El trabajo de grado propuesto pretende dar a conocer algunas características que poseen las 4 principales Universidades de Bogotá como lo son la Javeriana, los Andes, la Sabana y el Rosario en cuanto a educación virtual, infraestructura para soportar la red de Internet, nivel de penetración y el uso que le dan a esta herramienta informática los estudiantes de cada plantel educativo. Por consiguiente, se analizará el entorno internacional, como evolucionó el tema desde sus orígenes en los Estados Unidos, su situación actual y los alcances de la herramienta en los países del mundo. Además se mostrará cómo se encuentran las tecnologías de la información y comunicación en algunas universidades del mundo, su aplicativo en los estudiantes y las ventajas que ofrecen para la educación actual y futura. Del mismo de las Universidades de Bogotá, su frecuencia de uso, actividades más comunes a través de esta herramienta, infraestructura para soportar esta herramienta, calidad del servicio, nivel de satisfacción y lo más importante quizás, es conocer si los estudiantes de las 4 principales modo se estudiará el nivel de penetración del Internet en los estudiantes universidades de Bogotá utilizan los medios electrónicos en las mismas instalaciones de las universidades. Para el desarrollo de esta investigación se realizaron encuestas a las directivas y personas encargados de temas afines en cada una de las universidades de estudio, de tal manera, que pudiéramos acercarnos a como se maneja el tema actualmente en las universidades de la capital colombiana, su desarrollo a lo largo del tiempo y su proyección hacia el futuro. Tras analizar los resultados de las entrevistas con directivas de los centros educativos, recopilar y analizar información relacionada al tema del Internet en las universidades, se llega a responder el principal objetivo de la investigación propuesta, el cual se fundamenta en conocer cuál es el perfil del usuario de medios electrónicos en las 4 principales universidades de Bogotá.

El presente trabajo de grado busca optimizar el proceso de Picking en la empresa productora de lentes oftálmicos Compulens y Llanes LTDA, para disminuir tiempos y agilizar la operación. Se utilizarán herramientas vistas a lo largo del pregrado de Administración en Logística y Producción, para realizar un análisis profundo del estado actual del proceso y el Layout de la bodega, para después aplicar herramientas propias de la investigación de operaciones, logística interna, entre otras, y proponer soluciones para conseguir los resultados esperados. Se partirá de un análisis de todos los tipos de bases para lentes oftálmicos que se tallan en la empresa, para plantear mejoras y buenas prácticas en los procesos que se llevan a cabo dentro de la bodega de almacenamiento. Dichas mejoras y recomendaciones tienen como finalidad ayudar a la empresa a cumplir la promesa de servicio a los clientes y evitar el atraso en la entrega de pedidos.

Las decisiones en el mundo empresarial se basan en el supuesto de la existencia de recursos limitados. Sin importar el tamaño de las compañías, existen procesos cruciales que no pueden ser ejecutados dadas limitaciones de personal, activos físicos, financieros entre otros. Por lo anterior, propuestas como las Teoría de las Restricciones (Theory of Constraints - TOC) y el Manejo en base a Actividades (Activity-Based Management – AMB) se han posicionado como un marco de desarrollo dentro de los procesos administrativos y de producción de las compañías. En el presente proyecto se analizará el caso del proceso de reclamos presentados por los clientes en Salón Profesional, una de las Áreas de Negocio de la empresa Procter & Gamble, con el objetivo de formular una alternativa financieramente viable para mejorar el nivel de servicio en la resolución de reclamos para los clientes de Salón Profesional de Latinoamérica.

