urban space. And if these processes are associated today with the happy relationship that millions of people have with cities worldwide, it is however necessary not to forget that part of these landscapes are carefully constructed in a way, on one hand, to obliterate the unfortunate reality of the urban environment and, secondly, to delete all those that prevent the construction of dynamic cultural landscapes.

This thesis focused on the study and treatment of a 19th century female portrait in oil from ECOMUSEU Municipal do Seixal, Portugal. The portrait, which depicts Isabel Maria Lourenço Affonso was in poor condition and a large strip of paint and canvas was missing (approximately 9cm by 66cm, almost 11% of the total surface area). The portrait is a companion piece to a male portrait (the relationship was established as part of this study), therefore a technical study of both paintings was considered essential to support the choices made during the treatment. The project involved three main areas: - The study of the history, condition, materials and techniques of both paintings. This allowed their comparison and understanding of their relationship; - The treatment of Isabel Maria Lourenço Affonso. The choices made and problems encountered are described. - The production of a replacement for the missing strip of paint and canvas. The practical solution developed to overcome such an unusual challenge is described along with the creative and flexible thinking required. Because not all traditional infill materials cope well on a mechanical level with thin layers over a very large surface (many are too brittle), strict criteria had to be employed to choose the appropriate material. The primary goal was to find a fill which would remain flexible and be capable of accepting surface texture, such that there would be a good visual match with the painting. Analysis and testing was carried out to evaluate the physical properties of the fill material chosen, BEVA® Gesso-P. Esta tese procura defender a ideia de que foi a vinda para Portugal, nos anos 30 do século XIX, dos arquitectos, cenógrafos, e pintores decoradores de origem italiana, Cinatti e Rambois, que permitiu o retomar do fio perdido da pintura decorativa no País. Na década de 1830, dava-se, assim, início a uma nova etapa, na qual se concretizam uma série de encomendas de decoração de interiores que procuram satisfazer uma burguesia emergente, que assim sublinha o seu status social ao restaurar e transformar palácios antigos, ou ao mandar construir novos palácios e palacetes, que irão ser profusamente decorados por uma nova geração de pintores-decoradores. Era inaugurado o ressurgimento da pintura decorativa em Portugal. Esta dissertação tem também como um dos seus objectivos principais dar a conhecer e divulgar o património ímpar que constitui a pintura decorativa, para assim o poder depois proteger, num País em que o “fachadismo” faz escola, permitindo-se que os interiores sejam demolidos, e em que as artes decorativas são ainda tão esquecidas ou menosprezadas Este trabalho constitui – esperamos- uma primeira aproximação científica ao estudo de todo um conjunto de edifícios de valor patrimonial inestimável e à realidade que albergam no seu interior.

Wind turbines and solar panels are becoming second nature in Portugal, as its occurrence in the country becomes ubiquitous. Somehow, one could argue that renewable energy in Portugal is in the process of ‘naturalisation’ as part of a new – mechanised, but environmentally benign – landscape. Portuguese Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity (ICNB) has shown an ambiguous stance on this issue, defending global concerns towards renewable energy, while at the same time attempting to engage locals in the preservation of extensive ‘classified areas’. In the course of this research, we tried to focus on these incongruities and to analyse how they are impacting local communities during the process of wind power installation.

This article deals with the splendid panoramic painting depicting the Joyeuse Entrée of King Philipp III (Filipe II de Portugal) in Lisbon in 1619 which the author discovered at Weilburg castle in Germany. The author places the painting in its historical and pictorial context by comparing it to the written reports of the entry and comparable 16th and 17th century views of Lisbon. Apparently, the painting is based on a strictly planned choreography that largely follows the previous entry of Philipp II, and is identical in the painted, engraved and written descriptions of the event published between 1619 and 1622.

This study focuses on the granite mountain known as Monte Pindo (627 m above sea level) in the Autonomous Community of Galicia (NW Spain). This territory is included in the area classified as “Costa da Morte” in the “Politica de Ordenación Litoral” (POL) (Coastal Planning Policy) for the region of Galicia. This coastal unit, located between “Rías Baixas” and “Cape Fisterra” has great potential for demonstrating geological processes and its geomorphological heritage is characterized by a high degree of geodiversity of granite landforms. The main objective of our work is to assess the geomorphological heritage of the site, thus revealing its wide geodiversity. We shall analyze and highlight: its scientific value, developing an inventory of granite landforms; its educational valuel and its geotouristic potential. It must be ensured that the Administration understands that natural diversity is composed of both geodiversity and biodiversity. Only then will the sustainable management of Monte Pindo become possible by integrating natural and cultural heritage values. The goal is to ensure that Monte Pindo and its immediate surroundings become a geopark with the aim of promoting local development projects based on the conservation and valorization of its geological heritage.

