Effect of interaction of tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and tetrathia fulvalene (TTF) with boron- and nitrogen-doped graphene has been investigated by Raman spectroscopy. The G- and 2D bands of boron- and nitrogen-doped graphenes in the Raman spectra show significantly different changes on interaction with electron-donor and -acceptor molecules. Thus, tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) have different effects on the Raman spectra of boron- and nitrogen-doped graphenes. The changes in the Raman spectra brought about by electron-donor and -acceptor molecules can be understood in general terms on the basis of molecular charge transfer. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V. The presence of software bloat in large flexible software systems can hurt energy efficiency. However, identifying and mitigating bloat is fairly effort intensive. To enable such efforts to be directed where there is a substantial potential for energy savings, we investigate the impact of bloat on power consumption under different situations. We conduct the first systematic experimental study of the joint power-performance implications of bloat across a range of hardware and software configurations on modern server platforms. The study employs controlled experiments to expose different effects of a common type of Java runtime bloat, excess temporary objects, in the context of the SPECPower_ssj2008 workload. We introduce the notion of equi-performance power reduction to characterize the impact, in addition to peak power comparisons. The results show a wide variation in energy savings from bloat reduction across these configurations. Energy efficiency benefits at peak performance tend to be most pronounced when bloat affects a performance bottleneck and non-bloated resources have low energy-proportionality. Equi-performance power savings are highest when bloated resources have a high degree of energy proportionality. We develop an analytical model that establishes a general relation between resource pressure caused by bloat and its energy efficiency impact under different conditions of resource bottlenecks and energy proportionality. Applying the model to different "what-if" scenarios, we predict the impact of bloat reduction and corroborate these predictions with empirical observations. Our work shows that the prevalent software-only view of bloat is inadequate for assessing its power-performance impact and instead provides a full systems approach for reasoning about its implications.

Following transmission, HIV-1 adapts in the new host by acquiring mutations that allow it to escape from the host immune response at multiple epitopes. It also reverts mutations associated with epitopes targeted in the transmitting host but not in the new host. Moreover, escape mutations are often associated with additional compensatory mutations that partially recover fitness costs. It is unclear whether recombination expedites this process of multi-locus adaptation. To elucidate the role of recombination, we constructed a detailed population dynamics model that integrates viral dynamics, host immune response at multiple epitopes through cytotoxic T lymphocytes, and viral evolution driven by mutation, recombination, and selection. Using this model, we compute the expected waiting time until the emergence of the strain that has gained escape and compensatory mutations against the new host's immune response, and reverted these mutations at epitopes no longer targeted. We find that depending on the underlying fitness landscape, shaped by both costs and benefits of mutations, adaptation proceeds via distinct dominant pathways with different effects of recombination, in particular distinguishing escape and reversion. When adaptation at a single epitope is involved, recombination can substantially accelerate immune escape but minimally affects reversion. When multiple epitopes are involved, recombination can accelerate or inhibit adaptation depending on the fitness landscape. Specifically, recombination tends to delay adaptation when a purely uphill fitness landscape is accessible at each epitope, and accelerate it when a fitness valley is associated with each epitope. Our study points to the importance of recombination in shaping the adaptation of HIV-1 following its transmission to new hosts, a process central to T cell-based vaccine strategies. Three kinds of forebody model of hypersonic vehicles were studied with numerical simulation method. It shows that the two- order compressive ramp model is the best selection among the three for its good evaluative parameters value at the cowl of the inlet . This model can provide higher value of flux coefficient and total pressure recovery coefficient and lower average Mach number compared with those of the other two models . Simultaneously different compressive angles may have different effects . The configuration which the firstorder of compressive angle is 4°and the second 5°is the optimum combination. Furthermore factors such as attack angle were concerned. Better result may be obtained with a range of attack angles . Based on the work above the integrated design for forebodyPinlet of a hypersonic vehicle was performed. The numerical result shows that this integrated model provides good flow field quality for inlet and engine work.

