Occurrence of Sciadicleithrum mexicanum Kritsky, Vidal-Martinez et Rodríguez-Canul, 1994 (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae) in the Cichlid Cichlasoma urophthalmus from a flooded quarry in Yucatan, Mexico

Cichlids, Cichlasoma urophthalmus, collected in a flooded quarry in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, from January through June 1992, had high levels of infection with the ancyrocephaline Sciadicleithrum mexicanum (Monogena: Dactylogyridade) in all montlhly samples. Neither occurrence nor maturation of the worms eshibited any pronounced monthly fluctuation. The infection rate was found to be sizedependent, greater in longer fish. The worms occurred on primary lamellae of gill filaments of all arches, with lower numbers of parasites attached to the fourth gill arch. Otherwise, there was no significant site preference of worms. Only minor histopathological changes were found at the sites of attachment, and these were restricted to the epithelial cells of the primary lamellae of thegill filaments. The lack of seasonal periodicity in this tropical monogenean is compared to seasonal cycles typical of temperate species.

Les comportements face au VIH/sida des hommes qui ont des relations sexuelles avec des hommes: résultats de Gaysurvey 2007

Gaysurvey est une enquête menée périodiquement en Suisse parmi les hommes qui ont des relations sexuelles avec des hommes (HSH). Elle s'inscrit dans le dispositif de surveillance du VIH, établi par l'Office fédéral de la santé publique, en tant qu'instrument de suivi des comportements face au VIH/sida dans ce groupe-cible. Elle a déjà été réalisée à huit reprises : en 1987, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2007. [...] Elle permet d'établir des tendances temporelles au niveau des pratiques sexuelles et des expositions au risque d'infection par le VIH. Elle permet, en outre, d'approfondir certaines thématiques pertinentes pour le travail de prévention (gestion du risque au sein d'une relation stable, entrée dans la sexualité, etc.). Onchocerciasis in Ecuador: changes in prevalence of ocular lesions in Onchocerca volvulus infected individuals over the period 1980-1990

Trends in prevalence rates of onchocercal ocular lesions were examined over the period 1980 to 1990 using data from two cross-sectional surveys. There was evidence for increasing prevalence of anterior chamber microfilariae, iridocyclitis, optic atrophy, and chorioretinopathy. Large increases in prevalence, in particular, were seen for posterior segment lesions: optic atrophy increased from 2.7% to 6.4% and chorioretinopathy from 8.8% to 35.6%. Greatest increases in these lesions were seen in the Chachi which was attributed to the large increases in prevalence of microfilariae in the anterior chamber particularly in those aged 30 years or greater. The study findings suggest that ocular onchocerciasis is evolving in parallel with the well documented parasitological changes.

Partidos de ámbito no estatal y gobernabilidad multinivel: el caso de España (1977-2008)

Este trabajo se propone contribuir a la discusión conceptual entorno a los PANE para, elaborar una doble clasificación a partir del caso español, basada en los criterios de su presencia territorial y electoral. En conjunto, esta clasificación muestra la creciente relevancia que los PANE han jugado, desde sus inicios, en la gobernabilidad estatal y autonómica Española. Las precisiones conceptuales entorno a los PANE también han permitido mostrar un panorma de la gobernabilidad más complejo de los que hasta el momento tendían a subrayar los estudios electorales. En particular, se llama la atención sobre las peculiares características de la alianza entre PSOE y PSC, cuyas consecuencias tanto para la teoría sobre coaliciones como para la comprensión del funcionamiento del gobierno en España aún no han sido adecuadamente analizadas.

Evolution and recent developments of Spanish wine sector, 1950-2008

Since the 1980s the traditional European winegrowing regions have been carrying out deep changes in response to the onslaught of winegrowers in the New World. In recent years Spanish regions have been foremost in Europe in terms of change in areas turned over to wine production and distribution. This study analyses the main sequences of changes the Spanish wine industry has undergone: the evolution of consumption through the changes in consumer drinking habits; the leading role of exports in international markets; the spread of different types of marketing and business organization; the distribution in large and small sellers, and the main factors that have been involved in the chain of production and in the modernization of the wineries.