Los procesos de formación de profesionales de salud idóneos en el mundo, complementan su conocimiento entre dos componentes fundamentales, un componente teórico y el otro componente práctico. La formación que recibe en las aulas y la realización de las prácticas académicas a las cuales pueda acceder, le permite al estudiante trasformar el conocimiento académico adquirido en conocimiento cercano a la realidad y con fundamento profesional, razón por la cual las Instituciones Educativas tienen la responsabilidad de formar profesionales que sean capaces de desempeñarse en componentes sociales, administrativos y prácticos. Dentro de las ventajas que aporta la realización de las prácticas en la formación de los profesionales en salud se reconocen: la posibilidad de tener una visión de la responsabilidad del trabajo a la cual se van a ver enfrentados, desarrollar habilidades de interrelaciones sociales, incrementar su nivel de madurez, desarrollar e implementar estrategias de supervisión y así lograr el reconocimiento personal del nivel de confianza en su desempeño. Sin embargo también se puede convertir en un aspecto negativo si la práctica no se desarrolla de manera adecuada y si no logra tener una integración exitosa con el conocimiento teórico. Para el caso de la formación de talento humano en salud, el espacio utilizado para la realización de estas prácticas son las Instituciones Prestadoras de Servicios de Salud, deben ser lugares que les faciliten a los estudiantes encontrar una relación integral entre la formación teórica y su aplicación a la práctica profesional, de esta manera el estudiante podrá incrementar su preparación específica. Las prácticas académicas tienen interés en la formación de profesionales y representan un período donde el estudiante se convierte en sujeto entre la Institución Educativa y la Institución Prestadora. Es un espacio de inducción que le permite al estudiante realizar una evaluación de sí mismo y a la vez puede evaluar el entorno donde se va a desarrollar en su colectivo profesional. El objetivo de esta investigación es desarrollar una herramienta técnica que le permita a la Dirección facilitar la supervisión, el monitoreo y la evaluación de convenios de Docencia-Servicio en las Instituciones Prestadoras de Servicios de Salud, garantizando el respeto a los derechos de los usuarios, la calidad de los servicios prestados, la seguridad del paciente y la humanización de la atención, aspectos que no pueden ser afectados negativamente por el desarrollo de las prácticas académicas. Todas las actividades asistenciales que sean desarrolladas por estudiantes en la realización de su práctica profesional, deben ser realizadas bajo una estricta supervisión de docentes y de personal especializado responsable de la prestación del servicio, dando cumplimiento con el Sistema de Garantía de la Calidad del Sistema de Seguridad en Salud en Colombia.

La gestión de inventarios es uno de los grandes retos que afrontan las empresas hoy en día, especialmente aquellas que manipulan productos con altas probabilidades de daños y averías, razón por la cual definir políticas o un sistema de gestión de inventarios garantizaría una perdurabilidad y sostenibilidad en el mercado más prolongada. Es por ello que el proyecto planteado a continuación desarrollado en la empresa Diageo, multinacional de consumo masivo del sector licores, está inscrito en la línea de investigación de Gerencia de la Universidad del Rosario. De esta manera, bajo el programa de Áreas funcionales para la dirección que cuenta con un enfoque en perdurabilidad empresarial, la línea de investigación en Gerencia busca generar conocimientos sobre finanzas, mercadeo, operaciones y gestión humana. Por lo anterior, partiendo de la premisa de que una empresa perdurable es aquella que “adecúa su manejo a la intensidad de las condiciones del entorno sectorial y las fuerzas del mercado” (Leal, Guerrero, Rojas, & Rivera, 2011), se hace necesario orientar los recursos y esfuerzos de la empresa hacia una nueva política de inventarios en el portafolio de vinos, de modo que al incrementar el nivel de servicio se afecten positivamente indicadores de rentabilidad y liquidez.

This paper focuses on improving computer network management by the adoption of artificial intelligence techniques. A logical inference system has being devised to enable automated isolation, diagnosis, and even repair of network problems, thus enhancing the reliability, performance, and security of networks. We propose a distributed multi-agent architecture for network management, where a logical reasoner acts as an external managing entity capable of directing, coordinating, and stimulating actions in an active management architecture. The active networks technology represents the lower level layer which makes possible the deployment of code which implement teleo-reactive agents, distributed across the whole network. We adopt the Situation Calculus to define a network model and the Reactive Golog language to implement the logical reasoner. An active network management architecture is used by the reasoner to inject and execute operational tasks in the network. The integrated system collects the advantages coming from logical reasoning and network programmability, and provides a powerful system capable of performing high-level management tasks in order to deal with network fault.

