The pro sectile-like fragments of ~(16)O + ~(64)Ni Reaction (Elab = 96 MeV) were measured by using ionization chamber telescopes. The countour plots of d~36/dndEdz in TKE-θ plane angular distribution integrating over different TKE window. The z-distribution and angular distributions of different fragments from He to O were obtained. The main mechanisms dominating in this reaction were discussed

A new method for synthesis of novel hyperbranched poly(ester-amide)s from commercially available AA' and CBx type monomers has been developed on the basis of a series of model reactions. The hyperbranched poly(ester-amide)s with multihydroxyl end groups are prepared by thermal polycondensation of carboxyl anhydrides (AA') and multihydroxyl primary amine (CBx) without any catalyst and solvent. The reaction mechanism in the initial stage of polymerization was investigated with in situ H-1 NMR. In the initial stage of the reaction, primary amino groups of 2-amino-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol (AEPO) or tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (THAM) react rapidly with anhydride, forming an intermediate which can be considered as a new AB(x) type monomer. Further self-polycondensation reactions of the AB. molecules produce hyperbranched polymers. Analysis using H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy revealed the degree of branching of the resulting polymers ranging from 0.36 to 0.55. These hyperbranched poly(ester-amide)s contain configurational isomers observed by C-13 and DEPT C-13 NMR spectroscopy, possess high molecular weights with broad distributions and display glass-transition temperatures (T(g)s) between 7 and 96 degreesC.

This report summarizes the technical presentations and discussions that took place during RTDB'96: the First International Workshop on Real-Time Databases, which was held on March 7 and 8, 1996 in Newport Beach, California. The main goals of this project were to (1) review recent advances in real-time database systems research, (2) to promote interaction among real-time database researchers and practitioners, and (3) to evaluate the maturity and directions of real-time database technology.

The effects of ocean acidification (OA) on nitrous oxide (N2O) production and on the community composition of ammonium oxidizing archaea (AOA) were examined in the northern and southern sub-polar and polar Atlantic Ocean. Two research cruises were performed during June 2012 between the North Sea and Arctic Greenland and Barent Seas, and in January–February 2013 to the Antarctic Scotia Sea. Seven stations were occupied in all during which shipboard experimental manipulations of the carbonate chemistry were performed through additions of NaHCO3−+HCl in order to examine the impact of short-term (48 h for N2O and between 96 and 168 h for AOA) exposure to control and elevated conditions of OA. During each experiment, triplicate incubations were performed at ambient conditions and at 3 lowered levels of pH which varied between 0.06 and 0.4 units according to the total scale and which were targeted at CO2 partial pressures of ~500, 750 and 1000 µatm. The AOA assemblage in both Arctic and Antarctic regions was dominated by two major archetypes that represent the marine AOA clades most often detected in seawater. There were no significant changes in AOA assemblage composition between the beginning and end of the incubation experiments. N2O production was sensitive to decreasing pHT at all stations and decreased by between 2.4% and 44% with reduced pHT values of between 0.06 and 0.4. The reduction in N2O yield from nitrification was directly related to a decrease of between 28% and 67% in available NH3 as a result of the pH driven shift in the NH3:NH4+ equilibrium. The maximum reduction in N2O production at conditions projected for the end of the 21st century was estimated to be 0.82 Tg N y−1.

Hyperglycemia increases expression of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-beta receptor and potentiates chemotaxis to PDGF-BB in human aortic vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) via PI3K and ERK/MAPK signaling pathways. The purpose of this study was to determine whether increased activation of protein kinase C (PKC) isoforms had a modulatory effect on the PI3K and ERK/MAPK pathways, control of cell adhesiveness, and movement. All known PKC isoforms were assessed but only PKC alpha and PKC beta II levels were increased in 25 mmol/L glucose. However, only PKC beta II inhibition affected (decreased) PI3K pathway and MAPK pathway activities and inhibited PDGF-beta receptor upregulation in raised glucose, and specific MAPK inhibition was required to completely block the effect of glucose. In raised glucose conditions, activity of the ERK/MAPK pathway, PI3K pathway, and PKC beta II were all sensitive to aldose reductase inhibition. Chemotaxis to PDGF-BB (360 pmol/L), absent in 5 mmol/L glucose, was present in raised glucose and could be blocked by PKC beta II inhibition. Formation of lamellipodia was dependent on PI3K activation and filopodia on MAPK activation; both lamellipodia and filopodia were eliminated when PKC beta II was inhibited. FAK phosphorylation and cell adhesion were reduced by PI3K inhibition, and although MAPK inhibition prevented chemotaxis, it did not affect FAK phosphorylation or cell adhesiveness. In conclusion, chemotaxis to PDGF-BB in 25 mmol/L glucose is PKC beta II-dependent and requires activation of both the PI3K and MAPK pathways. Changes in cell adhesion and migration speed are mediated mainly through the PI3K pathway.

We have previously demonstrated that histone deacetylase 7 (HDAC7) expression and splicing play an important role in smooth muscle cell (SMC) differentiation from embryonic stem (ES) cells, but the molecular mechanisms of increased HDAC7 expression during SMC differentiation are currently unknown. In this study, we found that platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) induced a 3-fold increase in the transcripts of HDAC7 in differentiating ES cells. Importantly, our data also revealed that PDGF-BB regulated HDAC7 expression not through phosphorylation of HDAC7 but through transcriptional activation. By dissecting its promoters with progressive deletion analysis, we identified the sequence between -343 and -292 bp in the 5'-flanking region of the Hdac7 gene promoter as the minimal PDGF-BB-responsive element, which contains one binding site for the transcription factor, specificity protein 1 (Sp1). Mutation of the Sp1 site within this PDGF-BB-responsive element abolished PDGF-BB-induced HDAC7 activity. PDGF-BB treatment enhanced Sp1 binding to the Hdac7 promoter in differentiated SMCs in vivo as demonstrated by the chromatin immunoprecipitation assay. Moreover, we also demonstrated that knockdown of Sp1 abrogated PDGF-BB-induced HDAC7 up-regulation and SMC differentiation gene expression in differentiating ES cells, although enforced expression of Sp1 alone was sufficient to increase the activity of the Hdac7 promoter and expression levels of SMC differentiation genes. Importantly, we further demonstrated that HDAC7 was required for Sp1-induced SMC differentiation of gene expression. Our data suggest that Sp1 plays an important role in the regulation of Hdac7 gene expression in SMC differentiation from ES cells. These findings provide novel molecular insights into the regulation of HDAC7 and enhance our knowledge in SMC differentiation and vessel formation during embryonic development.