[ES] Los programas de innovación rural han supuesto un verdadero revulsivo para determinadas regiones europeas, por cuanto han representado una cuantiosa inversión que ha necesitado de una adecuada gestión para dirigir el destino de unos fondos estructurales. En este sentido, el presente trabajo analiza la inversión de estos programas de desarrollo en medidas de apoyo al sector del turismo rural, que han supuesto un importante incremento de la oferta a diversos niveles: aumento de alojamientos rurales, del número de plazas disponibles para turistas, rehabilitación del patrimonio, puesta en valor de elementos históricos y recuperación, en definitiva, del patrimonio histórico, cultural, arquitectónico y natural del mundo rural.

The basis for a long-term profitable fishery is a precautionary and environment-compatible use of fish stocks. The fishery management presently models the exploitation through the parameters of fishing mortality and the age at first capture. These two parameters are translated into the technical measures of fishing effort and mesh openings and quotas, which are then used in practice for controlling the fishery. Stock protection can be achieved by reducing the fishing effort, by assigning smaller quotas, by reducing the number of days at sea, or by increasing the mesh opening. The respective protection measures have different effects on the development of the stocks but also on the revenue obtained by the fishery. These alternatives have been examined taking as an example the cod stock in the western Baltic. The optimization goal was the maximization of profit observing at the same time the prerequisites for stock protection according to the precaution approach. For these calculations the same models and data have been used as are beeing used in the stock management of the ACFM of ICES. The response of altered technical measures to the recruitment of cod stock was considered, and a proposal to overcome overfishing of cod in the western Baltic Sea was derived.

The investigation of the effect of micro impurity on crystal growth by optical microscopy has been validated. The results showed that the growth rate of a lysozyme crystal was affected even if the concentration of impurity of fluorescent-labeled lysozyme (abbreviation, F-lysozyme) was very small. Different concentrations of F-lysozyme had different effects on crystal growth rate. The growth rate decreased much more as F-lysozyme concentration increased. The density of incorporated F-lysozyme on different grown layers of a lysozyme crystal during crystal growth was obtained from the results of flat-bottomed etch pits density. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. We analyze mutual alignment errors due to wave-front aberrations. To solve the central obscured problem, we introduce modified Zernike polynomials, which are a set of complete orthogonal polynomials. It is found that different aberrations have different effects on mutual alignment errors. Some aberrations influence only the line of sight, while some aberrations influence both the line of sight and the intensity distributions. (c) 2005 Optical Society of America

The gain of a transmitter for intersatellite communications is closely related to the performance of all the links. We calculate the transmitter telescope's gain with the help of the rigorous scalar diffraction theory and equivalent optical layout method. Furthermore, a comparison is performed with the conventional imaging method. The results show that the stop inside the telescope can affect the gain of the telescope. The cerebellum is a major supraspinal center involved in the coordination of movement. The principal neurons of the cerebellar cortex, Purkinje cells, receive excitatory synaptic input from two sources: the parallel and climbing fibers. These pathways have markedly different effects: the parallel fibers control the rate of simple sodium spikes, while the climbing fibers induce characteristic complex spike bursts, which are accompanied by dendritic calcium transients and play a key role in regulating synaptic plasticity. While many studies using a variety of species, behaviors, and cerebellar regions have documented modulation in Purkinje cell activity during movement, few have attempted to record from these neurons in unrestrained rodents. In this dissertation, we use chronic, multi-tetrode recording in freely-behaving rats to study simple and complex spike firing patterns during locomotion and sleep. Purkinje cells discharge rhythmically during stepping, but this activity is highly variable across steps. We show that behavioral variables systematically influence the step-locked firing rate in a step-phase-dependent way, revealing a functional clustering of Purkinje cells. Furthermore, we find a pronounced disassociation between patterns of variability driven by the parallel and climbing fibers, as well as functional differences between cerebellar lobules. These results suggest that Purkinje cell activity not only represents step phase within each cycle, but is also shaped by behavior across steps, facilitating control of movement under dynamic conditions. During sleep, we observe an attenuation of both simple and complex spiking, relative to awake behavior. Although firing rates during slow wave sleep (SWS) and rapid eye movement sleep (REM) are similar, simple spike activity is highly regular in SWS, while REM is characterized by phasic increases and pauses in simple spiking. This phasic activity in REM is associated with pontine waves, which propagate into the cerebellar cortex and modulate both simple and complex spiking. Such a temporal coincidence between parallel and climbing fiber activity is known to drive plasticity at parallel fiber synapses; consequently, pontocerebellar waves may provide a mechanism for tuning synaptic weights in the cerebellum during active sleep.

