In this paper, a new methodology for predicting fluid free surface shape using Model Order Reduction (MOR) is presented. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition combined with a linear interpolation procedure for its coefficient is applied to a problem involving bubble dynamics near to a free surface. A model is developed to accurately and efficiently capture the variation of the free surface shape with different bubble parameters. In addition, a systematic approach is developed within the MOR framework to find the best initial locations and pressures for a set of bubbles beneath the quiescent free surface such that the resultant free surface attained is close to a desired shape. Predictions of the free surface in two-dimensions and three-dimensions are presented.

Functional Data Analysis (FDA) deals with samples where a whole function is observed for each individual. A particular case of FDA is when the observed functions are density functions, that are also an example of infinite dimensional compositional data. In this work we compare several methods for dimensionality reduction for this particular type of data: functional principal components analysis (PCA) with or without a previous data transformation and multidimensional scaling (MDS) for diferent inter-densities distances, one of them taking into account the compositional nature of density functions. The difeerent methods are applied to both artificial and real data (households income distributions)

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks have been adopted as a near-future solution for the broadband Internet. In previous work we proposed a new architecture, named enhanced grooming (G+), that extends the capabilities of traditional optical routes (lightpaths). In this paper, we compare the operational expenditures incurred by routing a set of demands using lightpaths with that of lighttours. The comparison is done by solving an integer linear programming (ILP) problem based on a path formulation. Results show that, under the assumption of single-hop routing, almost 15% of the operational cost can be reduced with our architecture. In multi-hop routing the operation cost is reduced in 7.1% and at the same time the ratio of operational cost to number of optical-electro-optical conversions is reduced for our architecture. This means that ISPs could provide the same satisfaction in terms of delay to the end-user with a lower investment in the network architecture

The objective of traffic engineering is to optimize network resource utilization. Although several works have been published about minimizing network resource utilization, few works have focused on LSR (label switched router) label space. This paper proposes an algorithm that takes advantage of the MPLS label stack features in order to reduce the number of labels used in LSPs. Some tunnelling methods and their MPLS implementation drawbacks are also discussed. The described algorithm sets up NHLFE (next hop label forwarding entry) tables in each LSR, creating asymmetric tunnels when possible. Experimental results show that the described algorithm achieves a great reduction factor in the label space. The presented works apply for both types of connections: P2MP (point-to-multipoint) and P2P (point-to-point)

Traffic Engineering objective is to optimize network resource utilization. Although several works have been published about minimizing network resource utilization in MPLS networks, few of them have been focused in LSR label space reduction. This letter studies Asymmetric Merged Tunneling (AMT) as a new method for reducing the label space in MPLS network. The proposed method may be regarded as a combination of label merging (proposed in the MPLS architecture) and asymmetric tunneling (proposed recently in our previous works). Finally, simulation results are performed by comparing AMT with both ancestors. They show a great improvement in the label space reduction factor

Most network operators have considered reducing LSR label spaces (number of labels used) as a way of simplifying management of underlaying virtual private networks (VPNs) and therefore reducing operational expenditure (OPEX). The IETF outlined the label merging feature in MPLS-allowing the configuration of multipoint-to-point connections (MP2P)-as a means of reducing label space in LSRs. We found two main drawbacks in this label space reduction a)it should be separately applied to a set of LSPs with the same egress LSR-which decreases the options for better reductions, and b)LSRs close to the edge of the network experience a greater label space reduction than those close to the core. The later implies that MP2P connections reduce the number of labels asymmetrically

Pocos estudios han evaluado el tratamiento de las fracturas desplazadas de cuello femoral en pacientes menores de 65 años de edad, y no han sido claramente definidos los factores de riesgo para necrosis avascular o no-unión dentro de este rango de edad. Para determinar los factores asociados a la necrosis avascular de la cabeza femoral (AVN) y no-unión en pacientes menores de 65 años de edad con fracturas desplazadas del cuello femoral tratados con reducción y fijación interna, se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de 29 fracturas desplazadas del cuello femoral en 29 pacientes consecutivos tratados en una sola institución. La influencia de la edad, la energía del trauma, tipo de reducción, y el tiempo entre la fractura y el tratamiento en desarrollo de la AVN y no-unión fueron evaluados. Los pacientes que desarrollaron NAV fueron significativamente mayores y sufrieron un trauma de más baja energía que en los casos sin AVN. Ninguna variable fue asociada con la no-unión. La regresión logística determinó que sólo la edad se asoció de forma independiente a NAV. La edad es un buen predictor para el desarrollo de NAV, con un C-estadístico de 0.861, y un mejor corte-determinado en 53,5 años. Conclusión: Los pacientes de entre 53,5 y 65 años presentan un riesgo más alto de NAV. La artroplastia primaria se debe considerar en este subgrupo.

Dadas las relaciones de cooperación internacional que presentan las Repúblicas de Colombia y Corea que se evidencia en los fuertes vínculos comerciales existentes entre las dos naciones y aún más en la negociación de un TLC desde el 2009 y gracias al buen clima económico que presenta en la actualidad Colombia, surge este proyecto de investigación con el objetivo de analizar las relaciones bilaterales y contribuir al desarrollo de la economía emergente que presenta el país. Para ello, en primera instancia se realiza un proceso de contextualización desde aspectos demográficos hasta históricos. En seguida y a manera descriptiva, se expone los diversos bienes y servicios que se intercambian entre las dos naciones con el fin de identificar oportunidades que se podrían ofrecer y afectar una vez se firme el tratado. Finalmente, se evalúa y analiza cada uno de los sectores emergentes de Colombia con el objeto de motivar la inversión en el país para generar de tal manera, un incremento en la producción y por ende incrementos en la demanda agregada, logrando abrir las puertas de la economía colombiana a un socio estratégico como lo es la República de Corea y contribuir poco a poco a la reducción de la balanza comercial deficitaria que se presenta en la actualidad entre los dos países. El Lago Chad ha sido durante varias décadas, una fuente de supervivencia económica para millones de personas que habitan en cuatro Estados a saber; Nigeria, Níger, Chad y Camerún. No obstante, el cambio climático, el aumento acelerado de la población, la explotación insostenible y la mala regulación de los Estados ribereños han sido los principales factores que han dado lugar, en la última década, a la dramática reducción del nivel del Lago Chad. Teniendo en cuenta que los Estados aledaños al Lago, se encuentran inmersos en una Interdependencia Compleja, este nuevo contexto, ha tenido un impacto directo en la región, debido a que ha agravado otras variables económicas, sociales, ambientales y políticas, dejando un ambiente de inseguridad regional. De esta manera, la reducción de la Cuenca del Lago Chad representa una amenaza compartida que vincula estrechamente a Nigeria, Níger, Chad y Camerún, lo que permite vislumbrar la existencia de un Subcomplejo de Seguridad Regional.