Traditional resource management has had as its main objective the optimization of throughput, based on parameters such as CPU, memory, and network bandwidth. With the appearance of Grid markets, new variables that determine economic expenditure, benefit and opportunity must be taken into account. The Self-organizing ICT Resource Management (SORMA) project aims at allowing resource owners and consumers to exploit market mechanisms to sell and buy resources across the Grid. SORMA's motivation is to achieve efficient resource utilization by maximizing revenue for resource providers and minimizing the cost of resource consumption within a market environment. An overriding factor in Grid markets is the need to ensure that the desired quality of service levels meet the expectations of market participants. This paper explains the proposed use of an economically enhanced resource manager (EERM) for resource provisioning based on economic models. In particular, this paper describes techniques used by the EERM to support revenue maximization across multiple service level agreements and provides an application scenario to demonstrate its usefulness and effectiveness. We propose adding a temporal dimension to stakeholder management theory, and assess the implications thereof for firm-level competitive advantage. We argue that a firm’s competitive advantage fundamentally depends on its capacity for stakeholder management related, transformational adaptation over time. Our new temporal stakeholder management approach builds upon insights from both the resource-based view (RBV) in strategic management and institutional theory. Stakeholder agendas and their relative salience to the firm evolve over time, a phenomenon well understood in the literature, and requiring what we call level 1 adaptation. However, the dominant direction of stakeholder pressures can also change, namely, from supporting resource heterogeneity at the firm level to fostering industry homogeneity, and vice versa. When dominant stakeholder pressures shift from supporting heterogeneity towards stimulating homogeneity in industry, the firm must engage in level 2 or transformational adaptation. Stakeholders typically provide valuable resources to the firm in an early stage. Without these resources, which foster heterogeneity (in line with RBV thinking), the firm would not exist. At a later stage, stakeholders also contribute to inter-firm homogeneity via isomorphism pressures (in line with institutional theory thinking). Adding a temporal dimension to stakeholder management theory has far reaching implications for this theory’s practical relevance to senior level management in business.

This graduate study was assigned by Unisys Oy Ab. The purpose of this study was to find tools to monitor and manage servers and objects in a hosting environment and to remotely connect to the managed objects. Better solutions for promised services were also researched. Unisys provides a ServerHotel service to other businesses which do not have time or resources to manage their own network, servers or applications. Contracts are based on a Service Level Agreement where service level is agreed upon according to the customer's needs. These needs have created a demand for management tools. Unisys wanted to find the most appropriate tools for its hosting environment to fulfill the agreed service level with reasonable costs. The theory consists of literary research focusing on general agreements used in the Finnish IT business, different types of monitoring and management tools and the common protocols used inthem. The theory focuses mainly on the central elements of the above mentioned topics and on their positive and negative features. The second part of the study focuses on general hosting agreements and what management tools Unisys has selected for hosting and why. It also gives a more detailed account of the hosting environment and its features in more detail. Because of the results of the study Unisys decided to use Servers Alive to monitor network and MS applications’ services. Cacti was chosen to monitor disk spaces, which gives us an idea of future disk growth. For remote connections the Microsoft’s Remote Desktop tool was the mostappropriate when the connection was tunneled through Secure Shell (SSH). Finding proper tools for the intended purposes with cost-conscious financial resources proved challenging. This study showed that if required, it is possible to build a professional hosting environment.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To a large extent, people who have suffered a stroke report unmet needs for rehabilitation. The purpose of this study was to explore aspects of rehabilitation provision that potentially contribute to self-reported met needs for rehabilitation 12 months after stroke with consideration also to severity of stroke. METHODS: The participants (n = 173) received care at the stroke units at the Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden. Using a questionnaire, the dependent variable, self-reported met needs for rehabilitation, was collected at 12 months after stroke. The independent variables were four aspects of rehabilitation provision based on data retrieved from registers and structured according to four aspects: amount of rehabilitation, service level (day care rehabilitation, primary care rehabilitation and home-based rehabilitation), operator level (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist) and time after stroke onset. Multivariate logistic regression analyses regarding the aspects of rehabilitation were performed for the participants who were divided into three groups based on stroke severity at onset. RESULTS: Participants with moderate/severe stroke who had seen a physiotherapist at least once during each of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd-4th quarters of the first year (OR 8.36, CI 1.40-49.88 P = 0.020) were more likely to report met rehabilitation needs. CONCLUSION: For people with moderate/severe stroke, continuity in rehabilitation (preferably physiotherapy) during the first year after stroke seems to be associated with self-reported met needs for rehabilitation.

