Los accidentes con riesgo biológico de origen laboral, son aquellos que sufre un trabajador, ya sea por cuenta propia o ajena, como consecuencia de contactos accidentales con fluidos animales, vegetales o humanos, en el ambiente de trabajo o mientras ejecuta sus tareas como empleado. Estos accidentes no son eventos fortuitos y dependen fuertemente del comportamiento inseguro en el lugar de trabajo y de los factores del ambiente laboral. El análisis funcional es una técnica cognitivo-conductual que se basa en el estudio de la evidencia anterior disponible con el objetivo de identificar los mecanismos de ocurrencia y los factores laborales y personales inseguros relacionados con los accidentes y sus antecedentes y consecuentes. Objetivo general: Establecer los mecanismos de ocurrencia y factores personales y laborales asociados a los accidentes de trabajo con riesgo biológico reportados durante los años 2010 a 2012, con el fin de proponer estrategias de intervención para controlarlos y así aportar a un ambiente de trabajo seguro. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo, mediante la revisión de los informes de los accidentes laborales con riesgo biológico reportados en el área de Salud Ocupacional de un hospital universitario de la ciudad de Bogota; D.C. en los años 2010 a 2012. Resultados: Se registraron 287 reportes de accidentes de trabajo con riesgo biológico que cumplieron con los criterios de selección. Se encontró una prevalencia en el sexo femenino en una relación de 3,6 : 1 y en el grupo de edad entre 18 y 35 años de 69%. Por ocupación, se reportaron 149 accidentes en el grupo de enfermería y 49 accidentes en el grupo de servicios generales, siendo los dos grupos de mayor incidencia. Así mismo, hubo mayor accidentalidad por objetos cortopunzantes, siendo las punciones las más frecuentes en un 82,2% de los casos, localizándose con mayor frecuencia en los dedos de las manos en un 70,73% de los casos. En cuanto a los mecanismos de ocurrencia, la mayoría se produjo durante el uso del objeto, seguido de los producidos por contacto con objetos dejados en lugares inapropiados y por inadecuada disposición de los desechos. La distribución según el determinante de ocurrencia fue para actos inseguros 68,3% de los casos, para condiciones inseguras 3,1% de los casos y finalmente en el 28,6% de los casos los accidentes fueron debidos a la combinación de ambos, encontrándose una relación estadsticamente significativa entre esta variable y la mayoría de las características de los accidentes (p<0,05). Conclusiones: La mayoría de los accidentes de trabajo con riesgo biológico reportados fueron consecuencia de actos inseguros de los trabajadores. Por lo que se propone establecer diferentes capacitaciones periódicas para los trabajadores, contribuyendo a la incorporación de actos seguros y coherentes con las tareas a desarrollar dentro de su puesto de trabajo, y la manera de actuar frente a situaciones riesgosas.

Se pretende conseguir un uso adecuado del agua y proteger el medio en el que vivimos. Tambi??n se proponen una serie de medidas para mejorar el uso, y se elabora un plan de acci??n para la gesti??n adecuada del agua en el centro educativo, un plan de ahorro de agua.

This paper shows that value creation by multinational enterprises (MNEs) is the result of activities where geographic distance effects can be overcome. We submit that geographic distance has a relatively low impact on international research and development (R&D) investments, owing to the spiky nature of innovation, and to the unique ability of MNEs to absorb and transfer knowledge on a global scale. On the one hand, MNEs need to set up their labs as close as possible to specialized technology clusters where valuable knowledge is concentrated, largely regardless of distance from their home base. On the other, MNEs have historically developed technical and organizational competencies that enable them to transfer knowledge within their internal networks and across technology clusters at relatively low cost. Using data on R&D and manufacturing investments of 6320 firms in 59 countries, we find that geographic distance has a lower negative impact on the probability of setting up R&D than manufacturing plants. Furthermore, once measures of institutional proximity are accounted for, MNEs are equally likely to set up R&D labs in nearby or in more remote locations. This result is driven by MNEs based in Triad countries, whereas for non-Triad MNEs the effect of geographic distance on cross-border R&D is negative and significant.

An efficient and robust method to measure vitamin D (25-hydroxy vitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) and 25-hydroxy vitamin D2 in dried blood spots (DBS) has been developed and applied in the pan-European multi-centre, internet-based, personalised nutrition intervention study Food4Me. The method includes calibration with blood containing endogenous 25(OH)D3, spotted as DBS and corrected for haematocrit content. The methodology was validated following international standards. The performance characteristics did not reach those of the current gold standard liquid chromatography-MS/MS in plasma for all parameters, but were found to be very suitable for status-level determination under field conditions. DBS sample quality was very high, and 3778 measurements of 25(OH)D3 were obtained from 1465 participants. The study centre and the season within the study centre were very good predictors of 25(OH)D3 levels (P<0·001 for each case). Seasonal effects were modelled by fitting a sine function with a minimum 25(OH)D3 level on 20 January and a maximum on 21 July. The seasonal amplitude varied from centre to centre. The largest difference between winter and summer levels was found in Germany and the smallest in Poland. The model was cross-validated to determine the consistency of the predictions and the performance of the DBS method. The Pearson's correlation between the measured values and the predicted values was r 0·65, and the sd of their differences was 21·2 nmol/l. This includes the analytical variation and the biological variation within subjects. Overall, DBS obtained by unsupervised sampling of the participants at home was a viable methodology for obtaining vitamin D status information in a large nutritional study.