The three-photon absorption (3PA) properties of two thiophene-fluorene derivatives (abbreviated as MOTFTBr and ATFTBr) have been determined by using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser pumped wish 38ps pulses at 1064nm in DMF. The measured 3PA cross-sections are 152x10(-78)cm(6)s(2) and 139x10(-78)cm(6)s(2), respectively. The optimized structures were obtained by AM1 calculations and the results indicate that these two molecules show nonplanar structures, and attaching different donors has different effects on the molecular structure. The charge density distributions during the excitation were also systematically studied by using AM1 method. In addition, an obvious optical power limiting effect induced by 3PA has been demonstrated for both derivatives.

O presente estudo tem como tema central o trabalho docente em instituições privadas de ensino superior, em um contexto em que os trabalhadores estão subsumidos à ordem do capitalismo flexível e às suas diversas formas de dominação. Analisam-se os modos de organização do trabalho no campo educacional, e suas repercussões na educação superior. Realizam-se considerações sobre os sentidos de esfera pública e esfera privada, no âmbito do atual Estado burguês. Destacam-se alguns momentos da história da educação superior brasileira, e a trajetória de desenvolvimento desse nível de ensino no Brasil e em especial no Maranhão, estado que foi escolhido para ser o campo empírico da tese. Nesse percurso, dá-se ênfase para alguns dispositivos legais pós-LDB (1996) que facilitaram a expansão do setor privado/mercantil. O referencial teórico-metodológico assenta-se nas teorizações marxianas e marxistas, portanto, na articulação com a pesquisa empírica, fazendo-se necessário ultrapassar os limites das manifestações fenomênicas, para buscar as suas raízes, que, por sua vez, não são imediatamente observáveis. Utiliza-se, também, para essa finalidade a Teoria Social do Discurso, elaborada por Norman Fairclough. A partir do estudo de campo realizado é possível identificar um contexto de intensa precarização nas relações de trabalho dos professores nessas instituições, com a combinação de muitos elementos, objetivos e subjetivos, no complexo cotidiano desse trabalhador, entre eles: controles e pressões no cumprimento de prazos, salários rebaixados, cobranças, constrangimentos, sofrimentos, dores, ausência de democracia e de reconhecimento por parte dos superiores hierárquicos, sobrecarga de trabalho, desânimo, mas, também, transgressões de regras e normas, enfretamentos, satisfações, prazeres, momentos de criatividade e motivação, esses últimos componentes vividos, especialmente na relação com os alunos. Essas situações e sentimentos que transitam entre a dualidade prazer-sofrimento geram muitas e diferentes repercussões na saúde dos professores e para essa discussão lança-se mão de autores da Psicodinâmica do Trabalho. Conclui-se que para se pensar a possibilidade de uma educação humanizadora e avessa à perspectiva pragmática e mercantilista, tão em voga na atualidade, tornam-se necessários a superação do modelo neoliberal, a retomada da esfera pública como central e estratégica e a defesa do trabalho docente, permeado por dignidade, sentido e reconhecimento.

[EN]This project aims to determine the factors which influence workers’ wages in the Basque Country, taking data from the INE (Spanish Statistical Office). In first place, I will decide which variables to choose and describe them. Then they will be used to build a wage model. At this point I will observe their behaviour according to their values and the possible differences between them. Once these variables are described, they will be used to develop an econometric model that will allow to see the different effects of the variables on the endogenous variable, in this case the gross annual wage. Finally, all the analysed data will be taken and examined to draw the final conclusions and see how workers’ age, training or gender affect their salary. [EN]
