Diagnóstico molecular da alteração mutagênica nt 230 (del4) no gene MDR1 em cães

P-glycoprotein is an adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-driven drug efflux carrier responsible for transport of xenobiotics and multiple classes of drugs, many usually use in veterinary medicine. Encoded by MDR1 gene, also referred to as ABCB1, located on chromosome 14, is expressed in many tissues with secretory or excretory functions, such as liver, kidney and intestine, where it limits drug absorption from the gut and promotes drug excretion into the bile and urine of their substrates. In 2001, a 4 base pair gene deletion mutation in the canine MDR1 gene was identified as MDR1-1▲, ABCB1-1▲, MDR1 MDR1 nt 230 (del4) and associated with an non-functional Pglycoprotein. The clinical correlation is the (hyper) sensitivity of certain dogs breeds, mostly collies, to a few classes of drugs such as anticancer drugs (doxorubicin, vincristine, vinblastine), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), antiparasitic drugs (ivermectin, moxidectin), steroids hormones (aldosterone, cortisol, dexamethasone), antimicrobial agents (tetracycline, doxycycline, levofloxacin, ketoconazole, itraconazole), analgesics (morphine, methadone), antidiarrheals (loperamide), antiepileptic agents (phenothiazine), cardiac drugs (digoxin, diltiazem, verapamil, talinolol) and others. Dogs with homozygous MDR1 nt 230 (del4) MDR1 mutations (MDR1 - / -) have a higher predisposition to intoxication with substrates of P-gp than heterozygous (MDR1 + / -) and these are more likely than dogs homozygous nonmutant (MDR1 +/ +). After the identification of nt230 (del4) mutation, several molecular techniques have been developed for identification of mutant animals as a diagnostic method. Ação dos inotrópicos e vasopressores na estabilização hemodinâmica em cães com choque séptico

Septic shock remains one of the most common challenges for the small animal practicing, presenting high mortality rates frequently associated with late identification of this syndrome, as well as an inappropriate treatment. In general, disruption of homeostasis occurs with an intense activation of inflammatory cascade, which leads to a damage to endothelial cells and an exposure to these cytokines, which will result in vasodilation and increased capillary permeability. Thus, there is a drop in blood pressure, even after aggressive fluid resuscitation. Therefore, drugs such as vasopressors, which act by increasing systemic vascular resistance, and inotropes, which have an effect on heart pump, should be administered in order to raise blood pressure, ensuring adequate tissue perfusion. The objective of this review was to gather information about the various drugs used in vasopressors/inotropes therapy, trying to explain the role of each one in different situations, in order to increase the survival rate in dogs affected with septic shock

Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty related to imagery that deals with imaging techniques, diagnosis and therapy, allowing observing the physiological state of tissues noninvasively by marking the molecules participating of these physiological processes with radioactive isotopes, thus creating the called radionuclides. The image of a radionuclide is one of the most important applications of radioactivity in nuclear medicine. The equipment’s of nuclear medicine imaging use the principle of radiation detection, turning it into an electrical signal which, through specific algorithms, allows forming tomographic images that provide information about the functional status of organs. New detection systems have been developed for tomographic acquisitions using solid state detectors. These devices use crystals of cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe). Some of the advantages of this detector are a significant improvement of signal to noise ratio, the increased spectral and spatial resolution, which in sum, result in greater clarity of the images obtained, opening new perspectives for imaging protocols previously unattainable. In contrast, all other gamma-cameras equipped with vacuum tubes have remained relatively unchanged for nearly fifty years. In these gamma-cameras, the images are obtained using two steps significantly less efficient: the gamma rays are converted to light through a first device, and then the light is converted into an electrical signal through a second device. This control ensures that the information and images provided are true and thus credible to be used in medical reports. Avaliação da alteração dimensional de modelos obtidos a partir de moldagens com alginato tradicional e outro com desinfetante

