Im Weiterbildungsbereich wird oft einzig auf die standardisierte schriftliche Befragung als Evaluationsmethode zurückgegriffen, ohne dass anfänglich eine Auseinandersetzung mit Evaluationszweck und Fragestellungen erfolgt ist. Der folgende Beitrag zeigt am Beispiel einer formativen Evaluation eines betriebswirtschaftlichen Studiengangs auf, wie die Fokusgruppenmethode in der Weiterbildungsevaluation eingesetzt wird und nützliche Informationen zur Weiterentwicklung von Studiengängen liefern kann.

The development of targeted therapy involve many challenges. Our study will address some of the key issues involved in biomarker identification and clinical trial design. In our study, we propose two biomarker selection methods, and then apply them in two different clinical trial designs for targeted therapy development. In particular, we propose a Bayesian two-step lasso procedure for biomarker selection in the proportional hazards model in Chapter 2. In the first step of this strategy, we use the Bayesian group lasso to identify the important marker groups, wherein each group contains the main effect of a single marker and its interactions with treatments. In the second step, we zoom in to select each individual marker and the interactions between markers and treatments in order to identify prognostic or predictive markers using the Bayesian adaptive lasso. In Chapter 3, we propose a Bayesian two-stage adaptive design for targeted therapy development while implementing the variable selection method given in Chapter 2. In Chapter 4, we proposed an alternate frequentist adaptive randomization strategy for situations where a large number of biomarkers need to be incorporated in the study design. We also propose a new adaptive randomization rule, which takes into account the variations associated with the point estimates of survival times. In all of our designs, we seek to identify the key markers that are either prognostic or predictive with respect to treatment. We are going to use extensive simulation to evaluate the operating characteristics of our methods.^

In this study a radiocarbon-dated pollen record from Lake Billyakh (65°17'N, 126°47'E; 340 m a.s.l.) in the Verkhoyansk Mountains was used to reconstruct vegetation and climate change since about 15 kyr BP (1 kyr=1000 cal. yr). The pollen record and pollen-based biome reconstruction suggest that open cool steppe and grass and sedge tundra communities with Poaceae, Cyperaceae, Artemisia, Chenopodiaceae, Caryophyllaceae and Selaginella rupestris dominated the area from 15 to 13.5 kyr BP. On the other hand, the constant presence of Larix pollen in quantities comparable to today's values points to the constant presence of boreal deciduous conifer trees in the regional vegetation during the last glaciation. A major spread of shrub tundra communities, including birch (Betula sect. Nanae), alder (Duschekia fruticosa) and willow (Salix) species, is dated to 13.5-12.7 kyr BP, indicating a noticeable increase in precipitation toward the end of the last glaciation, particularly during the Allerød Interstadial. Between 12.7 and 11.4 kyr BP pollen percentages of herbaceous taxa rapidly increased, whereas shrub taxa percentages decreased, suggesting strengthening of the steppe communities associated with the relatively cold and dry Younger Dryas Stadial. However, the pollen data in hand indicate that Younger Dryas climate was less severe than the climate during the earlier interval from 15 to 13.5 kyr BP. The onset of the Holocene is marked in the pollen record by the highest values of shrub and lowest values of herbaceous taxa, suggesting a return of warmer and wetter conditions after 11.4 kyr BP. Percentages of tree taxa increase gradually and reach maximum values after 7 kyr BP, reflecting the spread of boreal cold deciduous and taiga forests in the region. An interval between 7 and 2 kyr BP is noticeable for the highest percentages of Scots spine (Pinus subgen. Diploxylon), spruce (Picea) and fir (Abies) pollen, indicating mid-Holocene spread of boreal forest communities in response to climate amelioration and degradation of the permafrost layer.

