The work aimed to study the development of Tabebuia chrysotricha Standl. seedlings injunction of different substrate and different fertilization solutions. To compose the substrate it was used fibrous and granulated coconut fiber obtaining the following treatments: S1- 100% fibrous, S2- 60% fibrous and 40% granulated, S3- 40% fibrous and 60% granulated and S4- 100% granulated. The basis fertilization was the same for all treatments and the solutions of fertilization varied in order to obtain solutions with the following electric conductivities: EC1- 1.06 dS m(-1), EC2- 2.12 dS m(-1), EC3- 3.2 dS m(-1) and EC4- 4.25 dS m(-1). The propagative material was sowed directly in plastic containers (120mL) with the respective substrates. The fertilization was received through sub irrigation once a week, until the seedlings reached 20cm of height approximately. The chemical analyses of the substrate (EC and pH), through aqueous extraction method 1:1.5 (1 substrate: 1.5 deionized water), the analyses of aerial part height, stein diameter and pairs true leaves number, as well as the weight of total dry, matter, were accomplished each 15 days. In almost every analysis, the substrate with granulated coconut fiber, as well as the smallest EC (1.06 e 2.12 dS m(-1)) of fertilization solutions, formed seedlings with higher averages, indicating faster growth. In the conditions of this experiment, the production of T. chrysotricha seedlings was better in granulated coconut fiber substrate and fertilizer solutions with EC of 1.06 dS m(-1), appreciating the estimated characteristics.

The work aimed to study the formation of Tabebuia chrysotricha Standl. seedlings in function of four substrates, varying the covering fertilization solutions. To compose the substrate it was used fibrous and granulated coconut fiber obtaining the following treatments: 100% fibrous (100% F), 60% fibrous + 40% granulated (60% F+40% G), 40% fibrous + 60% granulated (40% F+60% G) and 100% granulated (100% G). The basis fertilization was the same for all treatments and the solutions of covering fertilization varied in order to obtain complete solutions with electric conductivities of 1.06 dS m(-1), 2.12 dS m(-1), 3.2 dS m(-1) and 4.25 dS m(-1). The propagative material was sowed directly in plastic containers (120mL) with the respective substrates. The fertilization was received through sub-irrigation once a week, respecting the treatments of fertilizations. Seedlings produced in 100%G had been taller and higher than the others. The chemical analyses of aerial part were obtained when the seedlings were ready for expedition (height of 20 cm). The seedlings production in substrate 100% F and 60% F+40% G allowed them to have higher N, S, B, Mn and Zn concentrations in the aerial part. The production of T chrysotricha seedlings is recommended in granulated coconut fiber substrate and fertilizer solutions with EC of 1.06 dS m(-1)

The ionospheric effect is one of the major errors in GPS data processing over long baselines. As a dispersive medium, it is possible to compute its influence on the GPS signal with the ionosphere-free linear combination of L1 and L2 observables, requiring dual-frequency receivers. In the case of single-frequency receivers, ionospheric effects are either neglected or reduced by using a model. In this paper, an alternative for single-frequency users is proposed. It involves multiresolution analysis (MRA) using a wavelet analysis of the double-difference observations to remove the short- and medium-scale ionosphere variations and disturbances, as well as some minor tropospheric effects. Experiments were carried out over three baseline lengths from 50 to 450 km, and the results provided by the proposed method were better than those from dual-frequency receivers. The horizontal root mean square was of about 0.28 m (1 sigma).

Persistent photoconductivity (PPC) in vanadyl phthalocyanine (VOPc) organic light-emitting diodes was investigated using photoconductive time response, photocurrent-voltage characteristics and charge extraction in linearly increasing voltage (CELIV) measurements. The experiments were performed in phase 1 (amorphous) and in phase 2 (crystalline) samples obtained by the physical vapour deposition (PVD) technique over ITO/glass electrodes with an Al covering electrode. The results indicated a photoconductivity with a long decay time in phase 1 VOPc described by a stretched exponential relaxation. The device showed a rectifying behaviour and the mobility of holes was measured by CELIV, following a dispersive model. In crystalline samples the PPC effect was not observed and the dominant mechanism of transport of holes was hopping in a Gaussian density of states.

