The analysis of clearance fit joints falls within the realm of mixed boundary problems with moving boundaries. In this paper, this problem is solved by a simple continuum method of analysis applying an inverse technique; the region of contact is specified and the corresponding causative load is evaluated. Illustrations are given for a rigid clearance fit pin in a large elastic plate with smooth zero-shear interface between pin and plate, under biaxial plate stress at infinity and due to load transfer through pin.

Body-centered-tetragonal (BCT) ZnS nanocrystals have been synthesized, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, by using the chemical coprecipitation method at higher synthesis temperatures of 65 and 95 degrees C. It is confirmed from X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies that in the high-temperature-synthesized samples, cubic and BCT phases coexist, in contrast to the room-temperature-synthesized sample, which consists of only cubic phase with sizes of the particles lying between 2 and 3 nm. The sizes of BCT phase nanocrystals are bigger than those of cubic phase of ZnS. The presence of BCT phase of ZnS in the samples is increased from 40 to 90% when the temperature of synthesis is increased from 65 to 95 degrees C. The nanocrystalline nature and UV-Vis absorption characteristics of the prepared samples have been studied with a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and a UV-Visible pectrophotometer, respectively. The room-temperature-synthesized ZnS sample shows photoluminescence (PL) emission in the blue region with multiple peaks, whereas the high-temperature-synthesized samples show PL emissions in the visible region. The Gaussian fittings of the measured PL spectra shows that three PL peaks at 429, 477, and 525 nm are appeared in the 65 degrees C sample and two peaks at 491 and 540 nm appear in the 95 degrees C sample with the enhanced PL intensity of the green peak at 540 nm. T. gondii – vasta-aineita löytyi maan laajuisesti 477 lampaalta 1940 tutkitusta eli seroprevalenssi on 24,6 %. Tuloksen 95 %:n luottamusväli on 22,7% – 26,5%. Seroprevalenssitulos on oletettua suuruusluokkaa. Tutkituista tiloista 76 %:lla löytyi ainakin yksi lammas, jolta havaittiin vasta-aineita loista vastaan.

The Winkler spring model is the most convenient representation of soil support in the domain of linear elasticity for framed structure-soil interaction analyses. The closeness of the analytical results obtained using this model with those corresponding to the elastic half-space continuum has been investigated in the past for foundation beams. The findings, however, are not applicable to framed structures founded on beam or strip footings. Moreover, the past investigations employ the concept of characteristic length which does not adequately account for the stiffness contribution of the superstructure. A framed structure on beam foundation can be described parametrically by the ratios of stiffnesses of superstructure and foundation beams to that of soil. For a practical range of soil allowable pressures, the ranges of these relative stiffness ratios have been established. The present study examines the variation between interactive analyses based on Winkler springs with those using the half-space continuum over these ranges of relative stiffness ratios. The findings enable the analyst to undertake a Winkler spring-based-interaction analysis with knowledge of the likely variation of values with those derived for the more computation-intensive half-space continuum.

In this paper we describe a method for the optimum design of fiber rein forced composite laminates for strength by ranking. The software developed based on this method is capable of designing laminates for strength; which are subjected to inplane and/or bending loads and optionally hygrothermal loads. Symmetric laminates only are considered which are assumed to be made of repeated sublaminate construction. Various layup schemes are evaluated based on the laminated plate theory and quadratic failure cri terion for the given mechanical and hygrothermal loads. The optimum layup sequence in the sublaminate and the number of such sublaminates required are obtained. Further, a ply-drop round-off scheme is adopted to arrive at an optimum laminate thickness. As an example, a family of 0/90/45/ -45 bi-directional lamination schemes are examined for dif ferent types of loads and the gains in optimising the ply orientations in a sublaminate are demonstrated.

The reactions of [MCl2(cod)](M = Pd or Pt, cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene) with RN[P(OPh)2]2[R = Me (L1) or Ph (L2)] afford the chelate complexes [MCl2L1] and [MCl2L2]. The dinuclear palladium(O) complex, [Pd2L13] has been synthesized by starting from [Pd2(dba)3](dba = dibenzylideneacetone). Redox condensation of [Pd2(dba)3] and [PdCl2(PhCN)2] in the presence of the diphosphazane ligands gives the dinuclear palladium(I) complexes [Pd2Cl2L12] and [Pd2Cl2L22]. The structures of the complexes have been deduced from 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopic data. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies confirm the structures of [Pd2L13] and [Pd2Cl2L22].

In the cation of the title compound, C14H13N2S+center dot Br-, the essentially planar benzimidazole system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0082 angstrom) is substituted with a 4-methylsulfanylphenyl ring. The dihedral angle between the benzimidazole system and the 4-methylsulfanylphenyl ring is 2.133 (2)degrees. The crystal structure is characterized by strong and highly directional intermolecular N-H center dot center dot center dot Br hydrogen bonds involving the bromide ion. Moreover, C-H center dot center dot center dot S interactions result in chains of molecules along the c axis. The supramolecular assembly is further stabilized by pi-pi stacking interactions between the benzimidazole system and 4-methylsulfanylphenyl rings centroid-centroid distance = 3.477 (4) angstrom].

Synthesis of the free-base tetrakis (3'-nitro/aminophenyl), (H2TNP/H(2)TAP) has been accomplished and its coordination behaviour towards Mg(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and Ag(II) ions is investigated. Optical and magnetic resonance properties of the metal derivatives MTNP and MTAP reveal that the aminoporphyrins exist as aggregates in solution. The aggregation is promoted by the coordination of the peripheral amino groups to neighbouring metalloporphyrins. Possible structures of aggregated species are proposed from the model studies.

The effect of the inclusion of ceramic particles in polythene material on the response to erosion due to impingement by sand particles at three angles is investigated. It is seen that erosion resistance varies with ceramic inclusions. The work also considers the limitations posed by the system in adopting weight change measurements as a measure to follow erosive wear owing to the softer nature of the matrix material. Consequently, the investigation looks at two other experimental parameter, that can readily be measured to quantify erosion. Of the two approaches. the advantages of following wear through measuring linear dimension of the resulting crater is stressed in this work. The study also highlights the problems associated in assessing the depth of the crater as a parameter to express the extent of erosion owing to the phenomenon of material flow suggested and schematically illustrated in the work. Corroborative evidence for this flow behaviour through scanning electron microscopic studies is presented. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