El contenido de este PFC supone el desarrollo de una aplicación gráfica en el entorno GNU/LINUX. La aplicación debe representar en la pantalla gráficos procedentes de una fuente externa (un fichero, una tarjeta de adquisición de datos, otra aplicación, etc.) Debe permitir las siguientes funcionalidades: Representar la señal uniendo puntos o marcándolos como símbolos. Debe gestionar de forma adecuada el zoom. Debe permitir exportar la gráfica a formatos SVG y PDF. Debe permitir mostrar varias señales superpuestas para poder compararlas. Opcionalmente debe permitir arrastrar y soltar (“drag and drop”). ABSTRACT The content of the thesis is the development of a graphical application in GNU / Linux environment. The application must render graphics on the screen from an external source (a file, a data acquisition card, other applications, etc..) It must allow the following functionality: Joining dots represent the signal or marking them as symbols. Must properly manage the zoom. Allow export the graph to SVG and PDF formats. Allow display multiple signals superimposed for comparison. Optionally should allow drag and drop.

Lenticular array products have experienced a growing interest in the last decade due to the very wide range of applications they can cover. Indeed, this kind of lenses can create different effects on a viewing image such as 3D, flips, zoom, etc. In this sense, lenticular based on liquid crystals (LC) technology is being developed with the aim of tuning the lens profiles simply by controlling the birefringence electrically. In this work, a LC lenticular lens array has been proposed to mimic a GRIN lenticular lens array but adding the capability of tuning their lens profiles. Comb control electrodes have been designed as pattern masks for the ITO on the upper substrate. Suitable high resistivity layers have been chosen to be deposited on the control electrode generating an electric field gradient between teeth of the same electrode. Test measurements have allowed us to demonstrate that values of phase retardations and focal lengths, for an optimal driving waveform, are fairly in agreement. In addition, results of focusing power of tuneable lenses were compared to those of conventional lenses. The behaviour of both kinds of lenses has revealed to be mutually similar for focusing collimated light and for refracting images.

El reflectómetro óptico en el dominio del tiempo, conocido por sus siglas en inglés como OTDR, es un dispositivo muy utilizado en sistemas de comunicaciones por fibra óptica para conocer de una manera rápida y sencilla como varía la potencia óptica a lo largo de la fibra óptica, siendo otro de sus usos frecuentes la localización de fallos y roturas en un enlace. Este proyecto fin de carrera, consiste en la realización mediante Matlab de una interfaz gráfica que permite simular un OTDR para distintos tipos de fibras, conectores y empalmes visualizándose por pantalla la variación de la potencia óptica en función de la distancia, pudiendo ampliar cualquier tramo del enlace que se desee visualizar con mayor detalle. Los objetivos del proyecto podemos establecerlos en dos partes. Primero, realizar una interfaz que nos permita diseñar un enlace de fibra óptica de forma sencilla, permitiendo además medir desde la atenuación de la fibra a la de un empalme. En segundo lugar, emplear la interfaz desarrollada para comprobar conceptos teóricos, haciendo hincapié en los principales errores de un enlace de fibra óptica real. Para una mejor visualización y concepción de lo implementado, es necesario revisar los principios básicos de funcionamiento de la fibra óptica y las principales características de un enlace, así como, los distintos dispositivos que lo componen, para después explicar el funcionamiento del OTDR y sus usos; por ello, en los capítulos segundo y tercero, se explican estas nociones básicas, necesarias para un mejor entendimiento del proyecto. Para poder utilizar la interfaz gráfica de usuario, el capítulo cuarto muestra la descripción de las funciones con parámetros, así como el manual de usuario de la interfaz gráfica. En el capítulo quinto se hace una recopilación y estudios de resultados para distintas simulaciones comprobando desde casos sencillos a casos extremos en los que se debe prestar una especial atención a los elementos que componen el enlace, siendo finalmente, en el sexto capítulo donde se presentan distintas conclusiones así como posibles trabajos futuros, a partir de lo realizado. ABSTRACT. The optical time domain reflectometer, known as OTDR, is a widely used device in systems for fiber optic communications used to know quick and simply how the optical power its varying along the fiber, with particular emphasis to another of its frequent uses in troubleshooting on a link. This final project consists in carrying through a graphical interface in Matlab to simulate an OTDR for different types of fibers, connectors and splices, visualizing the variation of optical power as a function of the distance. It is possible to zoom in specific sections to view them with greater detail. The project objectives can be set in two parts: - Make an interface that allows us to design a fiber optic link easily and measuring from the fiber attenuation to a splice one. - Use the interface developed to test theoretical concepts, emphasizing the most important mistakes of a real optical fiber link. For better visualization and understanding of what it’s been implemented, it is necessary to review the basic operating principles of fiber optics and the main characteristics of a fiber link, and also the different types of devices that comprise it, and then explaining also how the OTDR works and its uses, therefore, in second and third chapters, explains these basics needed for a better understanding of the project. To use the GUI, the fourth chapter shows the description of the functions with parameters and the user manual of the GUI. The fifth chapter is a compilation and study of some simulation results for simple cases to check from simply to extreme cases putting special attention to the elements that make up the link. To sum up, in the sixth chapter will appear different conclusions and possible future works for improving the graphical interface or making a new one.