Small-scale enterprises face difficulties in fulfilling the regulations for organising Systematic Work Environment Management. This study compared three groups of small-scale manufacturing enterprises with and without support for implementing the provision. Two implementation methods, supervised and network method, were used. The third group worked according to their own ideas. Twenty-three enterprises participated. The effects of the implementation were evaluated after one year by semi-structured dialogue with the manager and safety representative. Each enterprise was classified on compliance with ten demands concerning the provision. The work environment was estimated by the WEST-method. Impact of the implementation on daily work was also studied. At the follow-up, the enterprises in the supervised method reported slightly more improvements in the fulfilment of the demands in the provision than the enterprises in the network method and the enterprises working on their own did. The effect of the project reached the employees faster in the enterprises with the supervised method. In general, the work environment improved to some extent in all enterprises. Extensive support to small-scale enterprises in terms of advise and networking aimed to fulfil the regulations of Systematic Work Environment Management had limited effect especially considering the cost of applying these methods.

The Grid is a large-scale computer system that is capable of coordinating resources that are not subject to centralised control, whilst using standard, open, general-purpose protocols and interfaces, and delivering non-trivial qualities of service. In this chapter, we argue that Grid applications very strongly suggest the use of agent-based computing, and we review key uses of agent technologies in Grids: user agents, able to customize and personalise data; agent communication languages offering a generic and portable communication medium; and negotiation allowing multiple distributed entities to reach service level agreements. In the second part of the chapter, we focus on Grid service discovery, which we have identified as a prime candidate for use of agent technologies: we show that Grid-services need to be located via personalised, semantic-rich discovery processes, which must rely on the storage of arbitrary metadata about services that originates from both service providers and service users. We present UDDI-MT, an extension to the standard UDDI service directory approach that supports the storage of such metadata via a tunnelling technique that ties the metadata store to the original UDDI directory. The outcome is a flexible service registry which is compatible with existing standards and also provides metadata-enhanced service discovery.

MyGrid is an e-Science Grid project that aims to help biologists and bioinformaticians to perform workflow-based in silico experiments, and help them to automate the management of such workflows through personalisation, notification of change and publication of experiments. In this paper, we describe the architecture of myGrid and how it will be used by the scientist. We then show how myGrid can benefit from agents technologies. We have identified three key uses of agent technologies in myGrid: user agents, able to customize and personalise data, agent communication languages offering a generic and portable communication medium, and negotiation allowing multiple distributed entities to reach service level agreements.

This study aimed to assess the Cleaner Production CP as corporate sustainable tool, through the multiple case studies within companies from Rio Grande do Norte State. In order to achieve this goal a research methodology approach was set. The initial stage of the research methodology was based on a literature review on which it was observed that the CP can be linked with corporate sustainable once it prevents pollution and reduces the operational risks among employees, community and environment. In addition, CP can useful for companies position within competitive position as well as being applied to process, products and services. In order to observe these factors, CP was used within food industry (Company 1), textile industry (Company 2) and in a car dealer (Company 3). Regarding the results, Company 1 changed its raw material as well as implementing housekeeping (control use of water, energy and condensed milk). In Company 2, it was observed the three levels of CP. In other words, housekeeping (e.g. cutting process and manipulation of chemical products), changing technology (high pressure washing machine) and internal and external recycling. In addition, Company 3 considered only level 3 external recycling. As consequence, it was observed that can be applied either within industry as well as service sector. Unfortunately, it was not possible to observe any social gains on a monetary basis. This is due to limitations of the CP methodology and study complexity. Therefore, it was observed improvements regarding to social, environmental and economic areas. Nevertheless, it is necessary more commitment from top level management in order to consider CP like effective sustainable tool
