In this paper, some results on visible luminescence performed on Yb3+-doped gadolinium gallium garnets under 165 and 940 nm excitation were presented. The upconversion luminescence was ascribed to Yb3+ cooperative luminescence and the presence of rare earth impurity ions. The gain cross-sections of Yb:GGG crystal as a function of excited-state population fraction P were studied. Emission spectra under 165 nm at 20 K showed there was no charge transfer luminescence in Yb:GGG. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Spectroscopic properties of (Y0.9-xLa0.1Ybx)(2)O-3 transparent ceramic were studied. Two main absorption peaks of the specimen are centered at 940 and 970 nm, which are suitable for InGaAs laser diode pumping. The main emission peaks were located at 1032 and 1075 nm with larger emission cross-section and longer fluorescence lifetime than those of Yb:Y2O3. These properties of (Y0.9-xLa0.1Ybx)(2)O-3 transparent ceramic are favorable to achieve high efficiency and high power laser output. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Yb:Y3Al5O12 (Yb:YAG) single crystals with Yb doping concentration 0.5 at.%, 5 at.%, 15 at.%, 25 at.%, 50 at.%, 100 at.% and Yb:YAlO3 (Yb:YAP) single crystals with Yb doping concentration 0.5 at.%, 5 at.%, 15 at.%, 30 at.% were grown by the Czochralski process. The fluorescence spectra of these crystals and the effects of self-absorption on the shape of the fluorescence spectra were studied. Through comparing the fluorescence spectra of Yb:YAG and Yb:YAP, all results indicate that the effects of self-absorption on the fluorescence spectra of Yb:YAP are remarkably stronger than that of Yb:YAG at the same Yb concentration. Nanocrystalline Zn0.95-xNi0.05AlxO (x = 0.01, 0.02, 0.05 and 0.10) diluted magnetic semiconductors have been synthesized by an autocombustion method. X-ray absorption spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectrometry and Ni 2p core-level photoemission spectroscopy analyses revealed that some of the nickel ions were substituted for Zn2+ into the ZnO matrix while others gave birth to NiO nanoclusters embedded in the ZnO particles. The Zn0.95Ni0.05O sample showed no enhancement of room-temperature ferromagnetism after Al doping. (C) 2007 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

本文研究了红外飞秒激光照射下Ce^3+ 掺杂的YAP和LSO两种闪烁晶体的上转换发光现象.实验发现在飞秒激光泵浦下,这两种晶体的荧光均来自于Ce^3+离子的5d-4f跃迁.荧光强度与泵浦光功率之间的依赖关系揭示了Ce^3+:YAP和Ce^3+:LSO晶体的上转换过程皆由三光子吸收过程所主导.分析表明,Ce^3+:YAP和Ce^3+:LSO晶体中的三光子吸收是三光子同时吸收.

采用提拉法生长了掺Ce、掺Yb和掺Mn的铝酸钇(YAlO3,YAP)晶体,晶体均完整透明,无肉眼可见的气泡、散射和包裹物等宏观缺陷。通过化学腐蚀和同步辐射白光形貌实验检测了YAP晶体中的生长小面缺陷。结果表明:晶体生长过程中,由于凸向熔体的固-液界面,造成了小面生长现象。沿[101]方向生长的YAP晶体中出现的小面为(102),(201),(121)和(121)奇异面。X射线摇摆曲线表征的结果表明:生长小面的存在严重破坏了晶体的微观结构完整性和均匀性,并导致了小角度晶界缺陷的产生。

ZnO crystals with dimensions of 30 x 38 x 8 turn 3 have been grown by the hydrothermal method using a mixed solution of KOH, LiOH and H2O2. The growing rates for +c(0001) and -c(000 (1) over bar) were 0.17 and 0.09 mm/day, respectively. The crystal color was very light green for +c sector and dark brown for -c sector. For the +c sector, the resistivity at room temperature was 80 0 cm, the carrier concentration was about 10(4)/cm(3), and the mobility was about 100 cm(2)/Vs. The full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of double axis X-ray rocking curve for the polished Zn face cut from +c sector was 45 arcsec. The photoluminescence (PL) spectrum and the absorption spectrum of +c part of the crystals at room temperature were also reported and discussed in this paper. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. The up-conversion luminescence of Yb3+-doped yttriurn lanthanum oxide transparent ceramic was investigated. It was ascribed to cooperative luminescence originated from the coupled states of the Yb3+ ion pairs. The proper doping of La2O3 can remove the cooperative luminescence of Yb3+ ion. But excessive La2O3 (at least 10 at.%) the cooperative up-conversion of Yb3+:Y2O3 is obtained again, and the intensity of up-conversion luminescence strengthens with the increase of La2O3 content. We report on room temperature laser actions of a novel thulium-doped crystal Tm center dot Lu2SiO5 (LSO) under diode pumping. An optical optical conversion efficiency of 12% and a slope efficiency of 21% were obtained with the maximum continuous wave (CW) output power of 0.67 W. The emission wavelengths of Tm LSO laser were centered at 2058.4 nm with bandwidth of similar to 13.6 nm.