La edificación es un sector de enorme influencia en la evolución del consumo de energía y las emisiones de CO2. En estos momentos en España hay casi tres millones y medio de viviendas vacías y según datos del Instituto Nacional de Estadística no se prevé un aumento en la demanda de nueva vivienda para los próximos años. Resulta evidente que actuar en el parque inmobiliario existente es una prioridad para cumplir con los objetivos europeos en materia de energía. ¿Pero realmente sabemos cómo es el parque sobre el que hay que actuar? La tipología más representativa del parque residencial, considerando los edificios con una antigüedad igual o mayor a 30 años, es la vivienda plurifamiliar construida entre 1950 y 1980 [1]. La promoción inmobiliaria de esta época se caracterizó por un gran número de promociones, polígonos de gran tamaño y un alto número de viviendas. Debido a la baja calidad de los materiales y a los escasos recursos económicos de la época, es necesario intervenir en dichos edificios para adaptarlos a las condiciones de confort requeridos en la actualidad. El objetivo del presente estudio reside en la definición y análisis de un modelo de edificio representativo del parque inmobiliario español, anterior a la normativa NBE-CT 79, con el fin de poder detectar las necesidades existentes de cara a una futura rehabilitación. Para ello, se ha planteado un análisis general de la evolución de la vivienda durante las décadas 50, 60 y 70, haciendo un mayor zoom en la ciudad de Madrid, ya que fue la que mayor población absorbió, siendo además laboratorio de ensayo para el desarrollo de la vivienda española. Centrando la atención en la década de los 60, década de mayor construcción, se ha identificado la tipología con mayor presencia en la ciudad, haciendo un estudio en mayor profundidad de una selección de edificios que atienden a la tipología seleccionada. Como resultado del análisis, se ha definido un modelo edificatorio de referencia, atendiendo a los indicadores urbanos, funcionales y constructivos. Este modelo permitirá evaluar y comparar distintas estrategias de rehabilitación, así como extrapolar resultados, en base a las limitaciones existentes debido a las singularidades de cada caso de estudio.

This document presents theimplementation ofa Student Behavior Predictor Viewer(SBPV)for a student predictive model. The student predictive model is part of an intelligent tutoring system, and is built from logs of students’ behaviors in the “Virtual Laboratory of Agroforestry Biotechnology”implemented in a previous work.The SBPVis a tool for visualizing a 2D graphical representationof the extended automaton associated with any of the clusters ofthe student predictive model. Apart from visualizing the extended automaton, the SBPV supports the navigation across the automaton by means of desktop devices. More precisely, the SBPV allows user to move through the automaton, to zoom in/out the graphic or to locate a given state. In addition, the SBPV also allows user to modify the default layout of the automaton on the screen by changing the position of the states by means of the mouse. To developthe SBPV, a web applicationwas designedand implementedrelying on HTML5, JavaScript and C#.

