A criterion for local interconvertibility between all-tripartite Gaussian states

We arrive at a necessary and sufficient criterion that can be readily used for interconvertibility between general, all-tripartite Gaussian states under local quantum operation. The derivation involves a systematic reduction that converts the original complex conditions in high-dimensional, 6n x 6n matrix space eventually into 2 x 2 matrix problems.

Conditions for the local manipulation of all bipartite Gaussian states

We provide a general, necessary, and sufficient condition for the possibility of transforming a mixed bipartite Gaussian state with arbitrarily many modes to another one under arbitrary local Gaussian channels, which do not include classical communication. Moreover, by means of this condition we present a necessary criterion that can be used to check the possibility of a state transformation between two mixed Gaussian states. At the same time, we prove that our criterion can be reduced to the Eisert-Plenio criterion when the mode number is chosen as 1 per side.

A geometrical model of GaN morphology in initial growth stage

Based on morphology observed by atomic force microscopy, a geometrical model was proposed in order to explain the statistical results obtained from morphology observation on GaN in initial growth stage. Four parameters were introduced to describe the morphology characteristics in this model. Least-square fitting of height distribution was performed. The height distribution derived from the model agreed well with that obtained from experimental records. It was also found that the model should be further advanced to understand the growth of GaN in initial growth stage. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science BY. All rights reserved.

All-optical clock recovery using a ridge width varied two-section partly gain-coupled DFB self-pulsation laser

A 1.55 mu m InGaAsP-InP partly gain-coupled two-section DFB self-pulsation laser (SPL) with a varied ridge width has been fabricated. The laser produces self-pulsations with a frequency tuning range of more than 135 GHz. All-optical clock recovery from 40 Gb/s degraded data streams has been demonstrated. Successful lockings of the device at frequencies of 30 GHz, 40 GHz, 50 GHz, and 60 GHz to a 10 GHz sidemode injection are also conducted, which demonstrates the capability of the device for all-optical clock recovery at different frequencies. Eye-safe, high-energy, single-mode all-fiber laser with widely tunable repetition rate

We present a novel high-energy, single-mode, all-fiber-based master-oscillator-power-amplifier (MOPA) laser system operating in the C-band with 3.3-ns pulses and a very widely tunable repetition rate, ranging from 30 kHz to 50 MHz. The laser with a maximum pulse energy of 25 mu J and a repetition rate of 30 kHz is obtained at, a wavelength of 1548 nm by using a double-clad, single-mode, Er:Yb co-doped fiber power amplifier.

SOA-based polarity-preserving all-optical wavelength conversion at 80Gbit/s: Wide conversion range, well dynamic characteristics and polarization insensitive

This letter presents the effective design of a tunable 80 Gbit/s wavelength converter with a simple configuration consisting of a single semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and an optical bandpass filter (OBPF). Based on both cross-gain and cross-phase modulation in SOA, the polarity-preserved, ultrafast wavelength conversion is achieved by appropriately filtering the blue-chirped spectral component of a probe light. Moreover, the experiments are carried out to investigate into the wavelength tunability and the maximum tuning range of the designed wavelength converter. Our results show that a wide wavelength conversion range of nearly 35 nm is achieved with 21-nm downconversion and 14-nm upconversion, which is substantially limited by the operation wavelength ranges of a tunable OBPF and a tunable continuous-wave laser in our experiment. Genetic analysis of all-fish growth hormone gene transferred carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) and its F-1 generation

Recombinant "all-fish" growth hormone gene (GH) was microinjected Into the fertilized eggs of carp. A comparison between the growth traits of transgenics and non-transgenics was carried out, and the transgenic individuals with significant "fast-growing" effect were successfully gained. A comparison on the reproductivities was also given out between the transgenics and their non-transgenic siblings, and showed that the reproductive capacity of transgenics was substantially equivalent to those of the non-transgenics. On the other hand, the genetic separation and the characteristic distribution of the F-1 generation were genetically analyzed, which gave solid evidence for the hypothesis that 2-3 chromosomes are integrated with transgene. In addition, the distinct biological effects for multisite-integrated transgenes were further discussed. The present study opens a door for the breeding of "fast-growing" transgenic fish.
