Acceptance of earphones in children 12- to 24-months of age during visual reinforcement audiometry

Insert and circumaural earphones were used during visual reinforcement audiometry with children 12-to 24-months of age. Acceptance of earphones was determined by the number of ear specific thresholds obtained and by audiologist subjective ratings. Results indicate that children in this age range accept both types of earphones; however, significantly more ear specific thresholds were obtained using insert earphones compared to circumaural.

Contaminación narrativa. Las estéticas de Jorge Icaza y Pablo Palacio bajo el signo de lo barroco y lo cinematográfico

Las narrativas de Jorge Icaza y Pablo Palacio han sido abordadas tradicionalmente por la crítica como propuestas estéticas contrarias. No se han tomado en cuenta las significativas coincidencias de sus literaturas en relación con la representación artística de la realidad. Tanto la narrativa icaciana como la palaciana coinciden en la recreación del tiempo y el espacio modernos, y, sobre todo, en la incorporación en sus textos de otros lenguajes. Icaza se apoya en el lenguaje teatral en distintos niveles. La utilización de herramientas del discurso dramático, la concepción de la realidad como una gran farsa social y la representación del mundo a partir de ciertos elementos de una estética barroca, son características fundamentales que revelan una trayectoria particularmente intensa de la obra del escritor quiteño. Palacio construye, a su vez, su narrativa a partir de la incorporación irónica de los lenguajes filosófico, científico, periodístico, político, cinematográfico y literario, con el objetivo de revelar los mecanismos de la construcción discursiva de la literatura y la realidad. La literatura palaciana se descubre, por lo demás, marcada, como gran parte del arte moderno, por el lenguaje cinematográfico, el cual presenta muchas posibilidades para la recreación artística de un momento histórico complejo y un espacio social en acelerada reconfiguración.