Este documento presenta las mejoras y las extensiones introducidas en la herramienta de visualización del modelo predictivo del comportamiento del estudiante o Student Behavior Predictor Viewer (SBPV), implementada en un trabajo anterior. El modelo predictivo del comportamiento del estudiante es parte de un sistema inteligente de tutoría, y se construye a partir de los registros de actividad de los estudiantes en un laboratorio virtual 3D, como el Laboratorio Virtual de Biotecnología Agroforestal, implementado en un trabajo anterior, y cuyos registros de actividad de los estudiantes se han utilizado para validar este trabajo fin de grado. El SBPV es una herramienta para visualizar una representación gráfica 2D del grafo extendido asociado con cualquiera de los clusters del modelo predictivo del estudiante. Además de la visualización del grafo extendido, el SBPV controla la navegación a través del grafo por medio del navegador web. Más concretamente, el SBPV permite al usuario moverse a través del grafo, ampliar o reducir el zoom del gráfico o buscar un determinado estado. Además, el SBPV también permite al usuario modificar el diseño predeterminado del grafo en la pantalla al cambiar la posición de los estados con el ratón. Como parte de este trabajo fin de grado, se han corregido errores existentes en la versión anterior y se han introducido una serie de mejoras en el rendimiento y la usabilidad. En este sentido, se han implementado nuevas funcionalidades, tales como la visualización del modelo de comportamiento de cada estudiante individualmente o la posibilidad de elegir el método de clustering para crear el modelo predictivo del estudiante; así como ha sido necesario rediseñar la interfaz de usuario cambiando el tipo de estructuras gráficas con que se muestran los elementos del modelo y mejorando la visualización del grafo al interaccionar el usuario con él. Todas estas mejoras se explican detenidamente en el presente documento.---ABSTRACT---This document presents the improvements and extensions made to the visualization tool Student Behavior Predictor Viewer (SBPV), implemented in a previous job. The student behavior predictive model is part of an intelligent tutoring system, and is built from the records of students activity in a 3D virtual laboratory, like the “Virtual Laboratory of Agroforestry Biotechnology” implemented in a previous work, and whose records of students activity have been used to validate this final degree work. The SBPV is a tool for visualizing a 2D graphical representation of the extended graph associated with any of the clusters of the student predictive model. Apart from visualizing the extended graph, the SBPV supports the navigation across the graph by means of desktop devices. More precisely, the SBPV allows user to move through the graph, to zoom in/out the graphic or to locate a given state. In addition, the SBPV also allows user to modify the default layout of the graph on the screen by changing the position of the states by means of the mouse. As part of this work, some bugs of the previous version have been fixed and some enhancements have been implemented to improve the performance and the usability. In this sense, we have implemented new features, such as the display of the model behavior of only one student or the possibility of selecting the clustering method to create the student predictive model; as well as it was necessary to redesign the user interface changing the type of graphic structures that show model elements and improving the rendering of the graph when the user interacts with it. All these improvements are explained in detail in the next sections.
RegulonDB (version 3.2): transcriptional regulation and operon organization in Escherichia coli K-12

RegulonDB is a database on mechanisms of transcription regulation and operon organization in Escherichia coli K-12. The current version has considerably increased numbers of regulatory elements such as promoters, binding sites and terminators. The complete repertoire of known and predicted DNA-binding transcriptional regulators can be considered to be included in this version. The database now distinguishes different allosteric conformations of regulatory proteins indicating the one active in binding and regulating the different promoters. A new set of operon predictions has been incorporated. The relational design has been modified accordingly. Furthermore, a major improvement is a graphic display enabling browsing of the database with a Java-based graphic user interface with three zoom-levels connected to properties of each chromosomal element. The purpose of these modifications is to make RegulonDB a useful tool and control set for transcriptome experiments. Over the last thirty years or so, as the number of in-house counsel rose and their role increased in scope and prominence, increased attention has been given the various challenges these lawyers face under the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, from figuring out who is the client the in-house lawyer represents, to navigating conflicts of interest, maintaining independence, and engaging in a multijurisdictional practice of law. Less attention, to date, has been given to business risk assessment, perhaps in part because that function appears to be part of in-house counsel’s role as a business person rather than as a lawyer. Overlooking the role of in-house counsel in assessing risk, however, is a risky proposition, because risk assessment constitutes for some in-house counsel a significant aspect of their role, a role that in turn informs and shapes how in-house counsel perform other more overtly legal tasks. For example, wearing her hat as General Counsel, a lawyer for the entity-client may opine and explain issues of compliance with the law. Wearing her hat as the Chief Legal Officer, however, the same lawyer may now be called upon as a member of business management to participate in the decision whether to comply with the law. After outlining some of the traditional challenges faced by in-house counsel under the Rules, this short essay explores risk assessment by in-house counsel and its impact on their role and function under the Rules. It argues that the key to in-house lawyers’ successful navigation of multiple roles, and, in particular, to their effective assessment of business risk is keen awareness of the various hats they are called upon to wear. Navigating these various roles may not be easy for lawyers, whose training and habits of mind often teach them to zoom in on legal risks to the exclusion of business risks. Indeed, law schools continue to teach law students “to think like a lawyer” and law firms, the historical breeding grounds for in-house counsel positions, in a world of increased specialization master the narrower contemplation of legal questions. Yet the present and future of in-house counsel practice demand of its practitioners the careful and gradual coming to terms, buildup and mastery of business risk analysis skills, alongside the cultivation of traditional legal risk analysis tools.

