Breakup effects in fusion and total reaction cross sections of weakly bound systems

We use a new technique to investigate the systematic behavior of near barrier complete fusion, total fusion and total reaction cross sections of weakly bound systems. A dimensionless fusion excitation function is used as a benchmark to which renormalized fusion data are compared and dynamic breakup effects can be disentangled from static effects. The same reduction procedure is used to study the effect of the direct reaction mechanisms on the total reaction cross section.

Universal trend for heavy-ion total reaction cross-sections at energies above the Coulomb barrier

Heavy-ion total reaction cross-section measurements for more than 1100 reaction cases covering 61 target nuclei in the range (6)Li-(238)U and 158 projectile nuclei from (2)H to (84)Kr (mostly exotic ones) have been analyzed in a systematic way by using an empirical, three-parameter formula that is applicable to the cases of projectile kinetic energies above the Coulomb barrier. The analysis has shown that the average total nuclear binding energy per nucleon of the interacting nuclei and their radii are the chief quantities that describe the cross-section patterns. A great amount of cross-section data (87%) has been quite satisfactorily reproduced by the proposed formula; therefore, the total reaction cross-section predictions for new, not yet experimentally investigated reaction cases can be obtained within 25% (or much less) uncertainty.

Total reaction cross-sections for light weakly bound systems

We have measured the elastic scattering cross-section for (8)Li + (9)Be and (8)Li + (51)V systems at 19.6 MeV and 18.5 MeV, respectively. We have also extracted total reaction cross sections from the elastic scattering analysis for several light weakly bound systems using the optical model with Woods-Saxon and double-folding-type potentials. Different reduction methods for the total reaction cross-sections have been applied to analyze and compare simultaneously all the systems.

An ultrasound-assisted synthesis of functionalized vinylic chlorides is described by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of potassium aryltrifluoroborate salts and (Z)-2-chloro vinylic tellurides. Sulfur-containing palladacycles: Efficient phosphine-free catalyst precursors for the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction at room temperature

Cyclopalladated compounds derived from the ortho-metalation of benzylic tert-butyl thioethers are excellent catalyst precursors for the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of aryl bromides and chlorides with phenylboronic acid under mild reaction conditions. A broad range of substrates and functional groups are tolerated in this protocol, and highly catalytic activity is attained.

4-Organochalcogenoyl-1H-1,2,3-triazoles: synthesis and functionalization by a nickel-catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling reaction

A general method for the synthesis of triazoles containing selenium and tellurium was accomplished via a CuCAAC reaction between organic azides and a terminal triple bond, generated by in situ deprotection of the silyl group. The reaction tolerates alkyl and arylazides, with alkyl and aryl substituents directly bonded to the chalcogen atom. The products were readily functionalized by a nickel-catalyzed Negishi cross-coupling reaction, furnishing the aryl-heteroaryl products at the 4-position in good yields. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Charge transfer reactions of organic ions containing oxygen: Correlation between reaction energetics and cross sections

Cross sections for charge transfer reactions of organic ions containing oxygen have been obtained using time-of-flight techniques. Charge transfer cross sections have been determined for reactions of 2.0 to 3.4 keV ions produced by electron impact ionization of oxygen containing molecules such as methanol, ethanal and ethanol. Experimental cross section magnitudes have been correlated with reaction energy defects computed from ion recombination energies and target ionization energies. Large cross sections are observed for reacting systems with small energy defects.

Cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction using copper oxide impregnated on magnetite in deep eutectic solvents

The synthesis of different tetrahydroisoquinolines using choline chloride : ethylene glycol as a deep eutectic solvent (DES) and copper(II) oxide impregnated on magnetite as a catalyst has been accomplished successfully. The copper catalyst amount is the lowest loading ever reported. The presence of DES showed to be essential since the reaction in the absence of this medium did not proceed. A direct proportional relationship was found between the conductivity of DES medium and the yield obtained. The DES and the catalyst could be reused up to ten times without any detrimental effect on the yield of the reaction, with the aerobic conditions making the protocol highly sustainable, where the only waste is water.

Pre-adoption market reaction to IFRS 9:a cross-country event-study

We are the first to examine the market reaction to 13 announcement dates related to IFRS 9 for over 5400 European listed firms. We find an overall positive reaction to the introduction of IFRS 9. The regulation is particularly beneficial to shareholders of firms in countries with weaker rule of law and a smaller divergence between local GAAP and IAS 39. Bootstrap simulations rule out the possibility that sampling error or data mining are driving our findings. Our main findings are also robust to confounding events and the extent of the media coverage for each event. These results suggest that investors perceive the new regulation as shareholder-wealth enhancing and support the view that stronger comparability across accounting standards of European firms is beneficial to international investors and outweighs the costs of poorer firm-specific information.
