Charmed (and bottom) hypernuclei are studied in the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. This completes systematic studies of charmed (Lambda(c)(+), Sigma(c), Xi(c)), and Lambda(b) hypernuclei in the QMC model. Effects of the Pauli blocking due to the underlying quark structure of baryons, and the Sigma(c)N-Lambda(c)N channel coupling are phenomenologically taken into account at the hadronic level in the same way as those included for strange hypernuclei. Our results suggest that the Sigma(c)(++) and Xi(c)(+) hypernuclei are very unlikely to be formed. while the Lambda(c)(+), Xi(c)(0) and Lambda(b) hypernuclei are quite likely to be formed. For the Sigma(c)(+) hypernuclei, the formation probability is non-zero, though small. A detailed analysis is also made about the phenomenologically introduced Pauli blocking and channel coupling effects for the Sigma(c)(0) hypernuclei.

We reinvestigate the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) thermodynamics of a weakly interacting dilute Bose gas under the action of a trap using a semi-classical two-fluid mean-field model in order to find the domain of applicability of the model. Such a model is expected to break down once the condition of diluteness and weak interaction is violated. We find that this breakdown happens for values of coupling and density near the present experimental scenario of BEG. With the increase of the interaction coupling and density the model may lead to unphysical results for thermodynamic observables. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier B.V. B.V, All rights reserved.

In reply to the criticism made by Mielke in the preceding Comment on our recent paper, we once again explicitly demonstrate the inconsistency of the coupling of a Dirac field to gravitation in the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. Moreover, we stress that the mentioned inconsistency is generic for all sources with spin and is by no means restricted to the Dirac field. In this sense the SL(4,R)-covariant generalization of the spinor fields in the teleparallel gravity theory is irrelevant to the inconsistency problem.

Massless scalar and vector fields are coupled to the Lyra geometry by means of the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau (DKP) theory. Using the Schwinger variational principle, the equations of motion, conservation laws and gauge symmetry are implemented. We find that the scalar field couples to the anholonomic part of the torsion tensor, and the gauge symmetry of the electromagnetic field does not break by the coupling with torsion.

Models with interacting dark energy can alleviate the cosmic coincidence problem by allowing dark matter and dark energy to evolve in a similar fashion. At a fundamental level, these models are specified by choosing a functional form for the scalar potential and for the interaction term. However, in order to compare to observational data it is usually more convenient to use parametrizations of the dark energy equation of state and the evolution of the dark matter energy density. Once the relevant parameters are fitted, it is important to obtain the shape of the fundamental functions. In this paper I show how to reconstruct the scalar potential and the scalar interaction with dark matter from general parametrizations. I give a few examples and show that it is possible for the effective equation of state for the scalar field to cross the phantom barrier when interactions are allowed. I analyze the uncertainties in the reconstructed potential arising from foreseen errors in the estimation of fit parameters and point out that a Yukawa-like linear interaction results from a simple parametrization of the coupling.

The propagation of a free scalar field phi with mass m in a curved background is generally described by the equation (g(munu) delmudelnu + m(2) + xiR)phi = 0. There exist some arguments in the literature that seem to favor the conformal coupling to the detriment of the minimal one. However, the majority of these claims axe inconclusive. Here we show that the exact Foldy Wouthuysen transformation for spin-0 particle coupled to a wide class of static spacetime metrics exists independently of the value of. Nevertheless, if the coupling is of the conformal type, the gravitational Darwin-like term has an uncomplicated structure and it is proportional to the corresponding term in the fermionic case. In addition, an independent computation of this term, which has its origin in the zitterbewegung fluctuation of the boson's position with the mean square <(deltar)(2)> approximate to 1/m(2), gives a result that coincides with that obtained using the aforementioned exact transformation with xi = 1/6.

We demonstrate the formation of bright solitons in coupled self-defocusing nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation supported by attractive coupling. As an application we use a time-dependent dynamical mean-field model to study the formation of stable bright solitons in two-component repulsive Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) supported by interspecies attraction in a quasi one-dimensional geometry. When all interactions are repulsive, there cannot be bright solitons. However, bright solitons can be formed in two-component repulsive BECs for a sufficiently attractive interspecies interaction, which induces an attractive effective interaction among bosons of same type. In this talk we report on recent progress in implementing exchange terms in the quark-meson coupling model. Exchange effects are related to the Pauli exclusion principle. We discuss exchange effects at the nucleon level and at the quark level. We also address the incorporation of chiral symmetry and Delta degrees of freedom in the model.