O contexto tecnológico em que vivemos é uma realidade. E a tendência é para ser assim também no futuro. Cada vez mais. É o caso das representações de locais e entidades em mapas digitais na web. Na visão de Crocker (2014), esta tendência é ainda mais acentuada, no âmbito das aplicações móveis, como mostram as mais diversas location-based applications. No setor do desporto e da respetiva gestão nem sempre foi fácil desenvolver aplicações, recorrendo a este tipo de representações espaciais. A tecnologia não era fácil e o know-how não era adequadamente qualificado. Mas, as empresas fornecedoras de tecnologia geoespacial simplificaram o desenvolvimento de aplicações web nesta área, através da utilização de application programming interfaces (API). Como refere Svennerberg (2010), estas API’s servem de interface entre um serviço proporcionado por uma empresa, caso da Google Maps (2013) e uma aplicação web ou móvel que utiliza esses serviços. Foi com este objetivo que desenvolvemos uma aplicação web, utilizando as metodologias próprias neste domínio, como a framework de Zachman (2009), tal como foi originalmente adaptada por Whitten e Bentley (2005), onde um dos módulos é precisamente a representação de espaços desportivos, recorrendo à utilização dos serviços da Google Maps. Para além disso, toda a aplicação é suportada numa abordagem Model-View-Control (MVC). Para conseguir representar as instalações desportivas num mapa, criámos uma base de dados MySQL, com dados de longitude e latitude, de cada instalação desportiva. Através de JavaScript criou-se o mapa propriamente dito, indicando o tipo (mapa de estradas, satélite ou street view) e as respetivas opções (nível de zoom, alinhamento, controlo de interface e posicionamente, entre muitas outras opções). O passo seguinte consistiu em passar os dados para o frontend da aplicação web. Para isso, recorreu-se à integração do PHP com as livrarias externas de código JavaSrcipt, criadas especificamente para o efeito (caso da MarkerManager). A implementação destas funcionalidades permite georeferenciar todos os tipos e géneros de espaços desportivos de um concelho, região ou País. Obteve-se ainda know-how, background e massa crítica, para o desenvolvimento de novas funcionalidades. A sua utilização em dispositivos móveis é outra das possibilidades atualmente já em desenvolvimento.

When visual sensor networks are composed of cameras which can adjust the zoom factor of their own lens, one must determine the optimal zoom levels for the cameras, for a given task. This gives rise to an important trade-off between the overlap of the different cameras’ fields of view, providing redundancy, and image quality. In an object tracking task, having multiple cameras observe the same area allows for quicker recovery, when a camera fails. In contrast having narrow zooms allow for a higher pixel count on regions of interest, leading to increased tracking confidence. In this paper we propose an approach for the self-organisation of redundancy in a distributed visual sensor network, based on decentralised multi-objective online learning using only local information to approximate the global state. We explore the impact of different zoom levels on these trade-offs, when tasking omnidirectional cameras, having perfect 360-degree view, with keeping track of a varying number of moving objects. We further show how employing decentralised reinforcement learning enables zoom configurations to be achieved dynamically at runtime according to an operator’s preference for maximising either the proportion of objects tracked, confidence associated with tracking, or redundancy in expectation of camera failure. We show that explicitly taking account of the level of overlap, even based only on local knowledge, improves resilience when cameras fail. Our results illustrate the trade-off between maintaining high confidence and object coverage, and maintaining redundancy, in anticipation of future failure. Our approach provides a fully tunable decentralised method for the self-organisation of redundancy in a changing environment, according to an operator’s preferences.
