Managed fund attributes and performance

This cross-sectional study goes beyond the traditional performance evaluation of managed funds and extends the literature to consider fund-specific attributes that influence performance.. Using a sample of 168 Australian open-ended equity funds, the risk adjusted performance is measured using three alternative evaluation techniques. We found funds with higher management fees and senior in age have contributed to the underperformance. Along with the traditional attributes identified by the literature. market capitalisation of the security held by the fund is included as a unique attribute with significant results indicating that funds targeting small capitalisation companies display superior performance.

Error analysis in translation : a case study of the Turkish-English language pair

Examines translation errors made by Turkish stream students from a three-year, full-time interpreting and translating degree course. Attempts to find out how students progress towards the curriculum objectives and how well they translate as their studies progress. The significance of errors in translation and teaching translation skills are also discussed.

Author's intent and translation : some Runyankore culture-bound expressions

This thesis explores the movement of the author's intent in the process of translating expressions (originally oral) deemed to be culture-reflecting. The author's intent can be freed from the bondage thrust upon a text through particularities of culture, linguistics and genre in the process of translation. These elements constitute the toolkit used by the author to deliver his/her intent. A translation owes it's existance to the original text with it's intent and this element should be preserved through the translator's assumption of authorial powers.

Image to text translation by multi-label classification

This paper presents an image to text translation platform consisting of image segmentation, region features extraction, region blobs clustering, and translation components. A multi-label learning method is suggested for realizing the translation component. Empirical studies show that the predictive performance of the translation component is better than its counterparts when employed a dual-random ensemble multi-label classification algorithm.
