Objetivo:Avaliar a capacidade de predição das formas precoce e tardia da pré-eclâmpsia pela dilatação fluxo-mediada da artéria braquial (FMD), marcador biofísico de disfunção endotelial.Materiais e Métodos:Um total de 91 pacientes de alto risco para desenvolvimento de pré-eclâmpsia foi submetido a FMD entre 24 e 28 semanas de gestação.Resultados:Das pacientes selecionadas, 19 desenvolveram pré-eclâmpsia, sendo 8 em sua forma precoce e 11 em sua forma tardia. Usando-se um valor de corte de 6,5%, a sensibilidade (S) da FMD para predição de pré-eclâmpsia precoce foi 75,0%, com especificidade (E) de 73,3%, valor preditivo positivo (VPP) de 32,4% e valor preditivo negativo (VPN) de 91,9%. Para predição de pré-eclâmpsia tardia, encontrou-se valor de S de 83,3%, E de 73,2%, VPP de 34,4% e VPN de 96,2%. Para a predição de todas as formas associadas de pré-eclâmpsia, encontrou-se valor de S de 84,2%, E de 73,6%, VPP de 45,7% e VPN de 94,6%.Conclusão:A FMD se mostrou uma ferramenta com boa capacidade de predição de pré-eclâmpsia, nas suas formas tardia e precoce, o que pode representar um impacto positivo no acompanhamento de gestantes de alto risco para desenvolvimento dessa síndrome.

Los aspectos afectivos se han revelado de una importancia fundamental en los procesos de aprendizaje. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo determinar los factores asociados a la idea por parte de los estudiantes de que se ha creado un clima de confianza y aceptación en los grupos de trabajo que deben llevar a cabo una experiencia de trabajo colaborativo mediada por ordenador (CSCL) en un contexto universitario. La metodología que se emplea se basa en un análisis estadístico correlacional, con la aplicación del estadístico exacto de Fisher, a partir de los datos obtenidos en un cuestionario final que se pasó a los estudiantes de los grupos implicados en la experiencia. El examen de las variables permite determinar algunos de los factores que se relacionan con el clima que favorece la cohesión grupal: trabajar para el resultado común, establecer un entorno comunicativo en que se comparte la información y hay una revisión mutua de las diferentes aportaciones, interesarse por dar apoyo a los otros miembros del grupo, el desarrollo social del grupo o el diseño flexible del entorno didáctico son algunos de los factores que muestran relevancia estadística. A partir de aquí, los aspectos destacados por los resultados podrían ser tenidos en cuenta en el diseño de entornos pedagógicos de características semejantes al que se describe en este estudio.

In this paper we describe how to make a very simple stereoscope for observation of molecular models produced by several recent computer programmes. With this instrument, constructed essentially with four mirrors, the chemist can visualize molecular models in three dimensions directly from the personal computer monitor screen.

El objetivo de esta investigación es comprobar la utilidad de las técnicas actuales de reconocimiento facial a través de la visión por computador en entornos museísticos. Para alcanzar este fin, he seguido las estrategias de diseño y creación para crear una aplicación que me permita posteriormente realizar una serie de experimentos, los cuales me proporcionarán los datos necesarios con los que evaluar la funcionalidad de estas técnicas existentes en obras de arte, en mi caso concretamente, sobre cuadros.

This paper aims to discuss and reflect about the use of computers in the teaching of Quantum Chemistry. A course on Computational Quantum Chemistry concentrating on Medicinal Chemistry projects was developed for undergraduate and graduate students. The results showed that students got more motivated and involved when there is an articulation between theory and practice. This work presents an alternative way to teach Theoretical Chemistry using projects.

Methyl 6-O-allyl-2,3-di-O-benzyl-4-deoxy-4-(2 -iodobenzoylamine)-alpha-D-glucopyranoside was synthesized in nine conventional steps from methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside. Its Bu3SnH-mediated aryl radical cyclization provided a benzomacrolactam, resulting from 11-endo aryl radical cyclization and the reduced uncyclized product methyl 6-O-allyl-4-benzoylamine-2,3-di-O-benzyl-4-deoxy- alpha-D-glucopyranoside. The structures of the three new products were supported by ¹H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and DEPT, COSY and HMQC experiments.