Transparent 1 at% Nd3+:Y1.9La0.1O3 ceramics were fabricated with nanopowders prepared by carbonate coprecipitation method. The powder compacts were sintered in H-2 atmosphere at 1550 degrees C for 30 h. The Nd3+:Y1.9La0.1O3 ceramics display uniform grains of about 50 mu m and high transparency. The highest transmittance of the ceramics reaches 67%. The strongest absorption peak is in the wavelength of 820 nm with absorption cross section of 2.48 x 10(-20) cm(2). The absorption is still high at LD wavelength 806 nm with absorption cross section of 1.78 x 10(-20) cm(2) and broad full width at half maximum (FWHM) of about 6.3 nm. The strongest emission peak was centered at 1078 nm with large stimulated emission cross section of 9.63 x 10(-20) cm(2) and broad FWHM of about 7.8 nm. The broad absorption and emission bandwidth of Nd3+:y(1.9)La(0.1)O(3) transparent ceramics are favorable to achieve the miniaturized LD pumping apparatus and ultrashort modelocked pulse laser output, respectively. Ce3+:( Lu0.7Y0.25La0.05)(2)O-3 transparent ceramics were fabricated with nanopowders and sintered in H-2 atmosphere. The spectral properties of Ce3+:( Lu0.7Y0.25La0.05)(2)O-3 transparent ceramics were investigated and the luminescence of Ce3+ in the solid solution of Lu2O3, Y2O3 and La2O3 has been found. The ceramics has high density of 8.10g/cm(3) and short fluorescence lifetimes of 7.15 ns and 26.92 ns. It is expected to be a good fast response high temperature inorganic scintillating materials. alpha-Al2O3:C crystal shows excellent thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) properties but the real role carbon plays in this crystal is still not clearly understood so far. In this work, alpha-Al2O3:C crystal doping with different amounts of carbon were grown by the temperature gradient technique, and TL and OSL properties of as-grown crystals were investigated. Additionally, a mechanism was proposed to explain the role of carbon in forming the TL and OSL properties of alpha-Al2O3:C. TL and OSL intensities of as-grown crystals increase with the increasing amount of carbon doping in the crystal, but no shift is found in the glow peak location at 465 K. As the amount of carbon doping in the crystals decreases, OSL decay rate becomes faster. With the increase in heating rate, the integral TL response of as-grown crystals decreases and glow peak shifts to higher temperatures. TL response decrease rate increases with the increasing amount of carbon doping in the crystals. All the TL and OSL response curves of as-grown crystals show linear-sublinear-saturation characteristic, and OSL dose response exhibits higher sensitivity and wider linear dose range than that of TL. The crystal doping with 5000 ppm carbon shows the best dosimetric properties. Carbon plays the role of a dopant in alpha-Al2O3:C crystal and four-valent carbon anions replace the two-valent anions of oxygen during the crystal growth process, and large amounts of oxygen vacancies were formed, which corresponds to the high absorption coefficient of F and F+ centers in the crystals.

This paper reports that the TM3+:Lu2SiO5 (Tm:LSO) crystal is grown by Czochralski technique. The room-temperature absorption spectra of Tm:LSO crystal are measured on a b-cut sample with 4 at.% thulium. According to the obtained Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters Omega(2)=9.3155 x 10(-20) cm(2), Omega(4)=8.4103 x 10(-20) cm(2), Omega(6)=1.5908 x 10(-20) cm(2), the fluorescence lifetime is calculated to be 2.03 ms for F-3(4) -> H-3(6) transition, and the integrated emission cross section is 5.81 x 10(-18) cm(2). Room-temperature laser action near 2 mu m under diode pumping is experimentally evaluated in Tm:LSO. An optical-optical conversion efficiency of 9.1% and a slope efficiency of 16.2% are obtained with continuous-wave maximum output power of 0.67 W. The emission wavelengths of Tm:LSO laser are centred around 2.06 mu m with spectral bandwidth of similar to 13.6 nm.

The Yb:Y3Al5O12/Y3Al5O12 (Yb:YAG/YAG) composite crystals were prepared by thermal bonding method with different technological parameters. The bonding interface of the composite crystals were observed by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, and atom force microscope. The light scattering experiments for bonding interface of the composite crystals were measured by the laser and transmission spectra. All experiments show that high-quality Yb:YAG/YAG composite crystals without space transition layer and light scattering on the bonding interface can be obtained by thermal bonding method under appropriate technological parameters.

Ytterbium-doped calcium pyroniobate single crystal has been grown for the first time. Spectral properties of Yb: Ca2Nb2O7 were investigated by emission and absorption spectra. Its cooperative luminescence and fluorescence lifetime were also studied. Yb ions in Ca2Nb2O7 showed very broad absorption and emission bandwidth and relatively large absorption and emission cross-sections. Along with other optical properties, this Yb-doped crystal would be a potential self-frequency doubling femtosecond laser gain material. (C) 2007 Published by Elsevier B.V.