We derive the torsion constraints and show the consistency of equations of motion of four-dimensional Type II supergravity in superspace. with Type II sigma model. This is achieved by coupling the four-dimensional compactified Type II Berkovits' superstring to an N = 2 curved background and requiring that the sigma-model has superconformal invariance at tree-level. We compute this in a manifestly 4D N = 2 supersymmetric way. The constraints break the target conformal and SU(2) invariances and the dilaton will be a conformal, SU(2) x U(1) compensator. For Type II superstring in four dimensions, worldsheet supersymmetry requires two different compensators. One type is described by chiral and anti-chiral superfields. This compensator can be identified with a vector multiplet. The other Type II compensator is described by twist-chiral and twist-anti-chiral superfields and can be identified with a tensor hypermultiplet. Also, the superconformal invariance at tree-level selects a particular gauge, where the matter is fixed, but not the compensators. After imposing the reality conditions, we show that the Type II sigma model at tree-level is consistent with the equations of motion for Type II supergravity in the string gauge. The measurability of the non-minimal coupling is discussed by considering the correction to the Newtonian static potential in the semiclassical approach. The coefficient of the gravitational Darwin term (GDT) gets redefined by the non-minimal torsion scalar couplings. Based on a similar analysis of the GDT in the effective field theory approach to non-minimal scalar, we conclude that for reasonable values of the couplings the correction is very small.

The Gamow-Teller resonance in Pb-208 is discussed in the context of a self-consistent RPA, based on the relativistic mean field theory. We inquire on the possibility of substituting the phenomenological Landau-Migdal force by a microscopic nucleon-nucleon interaction, generated from the rho-nucleon tensor coupling. The effect of this coupling turns out to be very small when the short range correlations are not taken into account, but too large when these correlations are simulated by the simple extraction of the contact terms from the resulting nucleon-nucleon interaction. We study the noncommutative generalization of (Euclidean) integrable models in two dimensions, specifically the sine- and sinh-Gordon and the U(N) principal chiral models. By looking at tree-level amplitudes for the sinh-Gordon model we show that its naive noncommutative generalization is not integrable. on the other hand, the addition of extra constraints, obtained through the generalization of the zero-curvature method, renders the model integrable. We construct explicit nonlocal nontrivial conserved charges for the U(N) principal chiral model using the Brezin-Itzykson-Zinn-Justin-Zuber method. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The WW gamma triple gauge boson coupling parameters are studied using p (p) over bar -> l nu gamma + X(l = e, mu) events at root s = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected with the D0 detector from an integrated luminosity of 162 pb(-1) delivered by the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The cross section times branching fraction for p (p) over bar -> W(gamma) + X -> l nu gamma + X with E-T(gamma) > 8 GeV and Delta R-l gamma > 0.7 is 14.8 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 1.0(syst) +/- 1.0(lum) pb. The one-dimensional 95% confidence level limits on anomalous couplings are -0.88 < Delta kappa(gamma) < 0.96 and -0.20 < lambda(gamma) < 0.20.

We consider a one-dimensional mean-field-hydrodynamic model of a two-component degenerate Fermi gas in an external trap, each component representing a spin state of the same atom. We demonstrate that the interconversion between them (linear coupling), imposed by a resonant electromagnetic wave, transforms the immiscible binary gas into a miscible state, if the coupling constant, kappa, exceeds a critical value, kappa(cr). The effect is predicted in a variational approximation, and confirmed by numerical solutions. Unlike the recently studied model of a binary Bose-Einsten condensate with the linear coupling, the components in the immiscible phase of the binary fermion mixture never fill two separated domains with a wall between them, but rather form antilocked (pi-phase-shifted) density waves. Another difference from the bosonic mixture is spontaneous breaking of symmetry between the two components in terms of the numbers of atoms in them, N(1) and N(2). The latter effect is characterized by the parameter nu equivalent to(N(1)-N(2))/(N(1)+N(2)) (only N(1)+N(2) is a conserved quantity), the onset of miscibility at kappa >=kappa(cr) meaning a transition to nu equivalent to 0. At kappa