El desarrollo de conocimiento empírico sobre cómo la heterogeneidad espacial de un paisaje afecta los patrones de movimiento de una especie animal es considerado una prioridad para el manejo y la conservación de las especies y sus hábitats. En el caso de los insectos plaga, estos estudios resultan importantes ya que aportan las bases teóricas y empíricas fundamentales para su manejo. La persistencia de éstas especies en un paisaje modificado depende de la interrelación entre procesos ecológicos y la estructura del paisaje, tales como la interacción entre especies, la disponibilidad de parches hábitat y la influencia de las prácticas de manejo. El análisis de éstos procesos en un agroecosistema permite simplificar los modelos de heterogeneidad espacial, debido a que los lotes de cultivo son internamente homogéneos y los disturbios antropogénicos generalmente ocurren a la escala de parche, permitiendo determinar las respuestas de los insectos a dicha escala. La alfalfa (Medicago sativa) es un recurso fundamental para la producción agropecuaria y en Argentina, es el recurso forrajero más importante, constituyendo la base de la producción ganadera del país. Actualmente se cultivan alrededor de 5 millones de hectáreas, de las cuales un millón se siembran en la provincia de Córdoba. Además, cumple un rol importante en la sustentabilidad de los sistemas de producción por su función de recuperación de la fertilidad y estabilidad edáfica. La isoca de la alfalfa (Colias lesbia) es la plaga principal del cultivo, produciendo en promedio la pérdida de un corte por año. La hipótesis principal de nuestro trabajo es que los patrones de abundancia y movilidad de la isoca de la alfalfa son afectados por la estructura del paisaje y las prácticas de manejo. Los objetivos específicos del proyecto son: (a) Establecer el efecto de la estructura del paisaje y y el manejo del cultivo en la abundancia de los distintos estadios de Colias lesbia. (b) Determinar los patrones de dispersión de Colias lesbia en relación a la heterogeneidad espacial del paisaje (c) Generar un modelo predictivo de la abundancia de Colias lesbia según la estructura espacial del paisaje, el clima y el manejo del cultivo. (d) Desarrollar un conjunto de recomendaciones de manejo a escala regional para el control de la isoca de la alfalfa. Para ello se elegirán lotes de alfalfa en la región este de la provincia de Córdoba, en el departamento de San Justo, donde se realizará un relevamiento inicial del área de estudio y se dialogará con los productores. Paralelamente, se realizará una clasificación supervisada del área de estudio a partir de escenas de imágenes Landsat TM. En los parches seleccionados, durante 3 años y durante los meses de verano, se muestrearán quincenalmente los distintos estadios de Colias lesbia. Se realizarán análisis de correlación y regresión entre las variables independientes (métricas de la configuración y dinámica del paisaje) y las variables dependientes, (abundancia media de los diferentes estadios de las poblaciones). Asimismo, se realizarán experimentos de marcado-liberación-recaptura para determinar cómo el movimiento de la especie depende de la estructura del paisaje. Para modelar el movimiento inherente de la especie se combinará la información obtenida en el campo con un modelo de difusión utilizando métodos bayesianos. Se espera obtener modelos que permitan comprender los mecanismos que generan los patrones observados. Con esta información se propondrán lineamientos generales y específicos para un manejo de la isoca de la alfalfa a escala regional. En tal sentido, se espera aportar información para restringir la dispersión de la plaga, y reducir los costos y perjuicios del control químico que podrían evitarse con la aplicación de prácticas de manejo integrado y de "manejo de área" que minimicen el impacto de la plaga como también contribuir al conocimiento general de la ecología de insectos.

The dynamics of the bird community in a small forest fragment was evaluated along seven years in relation to changes in the surrounding landscape. The study area is an Araucaria forest fragment in Southern Brazil (state of Paraná). The sampling period covered the years 1988 through 1994 and the mark-release-recapture method was utilized. The landscape analysis was based on Landsat TM images, and changes in exotic tree plantations, native forest, open areas (agriculture, pasture, bare soil, and abandoned field), and "capoeira"(native vegetation < 2 m) were quantified. The relationship between landscape changes and changes in abundance diversity of forest birds, open-area birds, forest-edge birds, and bamboo specialists was evaluated. Richness estimates were run for each year studied. The richness recorded in the study area comprised 96 species. The richness estimates were 114, 118 and 110 species for Chao 1, Jackknife 1 and Bootstrap, respectively. The bird community varied in species richness, abundance and diversity from year to year. As for species diversity, 1991, 1993 and 1994 were significantly different from the other years. Changes in the landscape contributed to the increase in abundance and richness for the groups of forest, open-area and bamboo-specialist species. An important factor discussed was the effect of the flowering of "taquara" (Poaceae), which contributed significantly to increasing richness of bamboo seed eaters, mainly in 1992 and 1993. In general, the results showed that landscape changes affected the dynamics and structure of the bird community of this forest fragment over time, and proved to have an important role in conservation of the avian community in areas of intensive forestry and agricultural activities.

These painters whose works tell its long history for having lived in the glare of light forever are the Roman pantheon of arts: what are all the anonymous authors of the frescoes of ancient Rome and medieval, but Fabriano, Cimabue , Giotto, Botticelli, Raphael, Giulio Romano, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Guercino, Titian, Vasari, Velasquez, Le Nain, Poussin, Zuccari, Van Wittel, Eckersberg, Giraudet, David, Panini, Hubert Robert, Reynolds, Fuseli, Ingres, Sargent, Caffi, Vernet, Turner, Corot, Caffi, De Chirico, etc..