This work reports on the study of the nanophosphor. Y2O2S:Er(2%),Yb(1%) obtained from polymeric resin to be evaluated as fluorescent label with Suitable features to conjugate with bio-molecules for bioassay up-converting phosphor technology (UPT) application A conjugation protocol between bovine serum albumin (BSA) and the aminofunctionalized nanophosphor containing or not spherical silica was established UV-vis results indicated an effective conjugation between nanophosphor particles and the protein up-conversion measurements under 980 nm excitation performed for samples before and after aminofunctionalization showed that nanophosphor particles luminescence features keep unchanged in all cases All results suggest that the adapted protocol is feasible to provide a nanoparticle-protein effective conjugation preserving nanophosphor optical features The presence of spherical silica can be considered advantageous to increase conjugation efficiency Therefore. the developed procedure is applicable for future conjugations between the chosen nanophosphor and the streptavidin protein chat takes part in the well known self-recognition system avidin-biotin. Background: An upper limb arteriovenous (AV) fistula is the access of choice for haemodialysis (HD). There have been few reports of saphenofemoral AV fistulas (SFAVF) over the last 10-20 years because of previous suggestions of poor patencies and needling difficulties. Here, we describe our clinical experience with SFAVF.Methods: SFAVFs were evaluated using the following variables: immediate results, early and late complications, intraoperative and postoperative complications (up to day 30), efficiency of the fistula after the onset of needling and complications associated to its use. Results: Fifty-six SFAVF fistulas were created in 48 patients. Eight patients had two fistulas: 8 patent (16%), 10 transplanted (20%), 12 deaths (24%), 1 low flow (2%) and 20 thrombosis (39%) (first two months of preparation). One patient had severe hypotension during surgery, which caused thrombosis of the fistula, which was successfully thrombectomised, four thrombosed fistulae were successfully thrombectomised and revised on the first postoperative day. After 59 months of follow-up, primary patency was 44%.Conclusion: SFAVF is an adequate alternative for patients without the possibility for other access in the upper limbs, allowing efficient dialysis with good long-term patency with a low complication rate.

BACKGROUND: Baru (Dipteryx alata Vog.) is a fruit distributed throughout the Brazilian savanna and contains a seed with a high protein content, whose properties have been rarely explored. The purpose of this study was to characterize this protein, especially by isolation and quantifying its fractions and measuring some of its molecular properties.RESULTS: Baru seeds contain 244 g kg(-1) protein on a dry weight basis. Solubility profiles showed a preponderance of globulins. This fraction dominated the seed composition, with 61.7 wt% of the total soluble proteins. Albumins and glutelins accounted for 14 and 3.3 wt%, respectively. SDS-PAGE resolution of albumin and globulin showed main bands with molecular weights of 84 kDa and 64,66 and 73 kDa, respectively. The total protein of the flour and the globulin showed values of in vitro digestibility of 85.59% and 90.54%, relative to casein. Total globulin produced only one chromatographic peak, both on Sepharose CL-6B gel filtration and on DEAE-cellulose ion-exchange columns, eluted at a concentration of 0.12 mol L(-1) NaCl.CONCLUSION: The baru seed had high protein content with large quantities of storage proteins. The chromatographic and solubility profiles indicate the predominance of a fraction with characteristics of a legumin-type protein. (C) 2011 Society of Chemical Industry

Liposomes of soya phosphatidylcholine, cholesterol, and stearylamine (molar ratio 6/3/1) and 0.1% alpha-tocopherol were prepared by the extrusion of multilamellar vesicles through 0.2-mu m polycarbonate membrane. Liposomes were characterized by electron transmission microscopy, and the mean structure diameter was 278 nm. The encapsulation efficiency obtained was 12.73%. The topical anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated in vivo by the cotton pellet granuloma method. We analyzed free piroxicam at 4 mg/kg, piroxicam encapsulated in liposomes added to 1.5% hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) gel at 1.6 mg/kg, and piroxicam encapsulated in liposomes added to HEC gel at 4 mg/kg; the inhibition of inflammation obtained was 21.1%, 32.8%, and 47.4%, respectively. These results showed that the encapsulation of piroxicam produced an increase of topical anti-inflammatory effect, suggesting that the inhibition of inflammation can be obtained with lower drug concentrations.