Els RNA (o ARN, àcids ribonucleics) són biomolècules lineals de cadena senzilla, com un fil, formades per la unió seqüencial d'altres molècules més senzilles, els nucleòtids. Abans de la descoberta del fenòmen de RNAi es creia que el RNA era només un intermediari silenciós de la maquinària genètica, que transportava cegament les instruccions dels gens, en descodificava el missatge i el convertia en proteïnes, procés que es coneix amb el nom de flux d'informació genètica (del gen, que emmagatzema la informació i és format per ADN, a les proteïnes, que fan la feina especificada pel gen) [...].

The development of new tools for chemoinformatics, allied to the use of different algorithms and computer programmes for structure elucidation of organic compounds, is growing fast worldwide. Massive efforts in research and development are currently being pursued both by academia and the so-called chemistry software development companies. The demystification of this environment provoked by the availability of software packages and a vast array of publications exert a positive impact on chemistry. In this work, an overview concerning the more classical approaches as well as new strategies on computer-based tools for structure elucidation of organic compounds is presented. Historical background is also taken into account since these techniques began to develop around four decades ago. Attention will be paid to companies which develop, distribute or commercialize software as well as web-based and open access tools which are currently available to chemists.

This review presents natural, semi-synthetic and synthetic bioactive macrolactams and their structure-activity relationships when available. For macrolactams in clinical use the advantages and disadvantages in relation to other drugs are presented, and for synthetic macrolactams the method used in the cyclization is showed. Regarding macrocyclic synthesis by the tri-n-butyltin hydride-mediated radicalar carbocyclization reaction the precursor, the reaction conditions, products and yields, mechanism and cyclization mode are discussed.

This article describes a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) experience that taught organophosphorus pesticides chemistry, its human health effects and acetylcholinesterase assay to secondary students. The teaching process was based on a real intoxication case and ended with students' activities report presentation. The apparent lack of teacher reference and inexistence of a curriculum based on a strict textbook in which PBL is based on leads inexperienced students to insecurity and the idea that teachers are not doing there jobs. One way to minimize this situation is to use real cases in other to interest students as stakeholders of central problem solution.

The aim of this work was to verify the ability of enzymatic crude extract from dormant castor bean seeds to yield concentrated fatty acids by hydrolysis of polyunsaturated vegetable oils such as corn and sunflower. The enzymatic extract exhibited higher activity towards corn oil, which was selected for further studies to determine optimum hydrolysis conditions by factorial design. Maximum hydrolysis percentage (≈84%) was reached at 60% wt. oil:buffer acetate 100 mM pH 4.5, 33 ºC and 5.0% wt. of crude extract after 70 min of reaction. These results suggest that the use of low-cost lipase from castor bean seeds has potential for oil hydrolysis.

Numerous functional biomolecules are associated with metals, i.e. the metallobiomolecules; more specifically, some are dependent on transition metals required for several crucial biological roles. Nevertheless, their names can lead to ambiguous interpretations concerning the properties and performances of this group of biological molecules. Their etymology may be useful by providing a more perceptive insight into their features. However, etymology can lead to incongruous conclusions, requiring an especially careful approach to prevent errors. Examples illustrating these subjects shall be examined.

In the past few years, photoredox catalysis has become a powerful tool in the field of organic synthesis. Using this efficient method, it is possible to excite organic compounds from visible light and attain alternative mechanistic pathways for the formation of chemical bonds, a result which is not obtainable by classical methods. The rapid growth of work in the area of photoredox catalysis is due to its low cost, broad chemical utility protocols, and, especially, its relevancy from the green and sustainable chemistry viewpoints. Thus, this study proposes a brief theoretical discussion of and highlights recent advances in visible-light-induced photoredox catalysis through the analysis of catalytic cycles and intermediates.

In light of the theory of relationship with know of Bernard Charlot, aiming to understand the unique stories of the subject through a positive lecture, i.e., understanding the reality and the way the subjects read and interpret the world, this article attempts identify how higher education students solve an investigative case and learn the scientific knowledge using this theory. For this, we used narrative as a discourse genre to collect the data of 34 students who participated in the small group activities. After content analysis, the results showed that all groups of students solve the case in a similar way and in three stages, prevailing relations with know with the world, with others and with yourself. However, even if the resolution is similar, chemical learning differs between different groups and differs between the scientific content present in the case. From these results it is possible to identify the effectiveness of learning depends on the epistemic and identity relationships with know of each subject (relationship with yourself) because to learn the student must enter into an intellectual activity (investigative case), stay on it and develop the relationships with known necessary to master the normativity (chemical language).