Knowledge of the native prokaryotes in hazardous locations favors the application of biotechnology for bioremediation. Independent strategies for cultivation and metagenomics contribute to further microbiological knowledge, enabling studies with non-cultivable about the "native microbiological status and its potential role in bioremediation, for example, of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (HPA's). Considering the biome mangrove interface fragile and critical bordering the ocean, this study characterizes the native microbiota mangrove potential biodegradability of HPA's using a biomarker for molecular detection and assessment of bacterial diversity by PCR in areas under the influence of oil companies in the Basin Petroleum Geology Potiguar (BPP). We chose PcaF, a metabolic enzyme, to be the molecular biomarker in a PCR-DGGE detection of prokaryotes that degrade HPA s. The PCR-DGGE fingerprints obtained from Paracuru-CE, Fortim-CE and Areia Branca-RN samples revealed the occurrence of fluctuations of microbial communities according to the sampling periods and in response to the impact of oil. In the analysis of microbial communities interference of the oil industry, in Areia Branca-RN and Paracuru-CE was observed that oil is a determinant of microbial diversity. Fortim-CE probably has no direct influence with the oil activity. In order to obtain data for better understanding the transport and biodegradation of HPA's, there were conducted in silico studies with modeling and simulation from obtaining 3-D models of proteins involved in the degradation of phenanthrene in the transport of HPA's and also getting the 3-D model of the enzyme PcaF used as molecular marker in this study. Research on Blindsight, Neglect/Extinction and Phantom limb syndromes, as well as electrical measurements of mammalian brain activity, have suggested the dependence of vivid perception on both incoming sensory information at primary sensory cortex and reentrant information from associative cortex. Coherence between incoming and reentrant signals seems to be a necessary condition for (conscious) perception. General reticular activating system and local electrical synchronization are some of the tools used by the brain to establish coarse coherence at the sensory cortex, upon which biochemical processes are coordinated. Besides electrical synchrony and chemical modulation at the synapse, a central mechanism supporting such a coherence is the N-methyl-D-aspartate channel, working as a 'coincidence detector' for an incoming signal causing the depolarization necessary to remove Mg 2+, and reentrant information releasing the glutamate that finally prompts Ca 2+ entry. We propose that a signal transduction pathway activated by Ca 2+ entry into cortical neurons is in charge of triggering a quantum computational process that accelerates inter-neuronal communication, thus solving systemic conflict and supporting the unity of consciousness. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Preocupa-nos, primeiramente, verificar como a identidade de Alfredo se articula diante das diferenças culturais e dicotomias como popular/erudito; oral/escrito. Popular e oral, ligados a valores da mãe negra, D.Amélia, e erudito e escrito, relacionado ao pai, Major Alberto. Em seguida, apresenta os traços fronteiriços auxiliadores da elaboração da identidade de Alfredo, Finalmente, verifica-se como as narrativas presentes na obra estão incorporadas no texto dalcidiano, e sua importância para a resolução de alguns conflitos vivenciados pelo protagonista.E para que se possa visualizar a abordagens teóricas aqui trabalhadas, contribuem com este estudo autores como Stuart Hall, D. Shüller, Zilá Bernd e, ainda, serão citados Walter Benjamin, Anthony Giddens, entre outros.

OBJETIVO: Discutir o diagnóstico diferencial das encefalites além daquelas de etiologia infecciosa, e alertar os pediatras para a possibilidade do diagnóstico de encefalite anti-receptor N-metil-D-aspartato (rNMDA) na população pediátrica, destacando suas principais características clínicas. DESCRIÇÃO: Três pacientes apresentaram-se com uma síndrome neuropsiquiátrica inicial seguida de encefalopatia e transtornos de movimento. As características neuropsiquiátricas iniciais se desenvolveram ao longo de dias ou semanas, com mudanças comportamentais, ansiedade, confusão mental e regressão da fala. Em seguida, os pacientes evoluíram com distúrbios de movimento, caracterizados por coreoatetose ou distonia, acometendo a região orofacial e os membros. Após a exclusão das principais causas de encefalite, foram identificados anticorpos anti-rNMDA no soro e no líquido cefalorraquidiano. Não foram detectadas neoplasias durante a investigação etiológica. Os pacientes foram submetidos a imunossupressão, e dois deles tiveram uma recuperação neurológica completa. Um deles ainda apresenta uma postura distônica leve em um dos membros. COMENTÁRIOS: Os sinais clínicos de encefalite anti-rNMDA em crianças são semelhantes aos anteriormente descritos em adultos. Tumores geralmente não são detectados nessa idade. O diagnóstico de encefalite anti-rNMDA deve ser abordado após a exclusão de outras causas de encefalite na infância, como as de origem infecciosa. Pediatras devem estar atentos a essa condição autoimune passível de tratamento.
