Understanding the communication needs of individuals with hearing loss in the workplace

The purpose of this project was to determine the specific needs of individuals with hearing impairment in the workplace. Focus groups were conducted with this population to evaluate needs. Results are depicted as specific concerns noted throughout the focus groups.

Reception of acoustic speech signals as a function of sensation levels by hearing-impaired children

This paper is a review of a study to determine the sensation level at which the best discrimination and recognition occurs for severely and profoundly deaf children and the effect of distortion (peak clipping) has on the child's ability to recognize speech.

Current Trends in Hearing Assistance Technology

A survey was distributed to practicing audiologists regarding the dispensing trends of Hearing Assistance Technology. Sixty-one responses were collected and analyzed revealing significant trends in HAT dispensing.

Educating deaf and hard of hearing students in the mainstream classroom

This paper examines the mainstreaming of hearing-impaired students in regular education classrooms. It evaluates the areas where teachers need more information regarding deafness, hearing loss and the teaching of hearing-impaired students. The paper also presents a list of resources to assist teachers in the education of hearing-impaired students in the mainstream classroom.

Promoting social skills in hearing impaired children ages 11 - 14

This paper presents a project teaching social skills to hearing-impaired children ages 11 to 14. Three categories of social skills are included - sportsmanship, sharing, and cooperating – and are practiced by means of recreational and leisure activities and through role plays.