The present study aims at evaluating dimensional alteration of stone casts made from impressions with a standard irreversible hydrocolloid and an antimicrobial one. For this, an alginate without disinfectant (Type II Jeltrate) and other containing chlorhexidine (Type II Avagel) were used, which rose by the same regime of treatment: without disinfection; immersion; and spraying. A 1% sodium hypochlorite solution was used for 10 minutes. To obtain the impressions, a perforated impression tray was made from a standard metal model. After molding, the molds were washed in running water for 30 seconds to simulate removal of saliva. Then, with the exception of the control group, these molds were subjected to disinfection treatment. After 10 minutes they were washed again. 60 samples poured with type V special gypsum (Durone) were obtained, that were measured 3 times in a stereomicroscope (SZX12, Olympus) to record the average of dimensional alterations. The disinfection treatment did not bring significant changes in the models obtained from both alginate tested (standard p = 0.7102; with chlorhexidine p = 0.5832). The results showed a statistically significant and additional advantage of the traditional alginate on alginate with chlorhexidine, with respect to dimensional alteration (p < 0.05).

Alteração cromática de resinas compostas laboratoriais submetidas à imersão em diferentes soluções

The pigmentation of indirect composite resins has been one of the most common reasons that lead the restorative treatment to failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different solutions on color stability of indirect composite resins. Five brands of indirect composite resins were tested: Adoro, Resilab, Cristobal, Sinfony and Epricord. The samples were immerged in eleven solutions (n=10): common liquid foods (coke soft drink, red wine, coffee and orange juice), mounthrinses (Listerine, Oral-B, Colgate Plax and Periogard) and bleaching agents (carbamide peroxide 16%, 7.5% and hydrogen peroxide 38%) and artificial saliva (control group). The color was measured by a spectrophotometer before and after 7, 14 and 21 days of immersion in common liquid foods, after 12, 24, 36 and 60 hours of immersion in mounthrinses and after 7 and 14 days of immersion in bleaching agents. The Cristobal and Adoro resins showed highest values of ΔE statistically significant compared to the others resin brands. Adoro’s ΔE values changed significantly after the immersion process in red wine and coffee and also between periods measured. The resins Cristobal and Sinfony showed the highest values of ΔE after the immersion process in Listerine with difference statistically significant in comparison to control group. Besides, there was difference statistically significant of the ΔE values  for  Cristobal  after  immersion  in hydrogen peroxide 7,5% in comparison to control group. It can be conclude that all the solutions promoted color change on the indirect composite resins. However, ΔE values  are  whitin  the  values clinically acceptable.

Alteração da impulsão vertical após o período competitivo em atletas de profissionais de futebol

Change on vertical jump after competitive period in professionals soccer players. Brazilian Journal of Biomotricity, v. 4, n. 2, p. 140-147, 2010. Soccer is a sport that demands different intensities of run, with decisive actions of a match being held in maximum intensity. Vertical jump test is widely used in soccer players due to the strong relationship with speed and agility. Futhermore, there are little information about change on vertical jump after the competitive season in soccer players. The aim of this study was to analyze change on vertical jump after the competitive season in professional soccer players. Took part in this study 21 male athletes (20.82 ± 3.16 years, 72.28 ± 8.74 kg and 179.91 ± 6.14 cm) subscribers to the 4th division of the Paulista championship of 2009. The competitive season had a duration of 20 weeks, with a total of 20 official matchs done. The test used was the counter-movement vertical jump (VJ), that was performed in the first (PRE) and last (POS) training session of the competitive period. After confirmation of data normality by Kolmogorov-Smirnov, the inferential analysis of the results of VJ between PRE and POS was performed using the paired t-test, considering the significance level of 5%. There was a significant increase (p<0,05) on VJ after the competitive period (PRE=54,19±4,46 and POS=57,94±5,23). According to the results of this study, it is possible to increase the performance of VJ in professional soccer players after the competitive period of 20 weeks duration.