First Case of Natural Infection in Pigs: Review of Trypanosoma cruzi Reservoirs in Mexico

An epidemiological research project was performed in the State of Morelos including collection of samples for blood smears and culture, serological tests, and xenodiagnoses from a total of 76 domestic and peridomestic mammals. Two strains of Trypanosoma cruzi were isolated by haemocultures; one from a pig (Sus scrofa), the first case of natural infection reported in Mexico, and the other from a dog (Canis familiaris). Services de migration et évolution de la population étrangère dans les cantons suisses 2002-2008 = Migrationsämter und Entwicklung der ausländischen Bevölkerung in den Kantonen 2002-2008

Cette étude montre que les cantons sont confrontés à une augmentation importante de la population étrangère résidante mais aussi du nombre de frontaliers et ceci surtout depuis 2004. La plupart des services cantonaux de migrations sont sous pressions malgré la simplification des formalités pour les ressortissants de l'UE. L'originalité de cette recherche tient au fait qu'elle aborde, pour la première fois, le thème de la population étrangère sous l'angle des activités administratives générées au niveau des cantons. Il s'agit également de la première évaluation présentant dans le détail l'étendue et la multiplication des tâches dévolues à l'Etat du fait de cette immigration depuis l'entrée en vigueur le premier juin 2002 de l'Accord sur la libre circulation des personnes avec l'UE (ACLP). Diese Studie zeigt, dass die Kantone mit einer starken Zunahme der ausländischen Wohnbevölkerung sowie der Zahl Grenzgänger konfrontiert sind. Vor allem seit 2004 sind die Migrationsämter der Kantone, trotz einer Vereinfachung der Formalitäten für EU Angehörige, unter Druck geraten. Die Besonderheit dieser Studie ist, dass sie zum ersten Mal das Thema der ausländischen Bevölkerung aus dem Blickwinkel der administrativen Tätigkeiten der Kantone betrachtet. Es handelt sich auch um die erste Studie, die im Detail die Mehrbelastung durch neue Aufgaben analysiert, welche der Staat auf Grund der Migration seit Inkrafttreten des Personenfreizügigkeits-abkommens (FZA) im Juni 2002 zu leisten leistet hat.

Purine nucleotide pyrophosphotransferase was purified to apparent homogeneity from a culture filtrate of Streptomyces morookaensis. It is a monomeric protein with a molecular weight of 24 000-25 000, and its isoelectric point is 6.9. The enzyme synthesizes purine nucleoside 5'-phosphate (mono, di, or tri) 3'-diphosphates such as pppApp, ppApp, pApp, pppGpp, ppGpp and pppIpp by transferring a pyrophosphoryl group from the 5'-position of ATP, dATP and ppApp to the 3'-position of purine nucleotides. The purified enzyme catalysed the formation of 435 mumol of pppApp and 620 mumol of pppGpp from ATP and GTP per min mg protein under the standard conditions. The enzyme requires absolutely a divalent cation for activity, and optimum pH for the enzyme activity lay above 10 for Mg2+, for Co2+ and Zn2+ from 9 to 9.5, and for Fe2+ from 7.5 to 8. The following Michaelis constants were determined: AMP, 2.78 mM; ADP, 3.23 mM; GMP, 0.89 mM; GDP, 0.46 mM and GTP, 1.54 mM, in the case of ATP donor. The enzyme is inhibited by guanine, guanosine, dGDP, dGTP, N-bromosuccinimide, iodacetate, sodium borate and mercuric acetate.

Age effects, unobserved characteristics and hedonic price indexes: The Spanish car market in the 1990's

This paper computes and compares alternative quality-adjusted price indexes for new cars in Spain in the period 1990-2000. The proposed hedonic approach simultaneously controls for time-invariant unobserved product effects and time-variant unobserved quality changes, that are assumed to be captured by model age effects. The results show that the non-adjusted price index largely overstates the increase in the cost of living induced by changes in car prices and that previous evidence for this market have not measured the real extent of that bias, probably due to the omission of controls for unobservables. It is also shown that omitting age effects can also lead to misleading conclusions. The estimated price indexes give also some insights on what could have been the determinants of price evolution in the Spanish car market.
